    You mentioned having to tighten the rim clamps on the Super M three times. That is actually a good idea even if you are not painting the clamps and rims. When I had to replace a rim on the M that we had, I kept the wrench with the tractor for a week. The clamps had to be retightened several times before they quit loosening. I would drive about 15 minutes and get off to tighten the clamps. After they seemed to be stable, I rechecked every day for a week. For the first 3 days, I would get just a little more on some of the nuts but after that they stayed tight.

    As a painter that has usd this gun I would recommend having at least one rebuild kit mostly for replacement seals and springs or at least getting a replacement o-ring kit as having them on hand has kept projects moving forward. Also I really appreciate that you pay attention when slinging paint.

    An HVLP gun usually needs 10-15 psi, right at/behind the nozzle (basically what is called the "air cap"). On most guns, you can only adjust the pressure where it feeds into the gun (like you are doing with the regulator). There is a pressure drop between the regulator and the air cap - on some guns, this difference is very low, on cheaper HVLP guns this can be relatively high (25-30 psi). You are going to have to play with the gun to get the right setting - especially with the newer guns which are much more sensitive. Unfortunately, you can't just set the regulator at one pressure and forget it, things like humidity, temperature, barometric pressure and altitude above sea level all affect the gun - so every time you use the gun, you have to dial it in. It would be nice to be able to write down all the settings of the gun so that it always sprayed the same, but in the real world it doesn't work like that. Don't get me wrong, it will get you close - but you still have to fine tune the gun in order to spray the best pattern for your conditions. It just takes time in order to figure that out. You might look up gun setup videos for guidance, I think Paint Society has one, there are others.

  • @jklemin
    @jklemin Год назад +2

    Suggest regulating your air pressure down closer to spray pressure before it gets to your gun regulator. Will lessen the initial high pressure blast when you pull the trigger.

My point being is that it’s really cool to see you guys working together on shared passions and allowing us viewers to participate vicariously. I’m sure a lot of your subscribers are father/son duos as well and will continue the tradition that you and Sr. exhibit here.

  • @Bonderoev

    I was actually thinking about the "wastefulness" of that spray gun, a bit before you mentioned it. But then it dawned on me: you need a mixing cup anyway and the liner doubles as such. you don't need a filter screen, because it's built in to the lid. So the only extra waste you generate, is the lid and the nozzle assembly. BUT you also save a TON of solvent, which you would normally need to meticulously clean the front end of the gun. So it's probably a toss-up, or at least close, between the two methods.

    Years ago I did a full restoration of one of our old family tractors. Got down to the last part of doing the paint job after nearly 3 months of work to get everything torn down and rebuilt or replaced. I did a two-part epoxy paint job to make sure it would be durable and last for decades because we never had a good-looking tractor ever so I wanted one that would look good for years to come.
    The paint had a 72-hour full cure time, but a certain family member absolutely had to have it to cultivate tree rows less than one day into the curing time (Trees that had not been done for years somehow absolutely had to be done then.) and of course, had to scratch the crap out of the whole tractor in the process. It's been about 20 years now and the scratches look as fresh as the day he put them in it.
    People like that are why we can't have nice things.

      Great job as always! The best part of those disposable cups IMO is that if before you start spraying , leave the gun upside down and squeeze the trigger. That will suck all the air out of the top of the cup until there is no headspace then it will start spraying paint. From that point on, the gun will spray in any orientation. Super useful when painting the underside of a tractor. I painted my WD9 last year and it made getting the undersides of everything MUCH easier without the spitting when using a gravity only cup gun.
