I live a few stops away from here, I have used this station once or twice to get to Morden tube station, and I guess the reason why this station is barely used by locals is that Thameslink is an unreliable and infrequent operator meanwhile the Northern line is the opposite.
A station served by Thameslink that probably has low passenger numbers is Bat and Ball. Interestingly it is managed by Southeastern , despite not a single Southeastern train serving it. I wonder if this is because it is located on a branch line between Sevenoaks and Otford , both Southeastern stations.
I think that Thameslink operate both clockwise and anti-clockwise via Wimbledon &/or via Sutton. With some terminating at St. Albans City and some terminating at Luton.
I have caught a train from Morden South on a Sunday Morning after staying a night in London a few years ago. There were 2 other passengers catching the train. It was the first time I could the new Class 700 trains. It certainly feels disconnected from the area.
I used to commute from Morden South late 80s/early 90s. Beneath the canopy was a block that housed ( I assume) waiting room and toilets) but it was blocked off and windows boarded and eventually demolished.
That loop is strange. Maybe they should put Tramlink down it like they did with the other old weird lines down that way. However the route is so winding the trams would probably make quite a lot of noise going round curves, that residents wouldn't like one little bit.
I commuted from St Helier, the next station on for a year or two and as far as I remember the departure boards only show service to Sutton although the trains continue from Sutton along the Mitcham Junction side of the loop
Nice shots of the place. Feels like it's teetering on the edge of being a notoriously undermanaged station with the somewhat tired and dirty look. At least the benches and staircase are fine, but no wheelchair access is never a good sign. I wonder what it's like for regular commuters in the week. I have a Thameslink station nearby but on a different branch, nowhere near Sutton.
where do you get stats from? that pdf only shows lile the top ten in and out of london, bottom 10 and the newest stations, and the elizabeth line central core, i couldnt find a list of every station with passanger numbers
Stations on the BML and down to Horsham are managed under the Southern brand so technically he’s correct. Morden South and Faygate are ultimately managed by the same operator - GTR. If people want to be picky and go with GTR’s least used station, probably would be Doleham.
Call *that* quiet? Not even close, my friend. Of all stations open year round, Denton in Greater Manchester has featured in the 'least used' category twice in consecutive years, with the 54 passengers using the station in 2023/24 comfortably beating it's less impressive 2022/23 total of .... drumroll please .... 34 *this is in a year* Honestly, I thought it would be a station on either the Far North, Skye or West Highland lines, or the Cambrian Coast (but BR cheated and closed the really poorly used CCL stations many moons ago).
These are such well put together videos and always interesting. Love it!

There is something very tranquil about a station when there is no trains.
Love your channel.
Always bringing interesting content

It's mainly a college (Merton College) and Morden Park not much else there

I wonder what they do at West Sutton for example cause it’s deffo quicker to go via Mitcham from there!
@@SomeoneExploresbeen through - it still shows sutton!
Good video man
I used use this station a lot in my youth, at least its not crowded like morden tube station but thanks for video
One upgrade and more people will come to this station
Great video
Thought it would be on the loop
It is on a loop, but the train indicator boards tell everyone that all Thameslink trains terminate at Sutton.

Should have walked round to the front of the mosque. lovely exterior
It is very easy to confuse South Morden and Merton South - I bet half the passengers thought that they were getting off at South Merton - I did once.
I like Thameslink lots of recent history

There’s an excel you can download with all the in-depth stats and you can sort them out by operator, region etc.
I thought Faygate would be the least used station lol

Thameslink's least used station.
