I think it’s funny that a lot of people miss the fact that it’s not only Airbenders who are spiritual when we clearly see that Iroh, a firebender, has a strong connection to spirits as well. I don’t believe you need to be a bender to have a spiritual connection so Zaheer already had a strong spiritual connection before he was an air bender

I agree it doesn’t matter what bender they are it depends how much of spiritual you are and connected to the spirit realm

    • @Fotoschiki
      @Fotoschiki Год назад +3

Exactly. Every nation has their own way of connecting to the spirit world. The first time Aang went into the spirit world was in an earth nation forest, then in a fire nation temple, then in the north pole's spirit oasis. The moon spirit was once a girl from the water tribe. Last season's villain was a spiritual water bender.
The avatar, as the most spiritual human to exist, reincarnates in every nation equally.
It just so happens that the air nomad culture is one that almost exclusively focuses on detatchment of the natural world, while the others are more in tune with nature and humanity. Ironically almost no air bender ever really reached spiritual enlightenment, even so almost all of them devoted their whole life to it. In 10,000 years only two of them reached the state Zaheer did. So having a spiritual culture does not necessarily mean that their people generally have a stronger connection to the spirit world.

What I find so interesting with Lin are the bits and pieces we find out about the past and her past.
-She used to be in a relationship with Tenzin but broke up for some reason.
-We know Pema "stole" Tenzin and now they have A LOT of kids.
-Based off Lins backstory it seems Lin was focused on making her mother proud by living up to her legacy and upholding the city her mother brought up.
-But at the same time pushed away her lover at the time, Tenzin.
-Tenzin who was probably focused on his fathers legacy and bringing back the Air Nation so he probably wanted kids.
-But having a lot of kids would stop Lin from ever being Chief of Police and working as an officer.
So Pema probably appealed to that part of Tenzin, of him wanting a large family and willing to have one with him. So Lin sees how she had to give up everything to live for her mothers legacy, her mother gave up her own legacy to save Suyin and was never proud of Lins efforts. Then Suyin who had no responsibility ended up happy and with everything she could ever want. Then everyday since the fallout, Lin has had a scar as a reminder of her families collapse.

@@mrgroovy5113 Seriously. Even if you look at just the bending side of things, she struggled with airbending for a whole season and is hardly a master with it yet. She struggled with spiritbending for a bit, and she still only has rudimentary healing. The reason she picked up metalbending is because she has a clear affinity for earthbending, which is another reason airbending is far from natural for her. Meanwhile, Aang is 12 and becomes adept with water fairly easily, would've learned fire just as quick without the trauma of hurting Katara to overcome, and struggled with earthbending for one episode. Barely anyone complains that he struggled enough. I'm personally fine with it (though, I kind of wish his journey took the better part of two years rather than a few months), but find it disingenuous to only point these things out with Korra.

She was sheltered and lied to her entire life, people manipulate her for their own sake, they have unrealistic expectations on her just because she's the avatar and they forget she's just a teenager!! She also doesn't believe her actions/attitude made Tenzin break up with her. It's just that she wasn't good enough. Again.
From her perspective, she does everything right, and still fails. Picard would say "that is life." And I'm sure Lin would agree, believing that she's always destined to lose.
The only time she wins is by sacrificing part of her idetity. She saves Pema and her children by sacrificing her bending. She reconciles with her sister by just giving uo her anger and forgiving her without even one apology.
She can only win by losing.
ETA: Telling someone with unresolved anger issues, parental issues, mental scars and other trauma to "grow up" is just....ick. Like, where the heck did you leave your compassion?
Lin didn't WANT to do this. She was forced into it by everyone badgering her to forgive someone who NEVER APOLOGISED! You put pressure on someone, break them, and act shocked that it DOESN'T magically fix everything?

She doesn't WANT to be "bitter." She wants to be hapoy as HERSELF, and no one will let her. No one apologizes, no one leaves well enough alone. They just keep berbally and mentally beating on her until she snaps, and declare themselves the good guys.

In fairness, I think with A:TLA, we saw Aang spend an entire season mastering one element at a time. With Korra, we see her already having mastered 3/4 by the time we meet. For her spiritual training, she kinda perfected it off screen, as she only really had the help with Jinora or Raava in the Season 2 finale. And as for airbending, it's a little more coherent but it kinda suffers the same fate the rest of the series does where the development takes a back seat to the villain of the season

I remember Natalie saying the same thing when Korra managed to spiritbend for the first time and I was super confused, because it happened super late into season 2 and she tried plenty of times before that moment and failed miserably (one of these fails resulted in her being consumed by a spirit and losing her memory) so I really didn't understand it. Also, of course Korra would be able to metalbend, she's the Avatar, a fantastic earthbender and metalbending is pretty rare, but not exactly super rare. Natalie accepted Aang learning earthbending in a day with minimal struggle and getting energybending from a Lion Turtle, I don't really get why she's so hung up on this.

@@christopherb501 in the beginning there was a time skip, sure she could bend 3 of the 4 elements effortlessly, but so could Aang. If you're talking about Korra as a baby, well I would give that to her personality, she's daring, adventurous and reckless at times. She's also achievement driven so she probably wanted to do as much as she could as soon as she could. Aang not doing the other elements as a child from what we know is also probably due to his personality, he's reserved, more disciplined. etc. He probably never tried bending other elements cause obviously his sole discipline was air bending, so he was disciplined enough to focus only on that. We also see Aang very easily pick up water and fire bending, albeit, he was reckless with fire bending, but did it quite easily initially. Aang also had one or two struggle episodes with earth bending, then once he finally stood his ground defending Sokka, because he couldn't use any of the elements as they weren't working, he unlocked his earth bending. Same thing with Korra, she lost all other bending, and on the brink of losing her love interest and his bending to Amon, she finally unlocks air bending. Both Aang and Korra, after unlocking the difficult bending for them, seemingly were quite proficient at that bending style, we just don't see the extra training they do.

Toph giving her daughters too much freedom is also a result of her own parents sheltering her way too much when she was little. Idk if you remembered that from The Last Airbender

"everything is so easy for her, it's kind of annoying"
Korra's air bending in season 1: "Am I a joke to you?"
jokes aside, it's probably easier for her to learn metal bending, because earth bending itself came very early to her, she had after all figured it out herself very quickly when she was just a kid.
a lot of people have interpreted Toph's "I'm the chief of police, I can't have a daughter in jail" as Toph being worried about her reputation, but let's be honest, you probably wouldn't want your own daughter amidst all those people you have single-handedly arrested yourself, that sounds incredibly dangerous.

It's like she's blind to Korra's struggles. Plus, bending earth is easy for Korra, so of course Metal would be too. Also, I hope no if forgetting how Toph learned Metal bending quick too.

Thank you for knowing it was Zaheer right away! I watched a different channel's reaction at this point and one of them believed he was a shape shifter more than him just casually shaving everything off 😅

Oh boy. The rest of the season is going to be a hell of a roller coaster for you. You ended at the perfect place considering how the rest of the episode flow right from one to another.

Have you heard the theory that Sokka is the father of Suyin? If you look at Suyin's kids they look a lot like Sokka. Especially Baatar Jr.

I like how the show handles how flawed the original GAang were as parents and how that shaped their children's relationships to each other

The thing what i like about legend lf Korra is the fact that it shows the old gang was nog perfect. They were not perfect parents. Like all people have flaws so did they. It makes sense given ghe position they were in.
