Why Epic Universe's Universal Monsters is ALREADY Going Wrong

  • I got some... criticisms... of Universal's handing of the classic monsters and what they already appear to have planned for them in the upcoming Epic Universe theme park. As well as some complaints about theme parks and theme park fandom in general. Old man yells at clouds.

      There are only so many styles of theme park rides and attractions you can do. Disney has been in theme parks for 65 years or so. They've had a lot of time to figure out what is actually possible, and virtually everything slots into a category they've already pioneered and/or perfected.
      But my argument was less about Universal "copying" Disney as it was about Universal AT LEAST getting to where Disney already is. Mainly, pacing out a day with an engaging variety of diverse experiences. I would be happy for Universal to invent some completely new style of attractions that has never ever been done before... But if it is just another thrill ride to make me throw up, then it's just another thrill ride and doesn't fit the theme of the Universal Monsters.

    I want 100% agree with your point. My problem that I had when Universal for the longest time is how they've completely ignored the universal classic monsters for decades. It always boggled my mind growing up having to go to the original Orlando Park seeing there was no Universal monster themed attractions but only a restaurant and I guess The mummy returns but that's from movie franchise that is kind of obsolete at this point. Universal has been very neglectful with the universal monsters and has not given them a proper home in the parks. Now don't get me wrong I am glad that they're finally capitalizing on the monsters by giving them their own land but I get where you're going when you said that Universal are only using them as just another IP attraction that the general public will probably soon forget. But in my opinion only time can tell.

    • @Rachel-xu4br
      @Rachel-xu4br Год назад +2

      They also have the Horror Make Up Show which is still in operation today. It's for the most part remains the same as it did on opening. ET and this attraction are the only original attractions that remain. Only thing that has changed is certain IPs they have chosen to discuss and other information about special effects as technology progressed over the years. A lot of props from famous Universal and Horror films are in display in the lobby prior to the show. I wish they have something similar at EPIC Universe, but I don't think that's the case, but that's fine, as long as the Horror Make Up Show remains. It's my favorite show (past and present). They no longer have the Monsters Cafe (which is a bummer) and are replacing it with a Minions one, but that's probably because of the restaurant that they're opening at EPIC.

  • @jimmyboy131
    @jimmyboy131 4 месяца назад

    I really like your ideas for a classic, gothic Universal monsters theme park. I'd put that near the top of my list of places to visit, if such a thing existed. I prefer the slower type of attraction, where you can let yourself soak it all in and really enjoy it.
    But it's art, and as we know, are it subjective. Some people only get excited by the fast and exciting rides, and there's no problem with that. This is why there should be competition, so each competitor can cater to the demographic they can appeal to the most.
    By the way, I like your description of how Disney is more varied in its presentations. I hadn't thought of it that way before, but each time I've visited Disney Land (California) I was always impressed with how well run it is and how clean and smart it is. Now that I think about it, its variety is part of how smartly it's laid out. Last time I was there was about a dozen years ago but to me they were (are?) the standard on how you build and run a theme park. I've visited other really nice theme parks and each time I would think, "this is nice, I like this...but it's not quite Disney."

      Every single theme park has shopping, yes. But Universal was unique in Harry Potter being a themed shopping experience.
      For example, My favourite land in any theme park in the world is Mysterious Island at Tokyo DisneySea. It has my two favourite attractions anywhere in the world: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Journey to the Center of the Earth. It also has one counter service and one cafeteria. And it has ONE shop, in ONE building that occupies a remarkably small footprint. The rest of the land is devoted entirely to rides and theming. In the massive lagoon there is a full scale model of the Nautilus, just cuz.
      That is a far different experience from Wizarding World, which is literally one ride at the end of a mall with dozens of stores.

He posted something about Pandora, so I joked about when we can hope to see Mysterious Island imported (the port in Tokyo DisneySea based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), since it also features the theme of exploration and discovery of fantasy creatures. He then ripped into me that the choice of Avatar wasn't just about it being a movie, but because of its environmental themes. I retorted that Avatar is weirdly anti-nature: an entirely CGI film that conceives of nature as a giant fibre-optic computer network with integrated USB sticks. It's nature conceived by people who sit on computers all day. Good debate XD
