The storytelling of leap slowly going insane has to be my favorite parts of these videos
They kind of break me a little more every time.
The tractor harvest noise healed something deep inside me. Thanks Leapalot.
Boop bloop boop
-"Hi Lewis! What are you doing?"
-"Building a freight railroad. The farmer has something to sell..."
“My entire life was a lie! I was cheating!” 100% thought you were gonna say “fortunately there’s a cheat to fix that.”
This reminds me of my first farm.
"Cool! A coffee bean!" *plants it*
"WHOA! MORE COFFEE BEANS!" *plants all of them*
Yeah, that wasn't fun watering them all by hand. I literally just stopped watering them, only letting them grow by the rain.
Spring 28, and I was so excited that they'd all be gone tomorrow!!.......
"But Andi, why were you still still watering by hand in year 2?" Yeah, first play through. I knew nothing of the beauty of sprinklers... 🤦🏻♀️😅
when you say least favourite grandchild, I wonder what peepaw's other grandkids are up to while you're thousands of beans deep all summer... (Java is an adorable cat name!)
Probably growing tea leaves like the vermin they are! 😤
@@Leapalot wait aren't you his only grandchild?
@@1th_to_comment. I dunno, probably. It's hard to keep up with the Leapalore sometimes.
@@1th_to_comment. i think the grandpa impilies that the player ARE his special grandson/granddaughter, that implies there are grandpa's not so special grandson/granddaugher out there somewhere 😂😭
@@1th_to_comment. That the law knows about. Look at that jaunty mustache, Gramps got some. Gramps got lots. Look at what's left of his bed!
I don’t plant coffee for profit, but this video kind of touches on why I eventually stop growing them for brewing coffee in kegs-it’s just more time and cost efficient to buy coffee from Gus and make it into Triple Shot Espresso at home.
Your creative mind knows no bounds, Leap, and I’m always here for it. I hope you feel better now that this painful challenge is over. ❤
Yeah, growing coffee for me is pretty much only an aesthetic. I’ve got a potted coffee plant next to a keg in my kitchen. I’ve got a chest next to the keg so I can use my Automate mod but even then, I have to have two more coffee plants in the cellar because, for some reason, the five beans all have to be the same quality to make the coffee 😑.
I end up buying from Gus too, even if my aesthetic says otherwise lol
(In case you’re curious, I use Mr. Qi’s water retaining fertilizer so I don’t have to water them, but even then I wouldn’t suggest wasting kegs on a for-profit coffee operation)
@@MajiggerRose - Full agree. I’ve never kegged coffee to make a profit, only to have access to lots of coffees for free when money is tight. The obvious downside being you need a lot of kegs and many in-game hours to generate all of coffees. It works in the early game when you’re desperate to move faster, but once you have spare money, it’s just easier to buy from Gus
here i was like an IMBECILE thinking this would be a fun quirky challenge teehee my god this actually looks like agony😭 thank you for your sacrifice leap
Ha ha ha ha... It sucked. 😅
Good thing you didn’t actually have to brew the coffee.
You had 62413 beans at the end. This would make 12,482 cups of coffee.
Since each sells for 150 it would get you 1,872,300g with three beans leftover to sell for an extra 45g.
But even if grandpa left you 100 kegs that would take you approximately 125 in game hours to brew them all.
You might have been his least favorite grandchild but he didn’t hate you.
Great video Leapalot!
Totally not worth it just to double my income. Thanks grandpa! 😅
I usually save my coffee plantation until the I get some Junimos to harvest for me. They're adorable little workers, I don't even mind giving them rainy days off.
Yes! This set up would be amazing with junimos! Add in some automated kegs and you're off to the races!
Thank you for this idea!
LOL. I actually DID try this at home, on a vanilla farm. I was allowed to go to the mines because I was starting from scratch. Even with the best sprinklers and tools, it quickly became impossible to just even harvest the entire crop. It was insane, but sort of stupidly fun. I cheered whenever crows got a plant, because it was that many fewer I had to plant and harvest.
Coffee bean was my first greenhouse crop. I love how it multiplies itself without seedmaking. And I turned it to coffee to multiply the profit by 5. The coffee also seemed useful for Skull Cavern but I really did not go there much! And I gradually let an ancient seed crop replace them... Until Spoiler Island in 1.5 let me lay out a new coffee and ancient fruit supply for maximum everythung
Coffee is so helpful for Skull Cavern! That and some spicy eel is just... 🧑🍳💋
The harvest with the tractor was so satisfying to watch
I love the little noises too!
@@Leapalot I was actually wondering if the coffee bean noises got on your nerves at some point!
thank you for resolving my relentless stardew curiosity
Any time! I hope you had fun!
I'm using the Four Corners Farm. I may do this with one corner of the farm, with sheds for the kegs...
You would also have the small quarr area to use as well!
Don't you DARE touch a whisker on Java, Leap! 😸
I should have just turned Marnie down!
This is why I leave a two-tile wide path everywhere.
My first immediate thought upon seeing this video: “given the logic of the wheat and chessboard problem, this will branch into insanity in a matter of weeks.”
Not exactly a 1 for 1 comparison, but the insanity and begging for mercy that ensues is definitely a match lolol
That's pretty spot on! It started out so simple, and I knew it would get bad but... Yikes.
The wheat and chessboard problem?
@@WitchyGeek It's a common math problem used when teaching exponents - I've also seen it referred to the rice and chessboard problem, and sometimes grain or oats, but it's the same premise.
Basically how it goes (or at least the iteration I've seen most often both as a student and a teacher) is, some king or ruler or higher ranking official is so impressed with the game of chess, they search far and wide for the person who created the game. They tell them "I want to reward you for your efforts, just tell me what you would like and I will make it happen." The creator, being some sort of sadist presumably, tells them "I would like wheat to feed my family. The first day place 1 grain on the first square of the chessboard, and I will take it home to feed my family. The next day place two grains on the next square, then four on the third day. Double the number of grains of wheat you give me each day until you've placed wheat on every square on the chessboard." The king agrees, assuming it's a paltry reward at best.
Of course, mathematically speaking this is essentially squaring the number of grains each day, and much like what happened in the video, that number can get very big, very fast. I believe in the original equation you end up in the ballpark of 1.2 quadrillion kilograms of wheat, which is basically an insurmountable number of grains. There is a slight difference since the exponential growth is performed in waves each day rather than all at once each day, but the premise is still there
(sort of as a fun side note, I've also seen this used as sort of a fable for thinking through your decisions, with the king being displayed as rash and the creator living in an impoverished community directly impacted by the king's rule, who does this to trick the king into directly supporting their community while also teaching a lesson, etc etc. It ends with the king begging for mercy at like the 35th day. But I think the only time I've seen it was in a contextual story in some sort of standardized test I took back in school, so that's probably a lot less common than the math problem itself lolol)
I've often considered eschewing the CC and JJ routes and just going full themed farming, even monocropping.
Leapalot, you may have saved a life today.
Picturing Leap with his trashcan hat sitting in the mental ward rocking back and forth in his straitjacket muttering over and over "no coffee no coffee no coffee...".
No more beans. Please!
This isn't a gameplay challenge. You have the best tools in the game, you don't really need anything, and it's a very simple gameplay loop. It is, however, a mental challenge. And that's what makes this fun to watch >:)
I'm doing something similar. 4 corners farm, only leaving the farm on the last day of the season and festival days, starting with nothing, called anxiety farm because poor Ana has severe anxiety. Currently on fall 14 year one, had to pause because I'm starting to get carpal tunnel. don't have an end goal, really.
Good luck!
He's gonna have to leap a lot if he wants to get that coffee planted and harvested before 2 AM.
Downvoted* for not using the farming space on Ginger Island and the greenhouse.
*Obviously I didn't mean that.
Grandpa was a little stingy with the warp totems toward the end.... 😅
This is a challenge where the hilltop farm becomes very necessary.
Having ore would have been so nice! But I would have lost a ton of growing space.
Great storytelling and video! I'm sure if you were nicer to your grandfather while he was alive he would have left you an upgraded farmhouse with a kitchen and definitely a tractor!
A lesson for next time! Wait..
This is my favorite video you’ve ever made, it’s so good
Wow! Thanks so much! 😁
Right now I'm working on building up a supply of coffee beans so next year I can have them allllll over my farm!
Good luck! 😅
Presuming you kegged those beans- iirc you can't mix beans of different qualities to make coffee, so the gold beans would produce 623 cups of coffee (with 2 beans left over), the silver beans would produce 987 cups of coffee (with 0 beans left over), and the regular beans would produce 10,872 cups of coffee (with 2 beans left over). This would produce a total of 12,482 cups of coffee, which could be sold for 1,872,300 gold.
Now, you could also make those 10,872 cups of coffee into 3624 cups of triple espresso. This would sell for 1,630,800 gold, so... Actually less than the regular coffee, which is neat.
Anyway, you could also get 44 gold for the left over gold quality beans and 30 for the leftover regular beans. So Leapalot could theoretically have made 899,540 more gold than he did just by selling the beans.
Y'know, if he wanted to go MORE insane.
Less than double my money for that much extra work.... 😅
I always love coffee. But Grandpa should have left you a shed full of kegs so you could turn the beans into drinkable coffee and maybe a kitchen and the Triple Shot Espresso recipe. That's where the money is. There were so many beans 😵💫
It was outrageous. If I had a kitchen, about 10,000 kegs, and that recipe I would have been rolling in it!
@@Leapalot true! And...take 2?
@@Leapalot If harvesting a thousand coffee beans every day drove you to despair, when constantly refilling kegs with new beans every hour or so like whack-a-mole would have made you put your monitor through your face.
@@andrewklang809 "Automate" For the win
This video remided me of my coffee farm on one of my savefiles.... I was doing this for funs but it was also such a pain. I've stopped plaing on that save before the fall came in lol.
I should have done that....
Leapalot may have lost himself to madness, but at least he has BEAN

My dude recreated Panama in Stardew Valley
Omg my grandpa was Peepa. I’ve never heard any real person use that name for their grandfather. A+ before even watching the rest of the video
lol an coffe addict would had a field day on that farm.
hmm how about a full years (well almost full year) harvest of tea leaves?
coffee trauma unlocked. glad you allowed yourself to cheat - I heard carpal tunnel knocking on the door seeing all those fields. x)
This was entertaining on a truly insane level. I loved it. 🤣♥️
Now you gotta do the same thing but process the coffee
You spend spring and summer going insane planting and harvesting coffee beans. Then you're supposed to spend the rest of the year going insane kegging them all to make coffee. Double your moderate profits for 10x the work! (No further profit is gained by turning coffee into Triple Shot Espresso.)
Totally worth it!
Its called emergency cheating! Perfectly legal
i already know the answer as someone with fields of coffee (but I put them in kegs so... much more than you made)
Grandpa didn't leave me any kegs! 😔
So, I did this challenge, but without any mods. I survived, but barely.
Instead of giving yourself infinite stamina you could of instead had another person join because "peepaw" only said you can't leave the farm.
A bit of an aside, but your graphics card isn't particularly relevant to how well stardew valley performs, that has a lot more to do with your CPU. Graphics cards deal with rendering graphics in this context, which isn't difficult for it to do. The CPU has to track and process game logic for every bean on the ground individually which is why it slowed down. I don't imagine that would be much different compared to if you had a 4090 or a modern iGPU.
Nice tea set!
Too bad I couldn't snag a neat little French press or something!
Hey Leapalot! A while ago you did a google forum for us to see who we wanted to marry most of non-marryable npc's. When is that video coming out?
Working on it! Probably next week or the following one!
@@Leapalot Thanks for the reply! I'm really looking forward to it! Take your time to make it a great video! :)

What mod do you use to show the radius for the sprinklers and the scarecrow?
Ui info suite 2!
I want you to be as happy as you made me; watching this video.
Thank you so much! (I hope?!)
@@Leapalot No need to worry.
I don’t think setting yourself up to entertain me counts as ‘cheating’. :)
My hero! 😍
How do you get layout or grid of sprinkler and scarecrow.
That's from UIInfoSuite2! It's on github not nexus, so you'll have to Google it instead.
Hey wait a minute you turned your single coffee bean into a coffee......
I now have the sudden, severe urge to do something that is along the lines of…coffee beans.
Don't do it!
What could be the answers to the questions you didn't answer but did ask? IS Leapalot seeking therapy? We might never know.
No. 😊

Use hyper speed grow and turn it into coffee to further your quest for insanity
Is this what hell is like? Cause it sure looks like, and feels like it to me...
It sure was awful!
Why do I want to go do this now
Would not recommend!
What if you made all those beans into coffee? Would you get more or less gold? 🤔
You would double your gold, and halve your sanity.
For heavens sake! The next time you wanna do one of these whole farm challenges make sure you use the tractor!
Self care my friend.
I realized far too late that I should have just 🌟changed🌟 the rules a little.
Just under a million gold for all that coffee😟
Not great huh?
Did you use a mod to place the sprinklers to be able to see the spaces they will cover? If so what mod is that?
I use UIInfoSuite2 for that: github.com/Annosz/UIInfoSuite2/releases
@@Leapalot thank you!
To be honest with you, I'd make about half this money on account of um... *cough*, consuming the goods
Wait
What if you make all those to coffee, then sell the coffee
Then I die. :(
I did the math so you dont have to die!
3117 gold
4935 silver
54362 normal
Adding up and rounding to a number devisible by 5 give you 2 normal 2 gold and 62,410 coffee to keg making you
12,482 coffee sell for 150 each
Or 1,872,300 in profit, which is double what you got.
But wait, thats not all!
If you get the triple shot aspresso recepie, that will turn to 4,160 tripple shot espresso, (+2 single cups) selling for 450 each netting you 1,872,000
So for the cost of the reminder of your sanity, grandpa could torcher you even more for FREE by just telling you that you can profit only from tripple shot espresso and even if you sell the leftover beens and coffee you actually lose money for the recepie! :)
Hihihi! I like this video. I thought coffee was a waste of rescourses but this was interesting. I only use coffee to be faster when in volcano :). my name is freya btw
Only growing coffee for the speed boost is definitely a better plan than this... Thanks Freya!

I'm just kidding man, another great video! I couldn't imagine trying to do that without cheats. When you said all of Grandpa's sophisticated equipment I actually thought you'd be using the tractor from the start tbh 😂

Just turn it in to coffee. Faster equals more money...over all.

I like the concept
