I watch this video once every couple of weeks. The Octonaut/Snow Day Delay Jam is hands down one of the best things that JHS has put out for us to witness. Thanks.
I am 100% in favour of Joshua as the voice of jams, reading poetry and freestyling tributes to Robert Keeley. I would go and see this band for sure. I'm very happy with the show's continuing descent into freestyle improv surrealism. It's gone from a thing I enjoy every week to a real highlight. Keep it up.
Totally agree, the show has now evolved into a freeform creative vehicle for everyone, with great pedal showcases, the regular features and the new ideas like the poetry jams. Who knows where it might go?
Nick’s fill at 28:30 was so slick. I had to rewind that several times. I have to assume that if everyone hadn’t muted their mics we would have heard everyone in the room saying “ohhhhhhhh!” At that moment.
RECORD TIME SUGGESTION: HUM’s “You’d Prefer An Astronaut” Please check it out if you haven’t. This album takes “shoegaze” and smashes it with walls of trippy driven guitars, backed by unique, jaw dropping, drums. It a perfect use of the “shades of colors” sound, and “beautiful quiet to heavy” formula. It blows me away, thinking that, after 20 something years of listening to this album, Im still hearing these new little sound and textures. To this day, they’re still so influential to me and countless others..
Dang, that sounds epic. Thanks for the suggestion, internet stranger. I look forward to picking up a copy and giving it a spin this weekend in your honor.
Josh is totally the right age to be a Hum fan. Great band. I was once playing a gig about a half of a block away from Hum’s gig, when they were releasing the album after this. Yeah, my show was terrible …
The Aquabats jam might be my favorite so far. And I’m so happy that Joshua is part of the jams recently. He is the Jim Morrison or Jack Kerouac voice the jams have been missing. Don’t stop! And Josh, I appreciate his pen and pencil choices. Not everyone can be a Smokejumper P.S. The show just keeps getting better and better. I rarely get to catch it live, but watching it is the first thing I do when I get home from work every Wednesday. Thanks to all of you, I look forward to it every week. Well done, good people!
Love the poetry readings Joshua!!! And I care about your pencils/pens... I'm a bit obsessed too. These poetry reading jams remind me so much of the Jim Morrison/Doors "An American Prayer" (listen to "Ghost Song" if you like this sort of stuff). Jim's poetry is awesome. THANKS JOSHUA!!!
@@jhspedals Yes! Sakura Pigma Micron 03 I have tons of them in different thicknesses and a few colors. Great fine-tip ink pens for writing or doodling! And yes, please do tell big Josh. Btw, favorite pencil for writing music... the Berol Electronic Scorer 350 Professor in music school made us write our scores with them... super soft and dark; you'll never write with a No. 2 again. OK I'm just as weird as you lol
FUN FACT! In the late 90s, I saw the Aquabats open for Primus and Blink 182 in Rochester NY. It was billed as the Sno-Core Tour. This was the tour where a young Travis Barker gave up his superhero costume and joined Blink 182 right after this tour. I highly recommend you listen to the classic "Cat w Two Heads" when the Aqubats we're still ska.
I can appreciate that Josh had to take the time out to rant about branding, he's absolutely right. You don't even have to have a good product as long as you can build a brand. Make or break kind of stuff right there. Also, mad props to Nick on that Fresh Clips ad, probably the most badass video I've seen in a while. Also, since I'm pretty sure Joshua is the one who reads the comments, DOOM METAL and I appreciate your appreciation for great writing utensils. I personally use Pigma Microns because I'm cheap and sometimes I like to pretend like I'm an illustrator. Keep up the great work amigo!
I swear to GOD! This is the best episode of the JHS show. Put it in the archive. The Jamz, The memeable faces, the glitches, the pedals, the best. You guys have been good from the start, and hovering around great for a long whlie, but this episode was great. Like, within the context of human history great. Josh^2 is gonna need some vocal effects to help him cut a bit with the poetry... which is an issue I'd contemplated at great length, but couldn't find a solution to: JHS band needed vocals. Couldn't figure it out... and now organically? Can it be? You've figured it out? Anyway, the second Josh needs some filtering, and drive on his voice to find his niche in the mix. Maybe something to give him some space. I'm sure y'all will figure it out. God Bless!
I actually really liked the way it was in the mix, not drowned out but also not right up front and present. Gave a cool vibe, reminded me of a scene in the Doors movie
I‘ve only arrived at the first jam and I had to listen/watch twice! So so beautiful. Very La Dispute-esque! Might listen a third time. My mind is blown away!
I love your shows and everyone who is involved!!! Thanks for all of your hard work and tomfoolery, it really makes you so much better than the rest! Can’t wait to start my own JHS collection, cheers all!!!
10:25 - 13:30 This is one of the main reasons I’m such a big fan of JHS. You guys have incredible chemistry with one another, both socially and musically. The pedals you make are amazing and I love how passionate you all are about the work of other pedal makers as well! Your passion is contagious!
The JHS show has been helping me get through some rough nights lately. I bought the Pulp n' Peel which is supposed to come tomorrow and I can't wait! KC pride, yo.
Bought a jhs reverb pedal not too long ago and I love it, the pre delay is super nice. Just found the channel and I love it too lol. Keep up the great work guys
The song played for the Aquabats pedal was appropriate. Their sound tends to be a magical blend of new wave, surf, and ska and that detective jam was perfect for it. Also, I think the pedals have just started being shipped out. They took preorders and I just recently got notification that mine has shipped.
I'm floored that Josh is not aware of the myriad of Boss Slow Gear copies. I bought my OG Slow Gear in OKC in the mid-90's. Since then I've had Gauyatone, Pigtronix and Mooer copies (to name a few). **Special note:: The Pigtronix version (the Philosopher King) includes a compressor and outputs CV values, even when bypassed....great for CV controlled filter pedals. Melekko also make a great volume swell/ADSR pedal.
All the jams were very cool , great pedals that first jam reminded me of something one might hear as a soundtrack for a scary movie .......rocking it !
I was absolutely rocking out to this episode... SICK JAMS/Poetry guys! Maybe it's the pedals or maybe this is evidence that Addison final listened to OK Computer.
Also, Muji.38mm pens are my standard--haven't found a .28 that isn't scratchy and miserable. Finally--please release the Robert anthem as a single, because I need a soundtrack to hype up the hard days!
So great !you know it would be nice that poetry gets really included in your jams ( i mean soundwise) and that there could be a second Line mic with vocal fx pedal for Joshua ! Thanks for the good time !
The absolute best thing about mowing lawns is Listening to music....my intro to the pink Floyd album animals...I was mowing my then mother inlaw's property....also back then 1988 we had Walkman's sooooo I put in pink Floyd animals on cassette....I instantly became a fan. It was the summer of animals as I call it..
Loved that Jamtopus.......You've really got something there with the poetry reading. If you work on tone, word phrasing, tactical pauses, etc. that will be ridiculously over the top good.
Joshua’s writing instruments are part of the show. Many of us are into fine pens and pencils and it is good to know what the intellectual member of the team is currently enjoying.
Ok, as far as I’m aware, you guys have inadvertently created a new genre : random jams with loud angry poetry. I can’t think of a snazzy name to accompany it but please keep doing it because I’m here for it (I’m well aware that this genre probably already exists…)
5:11 I care about mechanical pencils. Thank you Joshua. I come for the pedals, but stay for the pencils. Who wants to rotate the whole pencil and have the clip resting against your hand. That's just not comfortable. I appreciate that you appreciate 0.5 mm pencils.
Great episode guys (as usual). I do have a question about the Love-Vongon Onset auto swell (which did sound great). You guys acted as if this was something completely new. But we have a bunch of auto-swell pedals that cost way less than the $299 that this one lists for. Is this one so much better? How?
When turtles go down... guy ah ... that was the best jam yet! Those boxes are like baseball cards... won't be able to give those away in 20 yrs... I think you have accomplished your goal... wtf is not a clone lol... Eventually I'll get a pulp and p and a color box... I love your channel! You need bass switches on all your boxes... make all the Tim escobedo pedals and have a show about them... your show kicks ass!
In 1969, I bought a used Silvertome Twin Twelve (1484) for $50. I loved that amp and rode it hard right up to 1990. Wish I still had it. I'm assuming you've had a good experience with one as well, as you dedicated a pedal to it... The "Twin Twelve" V1 and V2. Any plans for a V3 or a reissue?
Could you please do a documentary on the Rockman tone chase sort of like your Klon video? People are coming around again looking for this sound. I think it would be a hit! Thanks.
Went to go get the Meadowsweet soon as I heard your jam and now it’s sold out :) Good job guys! Love to see some success and it’s a great pedal. I guess I’ll have to wait and get the new Maestro chorus for now 🤘

You guys are a legitimately good rock band. These last few episodes have had some seriously great jams.
Greetings from the furure...loving these tones and riffs.
Ok, Joshua definitely needs some vocal pedal effects for his poetry. He’s earned them!

Great episode. The poetry is the cherry on top that this hot fudge brownie sundae didn't know it needed... Great pedals, stellar jams.

This episode was a lot of unnecessary bs. I don’t need expensive pens or poetry read to me nor do I need to watch you eat.
