Streisand's lung capacity while singing is one of the things she is known for. That and her incredible resonant, powerfull, pitch perfect and crystal clear voice. She is the dream of all vocalist : having a total control of her singing voice with a unbelievable breath control. The late 60s and the 70s, she was at the peak of her voice, still unmatchable to this day (: She is so talented that even in her late 70s she could still hold a belt over 10 secondes with incredible power. She's also never been trained by a vocal coach either, it's all natural for her. Her singing voice was randomly discovered when she was auditioning for a acting job when she was in her early 20s. She's 80 now and doesn't sing much anymore, she deserves to rest after such an amazing career.
Your reaction is priceless! You have been robbed of many hours of enjoyment if this is the first time you’ve experienced this kind of rush! More Barbra!
One of the most thrilling finales in move musical history. You can appreciate it as Yentl sailing off to her new life, or you can experience it as Streisand soaring off into movie immortality.
Barbra has just turned 80, she got her start on Broadway and then did Funny Girl there. This musical was then turned into a movie and the rest is history
Her voice is like "butter." I have loved her since 1975. First time I heard her sing. There is not a movie of hers that I dislike. You ought to check out her television specials too.
It sounds like Disney because the lyrics were written by the same pair as many of the Disney songs: Alan and Marilyn Bergman. They were terrific. The music here was also written by their frequent collaborator , Michel Legrand.
At 15, I became obsessed with this soundtrack. I performed a different song from it, solo with piano accompaniment, "There are moments you remember all your life" in front of 700 people, at 21. At 22, I studied singing. She is such an inspiration. The ultimate at her profession, the superb artist.
Did I hear that note? I heard that note for the first time 39 years ago and had been hearing Barbra’s notes for 20 years before that as a child. Barbra is one of the greatest singers- greatest ENTERTAINERS of all time time. As you learn more about her and her amazing career you’re going to continue to be astonished.
Barbra Streisand was born April 24, 1942. She will be 80 years old next year. Her first solo album was released in February 1963, and she took top honors at the Grammys, winning Album of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance. Streisand has been winning awards and breaking records ever since. She is the only artist in history to have a #1 album on the Billboard 200 Album Chart for six consecutive decades (1960s to 2010s). If she can manage another #1 album this decade, she will extend that streak to seven decades, and would be almost unmatchable in my lifetime. She is known for that powerful voice and has over 60 albums to her credit. She's also starred in over 20 movies. "A Piece of Sky" is the finale from the musical movie "Yentl" which Barbra Streisand directed. Streisand became the first woman to co-write, co-produce, direct and star in a major studio motion picture, as well as sing on the award-winning soundtrack. The original song score won an Oscar for composers Alan & Marilyn Bergman and Michel Legrand. The song is about never giving up following your dream: "What's wrong with wanting more? If you can fly, then soar. With all there is, why settle for, just a piece of sky?" I am glad that you enjoyed the song, David. The expression on your face as you listened to Streisand hold and belt that final note was priceless! I had goosebumps as I watched you react! Thank you so much!

She has accomplished almost everything in her lifetime like acting, singing, directing. I think she is also a humanitarian if I am not wrong. The woman is a powerhouse & as you've just heard her voice is as well. I think she was robbed at the Oscars for not winning for Yentl, not just for the film but for the music alone. It was a very moving film & beautifully captured in that cinematic style with subtle tones. Barbra's last album Walls was wonderful too & like the ABBA Voyage album I also have a vinyl copy of it too as I only choose to buy the best on vinyl these days. Things have been quiet for Barbra lately I can only presume coz of Covid but I am sure she is probably working on another album but nearing 80 now she doesn't have to prove anything any more just that she is a survivor & as she would put it...a work in progress.

A great start for you to learn about the amazing voice and vocal ability of Barbra Streisand. I hope you react to more Barbra songs as she is the ultimate singer of all time She turns each song into an emotional experience that is life affirming
Oh...the look on your face when Babs continues on with that note. It is a classic my friend. Thank U for appreciating Barbra for the talent that she has & Yentl & the songs contained therein were wonderful. She has always given her all to be a superstar & still is tho I must admit at almost 80 now I doubt whether she could ever replicate this performance. This was 1983, a long time ago & she was 41. Oh, she can still sing but in a much lower key these days. U are right tho in thinking....how can a human carry a note like that for so long....I guess only Barbra could as I think she wrote this song & many others for the film. I would still classify her as one of the greatest singers from the 60's we ever had & maybe Judy Garland would be up there too but Judy didn't survive the stardom that Barbra has achieved tho she was a great entertainer for that time period. U have a good taste in music which sure beats the babble that is being made today. Keep these coming as your expressions are priceless.
This song is always an emotional rollercoaster for me. It is beautifully philosophical and uplifting in that sense, but her vocals and the interjections of the song "Papa, can you hear me?" and that soaring climax always do me in. The only thing that can really top it is the live version from 1994 where she ultimately duets with this recording for the climax. Gotta see it to believe it.
Hey David...was not expecting this one.. am not a huge Barbra Streisand fan but I did go to watch this film in the 80's and it's a beautiful film...That song though...OMG...the way it builds to that soaring climax...absolutely amazing. Thanks for reminding me how good she can be 👍
Hey, first time, so you really didn't know Barbra was THAT kind of a singer, she debut on Broadway in 1962 for "I Can Get It For You Wholesale", got her first record deal for Columbia in 63, did two records, then starred on Broadway in "Funny Girl" in 64, did two TV specials in 65 and 66, and this was all before her 68 movie debut in "Funny Girl". She was already a legend before her 70s work and onward, you have quite an interesting journey ahead of you!
Barbra did not want to sing in "Yentl" or have it be anything close to a "musical". But no studio would get involved (financing, distribution, etc.) unless she agreed to sing in it. As director she thought of a device that was at least a bit of a compromise: all of the songs were internal monologues and she only opened her mouth to sing when she was alone. Except in this final scene. She also would not allow it to be marketed as a "musical". Instead, it was called "A film with music" on all print ads.
Barbra actually called it a movie with music. Marilyn and Allen Bergman wrote the music for this film and have known Barbra since she was a teen! Sadly Marilyn passed this week so this is an appropriate tribute! Thank you for sharing ☮️❤️
OMG. I hope you do more Barbra Streisand reactions. She has an infinite number of songs that showcase her vocal power and range. Try her album "Guilty" with duets (and produced by) Barry Gibb of the the Bee Gees'. The whole album is a masterpiece.
Whenever I hear a song from "Yentl" or watch the movie it always reminds me of the film "In & Out" starring Kevin Kline. He's playing a huuuge Streisand fan and someone says to him that she was too old for Yentl. Then all hell breaks loose... 😄
The GOAT... one time was asked..."How do you hold that note for so long?" Her reply, "Because I want to." How simple, yet how so profound!! Thanks for your reaction and please do more. There are so many people born after the '80s who know so little about this amazing talent.
I’m sorry, why did you start the sentence with “The Goat”. That’s one of the most reductive statements I have ever heard about another human being and extremely rude. It’s one thing not to like her but another thing to degrade a fellow human being…

I think Papa Can You Hear Me is a better song from Yentl. You should also listen to 'Evergreen' from A Star Is Born. A song Barbra co-wrote and won an Oscar for. One of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
Great reaction. May I suggest the song "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, which was toward the beginning of her career and then her duet with Ray Charles, which will start showing you the range if genre she rules.
I think it sounds musical theatre ...which makes sense as the song is from a film score . to her dad who encouraged her to live as she wanted in her heart
ABBAMAN... this is your brother from another mother lol another hit from yentl was papa can you hear me. one of the best songs i love by her is called EVERGREEN. from the remake of a star is born( yes the same movie that lady gaga did last year) she did in 1976 this song is from that. she wrote the music and paul williams wrote the lyrics. paul wrote many of the carpenters early hits. she is not known for writing music but this song is exquisite!! maybe react to it sometime.

LOL, I just have to say, Aladdin is not a really old Disney movie. Sleeping Beauty, yes but not Aladdin. Just messing with you. :) Barbra started off singing Broadway show tunes in the early 60's. She was singing them in her Brooklyn school and local places before she was 18. She was also in Broadway plays and I believe her performance in Funny Girl is what made her famous. Dude, by the way, I watched your reaction like 5 times over! I never heard this song either.
I Am A Woman In Love - Written by & preformed with Barry Gibb of the BeeGees Her biggest hit & another song full of notes damn few singers can touch. Edited: I'll add that last note is High D5 & for 19 seconds & She nails it, she's not trying to find it. She's on it.
Sir: the lady's last name is pronounced "Strei-SAND" (like sand on a beach, as she has said repeatedly), not "Strei-zind" or "Strei-zand"; emphasis is on it second sylable. : )
GivenToe you are so right, Barbra Streisand has a God-fearing voice .I would like you to listen to her version of "Mother" as John Lennon wrote and sang. Talk about Goosebumps !! If you get time ... know you're full of stuff ⭐🤗🎶🎵
I agree! She does an amazing cover of "Mother". She got dissed by critics in 1971 when she recorded it at the start of her pop-rock phase that decade. Now I never hear anything but praise for it.
@@Anna-Gunilla1792 By rock music critics--yes. Whereas most felt her crossover album just before this one ("Stoney End") was a pleasant surprise, "Barbra Joan Streisand" rocked too hard, and John Lennon's "Mother"" was considered sacred.
First ABBA then Barbra, two of of my favorites! But after the album Guilty with Barry Gibb from 1981 I don't appreciate the choice of music so much. But her voice is enormous.

🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Ajay! 😁
If you do more STREISAND I'll subscribe.👍
ABBAMAN... this is your brother from another mother lol another hit from yentl was papa can you hear me. one of the best songs i love by her is called EVERGREEN. from the remake of a star is born( yes the same movie that lady gaga did last year) she did in 1976 this song is from that. she wrote the music and paul williams wrote the lyrics. paul wrote many of the carpenters early hits. she is not known for writing music but this song is exquisite!! maybe react to it sometime.
Sounds like a plan 🤣😁👍🏻
@@GivenToe Streisand and Paul Williams won Oscars and Grammys for "Evergreen." It was also a #1 Billboard hit in the United States.
@@GivenToe Evergreen is a great recommendation. If you do react, there are several versions on YTube as far as video...the scene from the movie where she is recording the song, a few concert performances, a performance at the Oscars that year, and a few fan-made vids. PLEASE be sure to use the MOVIE CLIP. She's too mezmerizing in it to miss!
I will write this down as a suggestion, but to have a better chance of making your reaction on RUclips, I recommend you to become a Patron, since those reactions are a priority 😊 I get a LOT of suggestions and I can not do all of them. @@GivenToe Thanks Giventoe. I am a Patreon on a another channel, so I knew it would be taken as a suggestion vs a request. But it's good for you to explain it as I think many people across the tube here might not understand that the squeaky patron gets the song. I see them in repeated threads saying, "why won't you react to what I'm asking for?? I've asked repeatedly" Anywho, I appreciate the invite and will RSVP with an "I might attend". 😉 As Scottaroni suggested, I need to check out some more of your vids. I did enjoy this one! 😎✌
I had forgotten this one !! - thanks
I wish Disney would adapt Yentl into a cartoon with Barbara original vocals.
Barbra is considered to be the best. Not my opinion, (well it is actually) but that of many in the music, theatre and film industries.
Her control and expression is god like, and unmatched.
Strei-SAND ...like sand on the beach.😉
🤣👍🏻
Yes we all did...indeed that note lol!!!
Your need to listen to The way we were by our girl Barbra Streisand.

She’s da bestest! 👍
A real great Singer 👍 I find her Duet with Celine Dion very cool 👍
LOL, I just have to say, Aladdin is not a really old Disney movie. Sleeping Beauty, yes but not Aladdin. Just messing with you. :) Barbra started off singing Broadway show tunes in the early 60's. She was singing them in her Brooklyn school and local places before she was 18. She was also in Broadway plays and I believe her performance in Funny Girl is what made her famous. Dude, by the way, I watched your reaction like 5 times over! I never heard this song either.
I Am A Woman In Love - Written by & preformed with Barry Gibb of the BeeGees
Her biggest hit & another song full of notes damn few singers can touch.
Edited: I'll add that last note is High D5 & for 19 seconds
& She nails it, she's not trying to find it. She's on it.
Disney wishes!
Yup.
Sir: the lady's last name is pronounced "Strei-SAND" (like sand on a beach, as she has said repeatedly), not "Strei-zind" or "Strei-zand"; emphasis is on it second sylable. : )
If you liked that then watch the Yentl medley from the 1994 Barbra the concert.
Barbara is the best! I recommend listening to Enough is Enough Extended version with Donna Summer.
Loved this "She sings good..." 😂
😅😅
7:52 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯......🤯......🤯.......🤯
🤣
Will somebody please turn this into a reaction GIF.
😂😂😂😂
Seen this movie too many times to mention... Should've reacted to song Papa Can you hear me...strap yourself down and watch the entire movie...
the movie is amazing. it's a musical (of sorts).
GivenToe you are so right, Barbra Streisand has a God-fearing voice .I would like you to listen to her version of "Mother" as John Lennon wrote and sang. Talk about Goosebumps !! If you get time ... know you're full of stuff ⭐🤗🎶🎵
👍🏻😁
Yes!! Mother sung by Barbra is outstanding!!!
I agree! She does an amazing cover of "Mother". She got dissed by critics in 1971 when she recorded it at the start of her pop-rock phase that decade. Now I never hear anything but praise for it.
@@BrettTwinSavage Really, she got dissed?
One of my favourite albums!
Share your sentiments. :)
woman in love from guilty is good
Check out from Barbara
Since I Fell for you...
Crying time with Ray Charles
One less bell to answer
I garantee you you will be amazed!!!!
Welcome to Babs, *itch. Legend is an understatement
Shaved head, black vest, tatts and a Streisand fan. Are you sure you are straight? 😂😜
For the love of 🤦🏼♂️🤣🤣🤣 Yes I am VERY sure and happily married. This was a request from PATREON, my Patrons pay to see me react to certain videos 😁
@@GivenToeI was just pulling your leg. 😉
you forgot good looking as well 😉 but hold on...so that means if you shave your hair, wear a black vest, have tatts and listen to a barbara streisand song that you're not straight??👀😶🤔 are you for real? 😵🥴 haha
🤣🤣🤣🤣
👍
You'd have a smidge more credibility if you spelled her name correctly.
Honest mistake, fixed 👍🏻
You should listen to the Von Smith version. Amazing
So now you've seen THE spoiler... ;)
