      That's the strongest thing about alcoholism...denial. I lived in it for many years. One afternoon my kids teacher called me to bring some party items to school the next day and my brain was screaming Don't sound drunk but knew I did. In less than a minute after hanging up I convinced myself I didn't sound drunk. Crazy stuff. I didn't drink everyday, never missed work, paid my bills and never drank away a hangover. This only fed my denial. There were several things that should have been a wakeup call but my last drunk was like most others. I also knew that tho I didn't abuse my kids I did neglect them and they'd come to know I couldn't be counted on
      Too many broken promises.
      The morning I reached out for help my brain screamed don't call but in my heart I said God please help me. As soon as I did I found the AA help line. My 1st months there my sponsor explained denial to me and how my disease was baffling powerful and very patient.
      It's been 25 yrs and the obcession to drink has been gone a long time but this summer while doing yard work I thought how good s beer would be. Bc I've tools I can use i called a friend and said, hey out of nowhere I'm wanting a beer. She said, well u don't drink singles. U drink 12 pks. I laughed and said u r correct. Like I said this disease is powerful. May I never forget how I felt in my last yrs of drinking or the hurt I caused.
      I hope this woman gets help. Sadly so many dont and there are many behind her to step up and drink to the point of fear loneliness and despair.
      I watch these videos to remind me where I go if I choose to drink

After a couple of years I went back to work and after a job I was driving home and my mind went to how after work, especially this particular job, I would grab a case of beer. I’m a career firefighter. i’ve been an EMT for several years and I’m currently in paramedic school. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is very common in these fields. One of the most disappointing things about entering public safety is learning that first responders really aren’t heroes for the most part. They’re usually just people who need a decent job. I often question if public safety is something that really should be a career at all, and maybe not something that people do for 2 to 3 years as a service to the state before being able to move on to something more steady, and which doesn’t expose them to trauma on a regular basis. People that do this for 20 or 30 years often end up with substance abuse problems and often have terrible. Home lives. Divorce and infidelity are rampant. I just don’t think the human psyche is really made to do this kind of crap for decades.

      @@liliye9161 The sad thing is I'm sure that people who have been hit and killed by a drunk driver were being careful and aware but nothing is going to stop someone with a weapon on the road that weighs 4,000 pounds from crashing into someone when they're drunk. Drunks think they're driving just fine because the alcohol or drugs let them feel they're doing fine driving when in fact they might be all over the road.

    • @nft4751
      @nft4751 Год назад +14

      Remember that you also share the road with people who have narcissistic personality disorder as well as antisocial personality disorder, both of which only see you and all other drivers (as well as occupants of their own car) as objects. They have as much emotional empathy for you as you have for your microwave or vacuum cleaner. They also get bored very easily so they tend to drive wreckless on purpose to get a dopamine hit. Be careful out there, people joke that other people are “driving like a sociopath” when that person might ACTUALLY be one. They also tend to get enraged very easily

      I'm just a retired electrician/electronics tech, so I'm no legal expert. That said, my theory on why (how) she got the charges dismissed is because her lawyer viewed the footage and argued that the liquid the officer said he observed her pouring out was for sure alcohol, not just water or juice etc. Why make such a counterintuitive move? Because then he could shift the burden of proof to the prosecution to prove she wasn't perfectly sober while driving to this parking spot, and only THEN decided to crack open the spirits she brought with her to party hardy in the sanctity of her automobile. He could use this tactic in an attempt to have her charges either reduced, or dismissed altogether, likely shooting for the former. I know, this scenario is almost certainly not true, but technicalities, you know? Now the caveat with this awkward defense would be that it (at least I think??) is still considered DUI/OWI even if she wasn't driving, because so long as she's in the operator's seat and the engine is running, she technically checks all the boxes for a slam dunk case of DUI for the prosecution. Now how she dodged that one, I have no clue.

      Did you even watch the video? She poured out liquid when the police showed up, mentioning about coming from or going to some club, was past out behind the wheel, and acted like a total lush. This is the quintessential definition of drunk.

      @@oliveryt7168 No. It's a literal poison which there is no safe amount to consume.
      It destroys the most lives of any drug, even killing addicts who try to stop using it.
      Also, most people who have drank have also driven drunk - meaning they literally are criminals.
      Also to repeat myself; There is no safe amount of alcohol to consume, nor is there a responsible way to consume something which cannot be consumed safely.
      If you need proof alcohol is bad, look no further then the lengths people went to to end prohibition -- No other drug has caused such a widespread violent reaction among the population for prohibition. Not one, hence why most are still illegal - nobody else will go to the lengths alcoholics will to get their fix. Nobody else will go to such extremes to attempt to normalize their behavior or minimize the dangers of it.
