I can see one very niche use case for the mainline train from Victoria to Brixton. In the evening rush-hour, if the Victoria line is particularly busy, you can use the mainline, since you are starting at the terminus, it might be easier to get on. I know it is very niche but...
I travelled to school on the VIC-ORP line through the 1950s. 3 per hour. I can still remember departure times from the station by my school: xx14, xx34, xx54.
Very nice video! Please make more! But I think you should have explained more what the service pattern of trains is like at Brixton National Rail station. Other things that might be worth mentioning (in a comparison video) is the times of the first trains and last trains. Is there any time of day when the Underground is not running to Brixton, but National Rail still is?
@9:28, I puffed up those stairs on wobbly legs, but the station is also grim. I don't go to Brixton often and will take the bus since on the train, I have to head into London and out again.
I understand why TFL dont want e bikes traveling and its because to prevent fires on trains in the tunnels and if your underground and a fire starts on your train they it would be really scary
Brixton-Victoria with Southeastern is not really needed given the Victoria Line high frequency uncrowded Tube and accessible Underground station. By contrast Clapham High Street badly needs the Victoria-Orpington train as the adjacent Clapham North Northern Line Tube station is dangerously overcrowded with a narrow island platform. What Brixton needs is the Windrush Line to Clapham Junction and Canada Water. Network Rail should change the timetable so that some Victoria-Orpington trains call at Clapham High Street and Windrush Line trains serve a new Brixton High station.
Really enjoying your output. I'd seriously like to see a trial team up with 'London Cycle Routes' (of this parish) to test advertised v actual v cycling times on a few routes. This one would've been an ideal candidate.
For me: 1. Can I be bothered with the stairs up to the NR? 2. When is the next train? 30 minute frequency is not turn-up-and-go 3. Do I want to relax and use my phone with signal 4. What time is it? Each train has different peak times, with the NR having more of a directional difference during peak but the Victoria having Brixton as the first stop = seat 5. Do I want to eat or drink on the train
For the above ground service in part the Victoria Line allowed speeding up of a post street tram era of the electric railways for the benefit of Zone 4/5/6 dwellers , even though the Battersea Park Road station of the South Eastern was long gone and Clapham Road didnt really get a stopping service , it did mean for many years the bus was the only alternative to cross the SW postcode suburbs of Lambeth and Wandsworth (there was the Green Line coach services but percieved as expensive and then congestion and the Victoria Line itself killed them off. Yes the Brixton Station is a mess and Victoria can be a heaving nightmare - trick is to use the "side" entrance when possible which is a little less busy if you dont need to squeeze into the tube - or to attempt to cross the concourse to find your way to Buckingham Palace Road for bus stops etc to Chelsea. In an ideal world better interchange at Brixton with the Loughborough Junction complex of lines and a station stop at both Battersea Park Road (for Battersea Power Station) and Clapham Road would bring travel benifits. but probably not any more significant residential development to actually pay for it. A tip if on the Victoria Line though and you want Battersea Power Station - get out at Stockwell and walk down the hill through Little Portugal and you get to Nine Elms Road and the walk through the new covent garden area, is ok if not raining and saves a Zone 1 fare
The issues with SE lines, is that they are capped to 25 mph out of brixton and then 45mph till brixton , it should be 60mph as its basically 3 miles of straight track between london vic and brixton. I dont get why the speed limits are stuck in 1950 tbh.
I assume it's down to either track quality, signal positioning, certain junctions or a combination of the three. Even if the track is straight, there's other factors at play.
If you're travelling into London from the provinces, a paper London Travelcard return 'can' be cheaper for people who need to take several journeys in the zone 1 area. It can be just a £5 premium on the equivalent return fare. I tend to use a combination of a concessionary bus pass with a railcard discounted oyster card. I miss the days of a London Family Travelcard from the Midlands @ £24 per adult plus £1 each for up to 4 kids per adult. Edit ... Apparently, the latter is now £30 for adults but still a good option.
Interesting bits on the Brixton Extension of the Victoria Line. Of Course the re-use of one of the northern line running tunnels at Stockwell when the station there was rebuilt to accommodate the line itself, and of course it is a very useful interchange there. Victoria Tube station is still a mess though, and ackward to get to ground level , but the newer subways out to Victoria Street do help particulary if you want Westminster Cathedral or the civil service departments along victoria street. Arguably as good to Walk to Westminster Abbey too rather than changing District to Westminster Station. The platforms on the stations have the odd mix of "1970s" basic and the colourful infill panels for each station. The illuminated station name Roundels are generally unique to the Victoria Line. Pimlico of course is the station with no interchange, but is useful if you want the southern part of Victoria - or Horseferry Road / Smith Square with a short walk along Millbank or the road that runs behind (north) of Tate Britain. The council flats toward Churchill developement are OK, those though around Vauxhall Bridge Road a bit iffy.
As a train driver who frequents Victoria, main line, I fear that many use the train beacuse they can force their way through the ticket barriers there, and just walk off at Brixton without being checked. Checks by SE on the trains being non-existent!
If you are super lucky, you can arrive at Brixton and nip across to the other platform to leave pretty much immediately. It's useful for Tube Challenge
once the Metropolitan Line Signaling is fully upgraded CBTC they metropolitan Line services will be more frequent Nearly Half of the Line is running ATO between Aldgate and Finchley road Finchley road to Northwick Park is next to go live we don't know yet
Completely forgot about the 4 lines modernisation including the Circle, District and H&C. The Metropolitan Line is so useful between Wembley and the Northwest, since Chiltern trains are so infrequent, dirty and just fly past anyways.
Two videos suggestions: In London you can travel between two destinations using train or Croydon tram - Beckenham Junction to Birkbeck by tram & southern train. Mitchell Junction to Wimbledon by tram or Thameslink Sutton loop. A video about the different train routes Between Epson/Sutton to Clapham Junction. East and West Croydon to Clapham Junction Victoria/London Bridge. On the train map Southern have a lot of different routes between same destinations.
It really only makes sense if the Victoria Line isn't running. Most people would opt for the bus in that situation and it might be difficult to get on one of those.
For me I personally would say the Victoria Line but Southeastern does operate good services and they are to upgrade the Class 376 and to add toilets on the Class 707 City Beam trains.
Accidental midnight release, but hey ho, enjoy!
Maybe some Aussies will be happy!
Midnight in Brixton, not a problem

Salut est ce que tu es francais ? J'ai vu ton fond d'ecran à 2:52 et j'ai vu le petit texte! Je suis tombé sur ta vidéo au hasard sur ce bonne vidéo !
0:17 also the 3 (not N3 btw)
Also there are the number 2 and number 3 bus routes just to complete the set
I always forget the 3 haha. In my mind it still terminates at Oxford Street!
I understand why TFL dont want e bikes traveling and its because to prevent fires on trains in the tunnels and if your underground and a fire starts on your train they it would be really scary

The thing is, its just one stop until vic from brixton using southeastern
Thameslink seems like a perfect train for you
@muzz040 thameslink is very infrequent on the Sutton loop at times.
@bb-3653 fair enough but in the core section it's only 5 minutes
@muzz040 thats because their coming crom various different locations tbf.

Ive always loved me a 465😊

What the music played please whilst you were on the train. Fab video. 😊

Occasionally Factory Junction may be used where you are level with part of the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
I’m so stealing the “trilly-lily-le-lily” 😂😂😂

All my life living in London, I've never been on that overground train to Brixton, only the tube.
It really only makes sense if the Victoria Line isn't running. Most people would opt for the bus in that situation and it might be difficult to get on one of those.
I have a friend in Herne Hill and I sometimes got the Thameslink instead of Victoria line if going from Kings Cross
Got an advert from southeastern whilst watching this 😂😂😂
For me I personally would say the Victoria Line but Southeastern does operate good services and they are to upgrade the Class 376 and to add toilets on the Class 707 City Beam trains.
Victoria Line 2009 Tube Stock
“ if i hear the treh leh leh leh leh”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Noticed that I have same Oyster card as you 👍. Got one off eBay 😊
Can you do the 37 Vs 345 from Peckham to Clapham Junction
What about Barking Riverside to to Thames View Estate vs EL1 or 2😊
Nah Victoria Line all day 🔥🔥🔥 the 09 Stock is a beast
Southeastern to Orpington is every 30 minutes off peak on weekdays
That’s what I had though, but nope, it’s actually every 15 off peak. Have a look on realtime trains!
@ I wonder when they have changed that. I used the line quite a lot until ~mid last year and was always frustrated with 2tph
Perhaps leave the written stuff on the screen a second or two longer please?
The Victoria line is great but unbearably overcrowded, even with the high frequency
Bring back tescos chat lol
Southeastern Class 465
bad bot get a life
Why not just get on the train and walk through the carriages instead of running on the platform?
You can’t walk between coupled class 465s units and the front 4 carriages are always quieter and better to film in!
