Fun fact about Ludwig‘s sword: It’s called the Holy Moonlight Sword. It first appeared in 1994’s King’s Field and has since appeared in every FromSoftware game except Sekiro, including Elden Ring, where it is now most commonly known as the Moonlight Greatsword.

The somewhat hilarious part about Ludwig is that he is the "first" boss of the DLC- The Old Hunters, and he is sort of the easiest one.
Ludwig was basically a legendary knight that tried to fight the spreading corruption in the Bloodborne world, but became corrupted himself by the Blood and transformed into a beast, becoming unworthy of the Great Moonlight Sword in his mind.
However, during the course of the fight, we remind him of his life as a knight and discovers that the Moonlight sword never left him and he regains some of his humanity.

    • @undertonetm7692
      @undertonetm7692 Год назад +53

@@NightsKing I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, the reason of Ludwigs madness and transformation was not because of the Sword but it was due to the curse placed by the dying eldritch mother named Kos. That is why there is the "orphan of Kos", because Ludwig was part of the group of hunters that slayed Mother Kos, who was then pregnant at that time. Ludwig says that the sword is his "guiding moonlight", so my best interpretation of it is that it is another eldritch being that is helping Ludwig kill off other eldrich beings, by gifting him a blade that is what we know the "Moonlight Greatsword".

    • @gatecruor9292

@@undertonetm7692 Ludwig led the group that killed Mother Kos. He was the leader at the time of the church hunters in that era. He was driven mad by the old blood in the nightmare that all the hunters were suffering from with the use of blood. Much like the hunter we play as who also heals off of blood. I do believe the blood we use is a more purified and less corrupting version though...that or we just never really used it as much in lore. As for the Holy moonlight sword Im pretty sure it was made by the old gods and gifted to him when he became leader and it was just a really really powerful sword of Alien tech.

  • @jesussantos7380
    @jesussantos7380 Год назад +356

Ludwig is one of the greatest hunters of Bloodborne and the closest thing to one of the heroes in the story. His appearance in the game's DLC was a surprise since he has become one of the most horrid beasts due to the curse that afflicts many people in Bloodborne's world. When we find him in the Hunter's Nightmare, he has fused with his horse in his beast form and has been slaughtering other hunters for eternity within this realm.
He was known as the Holy Blade, being one of the first Church Hunters and wielding a sword that he claimed spoke to him. This blade is the one that appears in the 2nd phase. Not spoiling the lore behind the curse or his sword, but Ludwig regained his sanity in the 2nd phase because of the player. He was living in the mentality of a beast for all eternity until he faced someone strong enough to force his consciousness to fight like a warrior again, and he could finally hear the blade speak to him once more.
Once he receives the blade, it transforms and he stays upright for the rest of the battle. He loses his beast status for weaknesses and weapons and fights like the humanoid bosses. Killing him starts out as a duty of the hunters and then becomes a duel between the old greats and the new greats. It's one of the best experiences in gaming. You can even talk to him after the fight and receive his sword.
Also, the ghosts are other players who are fighting Ludwig in their world, not the player's. The little guys offering stuff are Messengers. In all Soulsborne games, they have small notes written on the ground that you can read written by the characters or other players online. In this game, Messengers hold it up for you to read, which is the last thing the player did before the video ended.
EDIT: I saw another comment mention this and I think it's a great idea. If you ever react to a single boss again, you should watch the corresponding lore video by Vaati or another lore RUclipsr. That's usually what most players do after they beat the game anyway, so it's actually pretty much as if you played the game in terms of understanding the story.

Ludwig was a very interesting fight for me. He was the only boss in the game that REALLY kicked my teeth in.
His first phase would always throw me for a loop because of his design. He's some giant horse abomination so it's fairly difficult to try and predict what kind of moveset he'll have. His speed almost completely contradicts his design.
Ironically, that makes his second phase easier because he gains a sword. Swords are pretty linear weapons. You either swing or you lunge; added with a little bit of magic for some flavor.
(Also, those ghosts you see in the arena are OTHER people doing their own boss fight and going about in their own world.)

The game initially plays out as a classic gothic horror where you hunt werewolves and whatnot in fantasy London. As the game progresses you begin to quickly realize that reality is not as it seems, and the game we might think is similar to Castlevania is instead much closer to the kind of cosmic horror you often see in Stephen King stories. The rich mystery of it all is really cool too, and the true ending could not be more fitting and awesome.

Ludwig, like just about any From Software character, is beautiful in his tragedy. Obviously not beautiful physically, but the story of his fall from grace. While there are plenty of gray areas for you to fill in as your imagination desires (as per usual with FromSoft lore), a good chunk of it is told just in the environmental storytelling that is the boss fight itself! The random soul begging to be saved from Ludwig, the bestial, feral state he begins the fight in, the return to at least a semblance of the noble Healing Church Hunter he used to be - it gives you so much insight into who he was and what he's become with little extra context outside of the cutscene between phases. To this day, my second favorite fight in all of Bloodborne, and definitely up there with the all-time greats in From Software fights!

Friends you may not have noticed, but in this fight you managed to synchronize Ludwig's movements and cinematics perfectly with the music, it was something really sublime, excellent for your first attempt. The music synchronized so perfectly with the fight (3:43) that if you have the file of the fight without the reaction I recommend that you upload it separately to RUclips, the soundtrack of this fight is masterful, (4:58) but the music does not always synchronize good to start the fight with Ludwig, but you managed to synchronize it even with his attacks, damn it was great (5:34) Maybe it was just coincidence or luck, but if you see other players doing this same fight you will see what I mean, you achieved what no one could, synchronize the entire fight with Ludwig from the cinematics to the attacks perfectly with the music, I appreciate it. I repeat, if you have the video of the fight without the reaction, I recommend uploading it separately to RUclips, you achieved something incredible.

Bloodborne's DLC bosses are really some of the best From Software put out. If you want some really elaborate boss fight scenes, you can watch Sekiro's, at least the ones done by good players. Some of the recordings for the final boss of Sekiro done by talented players make the whole thing something out of an anime, I kid you not.

So this fight happens in the Old Hunters DLC for Bloodborne which is a sort of end game extra content to the game for people wanting more fights, more adventure, and more lore. It takes place in the Hunter's Nightmare. A sort of planar realm where hunters are cursed to dwell if they go drunk with blood thirst. Ludwig the Holy Blade was a prominent figure of the Healing Church that used the practices of blood transfusion under the guise of treatment for ailments, but actually performed them for experimentation for ascension with the blood of an otherworldly Great One (sorta lovecraftian godly sort of the cosmos and higher dimension). Ultimately the hunters of old killed a Great One and were cursed from it as a punishment and manifested this realm of cursed existence to be trapped in. In the base game we won't know of this fate to them, nor the true horrors of their experiments.

The Moonlight Blade is an ancient powerful artifact that seems to have influence on its wielder hence Ludwig referring to it as a mentor and a guide. Neither Ludwig or the Sword are evil though, in fact its the Sword that brings back clarity and pulls Ludwig out of his beast like frenzy and mindless state back into his old conscious self.

Ludwig The Accursed/The Holy Blade is for my personal taste a Medium Difficulty Boss !!! The 1st phase is quit harder than the 2nd phase with The Holy Moonlight Sword !!! Ludwig could be a nightmare for Players that have a bad build and/or simply underleveled !!! Ludwig is literally the standard barrier for all Players that wanna find out if they got this Bloodborne Game together !!! Now i can say with the experience that i have now in Bloodborne i can take down Ludwig 1st Try but don't push me into a rush of making it happen 🤣🤣😉😉🙌🙌

I beat Ludwig on my second attempt, but I was really over level like around Lv. 160, using fire paper and maxed out Hunter Ax with gems to make it over 500 ATK, so I cut through him like butter. (Non-NG±)
So, not really a normal experience players have with Ludwig from what I've seen. Lol

Team Four Star played Bloodborne, and the DLC, and they had a hellishly difficult time fighting Ludwig. Worse, they drank a shot every time they died. Against Ludwig, they ended up getting HAMMERED, both by Ludwig and by the alcohol they downed every time they got taken down.
In the end, it was Lanipator that defeated Ludwig, after drinking, if I'm remembering correctly, bourbon (which he does not like, to put it mildly). It was a sight to behold, as they had endured, and drank, so much already, and he managed to do much better when he was noticeably drunker than the rest of the team (they'd trade who was playing each time they died). He channeled the power of Dumplestiltskin, barely got hit, and he took down Ludwig with a copy of Ludwig's own sword, all while drunk on a few beers and a good swig or so of bourbon.

Oh man, Ludwig is creepy as hell, but a super fun fight. Wonderful you did this, hope to see more SoulsBorne boss battle reactions from you in the future. I will second another suggestion I've seen, that if you do do more of these boss battles, it might be prudent/interesting to watch a lore video about that boss at the same time, just so you guys have more of the context and it's not just a battle. Battles are cool, but I know you guys(Bethany especially) are all about the story and having a reason to care about what you're seeing. Oh yeah, the "ghosts" you were seeing, those were other players fighting their fight, that was part of the online component. Cheers!!!

Ludwig definitely is on another level when it comes to bosses. Not the hardest imo in the Bloodborne DLC (I beat him on my 7th attempt personally) but definitely up there. Thing is, he's part of the DLC and at that point you've already sunk a few dozen hours into the game generally ^^ Personally I played the DLC when I was pretty much almost done with the mainline story except for the final fights, so I was appropriately leveled for the area and didn't find it as oppressive as someone who may enter the DLC way earlier in their playthrough
For me personally Lady Maria is my favorite Bloodborne fight, as she's a human hunter like you, and the fight is almost like a "dance" as it were. (Though she can be cheesed... but what's the fun in that haha). The hardest boss for me in Bloodborne is a toss up between two DLC bosses, The Orphan of Kos and Laurence, the First Vicar (tho I think Laurence is a less interesting one due to its visual design being basically the same as one of the earliest BB bosses).
If you want to react to more, I can highly recommend at least Lady Maria and Orphan of Kos. They're excellent fights and show the game at its best, like Ludwig has done so as well.

My first time fighting Ludwig only took me like 7 tries, but I was playing with friends and doing summons. My first time doing solo was probably around 40-50 attempts, I honestly lost count. My no level up run only took me 23 attempts, but at that time, I had sunk like 1000 hours into bloodborne and fought Ludwig many times, so I was used to the fight.

It's kind of a theme with a lot of From Software stuff where some corrupted creatures use to be a noble hero or king at some point. You kind of see that idea all the way back to Armored Core 1 if you think about it. But yeah, getting hit for 1/4 your health is pretty common in Souls-likes. In From Software's case Miyasaki said that was pretty much a narrative choice. You're a squishy human, not Goku. A giant dog man hitting you with a giant glowing sword would hurt. As a character, your super power is returning from death, not being a tank.

Just so you know, Ludwig the Accursed counts as a "Beast", which means weapons that bleed are effective against him. But when he becomes Ludwig the Holy Blade, they stopped being effective.
Yes, even the game acknowledges that Ludwig is no longer a beast at that point.

I want it now. Plz react to Maxor's Bloodborne video. You will not regret it. But if you want actual in depth lore, there are many who have done videos dedicated to Bloodborne's lore as a whole. Aegon of Astora, VaatiVidya, and The brother's code all do good work, but Aegon goes above and beyond with his videos. This game has such an amazing community.

Yep, 60 deaths sounds about right in my case. I love Ludwig, but his 1st phase is a wall for me in every playthrough. 2nd phase is so much easier if you "go for the butt". Ludwig goes to Gryffindor? Yeah, I can see it.

I don't think Ludwig has the same impact if you don't know the game/story.
From a cinematic standpoint i would say that Orphan of Kos or Lady Maria are better ? Maybe even Vicar Amelia ?
Frankly the player wasn't a good one (that hp bar) but i guess if he was there wouldn't be much to react to.

The Old Hunters DLC for Bloodborne is one of the best DLC's Fromsoft has ever made. Without going into all the mental loops in how it work lorewise it takes place in the Hunter's Nightmare. The Nightmares, which there are three in the game (four if you count the Hunter's Dream), are other realms that are created by different humans or beings for a specific purpose.
In the case the Hunter's Nightmare it's a realm created to punish Hunters that have gone mad with bloodlust in general but specifically for those who preformed a horrible deed against a God, for lack of a better term.
The thing that makes the Old Hunters DLC really fascinating is that almost all the bosses in it are lore characters that had major impact in the current state of the world. All of them are mentioned regularly in the base game and most of them have weapons or organizations named after them.
Ludwig is the first boss you encounter in the DLC and it's shocking to see this great figure in such a state. It perfectly sets the tone for it and what you're in for. After all you're told after the, likely, first boss in the game:
"Ludwig was the first of many Healing Church Hunters to come, many of whom were Clerics. As it was, Clerics transformed into the most hideous of Beasts"

It definitely took me 20 plus times to beat Ludwig. The accursed form was so unpredictable and my reaction time is garbage. I kind of go into every boss fight knowing I'm going to be there for a while, while I learn the attacks.
Oddly enough, I had no problems with him in his second phase, because it's just a dude swinging a sword with, very few tricks or gimmicks to him. Once I was was able to get him to the second phase consistently, he became a cakewalk to me.

(Yet another) fun fact about this fight: Serrated weapons, which do extra damage against beasts, stop being effective during the second phase, reinforcing Ludwig's transition from mindless beast to the shadow of a formerly holy knight. He even covers the deformed half of his face with the blade during the cutscene.
