I still listen to Metallica occasionally but I get far more enjoyment listening to melodeath bands and there is a whole load of good melodeath out there. Metal just isn’t mainstream at all these days outside of like a few huge bands but there is still so much good metal out there you just gotta dig a little deeper to find it.

This is, unfortunately, true. Joey left the band due to an autoimmunity disorder (transverse myelitis) that, for a while, stopped him being able to use his legs properly. He has since passed. RIP Joey! Paul died of heart failure, as well. RIP Paul! Chris left the band for a number of reasons. The new drummer, Jay Weinberg, is the son of Bruce Spingsteen's drummer Max Weinberg, and he's a BEAST. As for the masks, there are regular changes to them. Sometimes those changes are hardly noticeable, other times they are significant.
Hi Ray, if you want a really incredible Performance, i recommend you Wadruna feat. Aurora - "Hellvegen" Song is written in old style nord music but still this hits deep. Aurora is quite famous today and has a very unique voice.

So knowing little about your channel, it seems like you saw Duality, Snuff, Psychosocial a couple months or so ago. Maybe those were the first videos you saw by Slipknot. Those are all decades old songs at this point. For every record Slipknot revamps their look. Evolves the masks if you will. So, that is what always happens. You may not have noticed that between Duality and Psychosocial because it was still new to you, but those are two different albums and the whole band even looks way different between those two singles (Corey even lost a ton of weight and quit drinking between those albums). An interesting thing, to me (as someone who saw Slipknot live in concert on the release of this album and the year after) is even though these masks were new to this album, they updated them again fairly quickly (it was within a year that some of them changed their costumes again) long before the release of the most recent album. I believe Corey updated his whole costume quicker because the get up he had for this one was brutal and the concert I saw him in it was over 100 degrees and he eventually had to take the jacket off. But there's so many layers to this one- he waaayyy over designed it. I've never heard him say it, but if I had to guess he hated this costume after discovering that. The most recent one he has is much better both visually and if I had to guess more comfortable for him to perform in. More importantly, though, this album was the first time 3 original members were no longer in the band. I believe this was the first album without Joey (RIP), they didn't have Paul already for an album before this (RIP), and they fired Chris (who originally wore the very iconic for Slipknot long Nose mask and did back up vocals as well as percussion all the way back to their very first studio album). I think the visual filter you referred to probably is over the new members who at this point were brand spanking new and probably only seen at concerts up until this video came out. So maybe Shawn was using that as a visual introduction to them. I'm not sure... entirely. He's directed most (99%) of the bands videos since All Hope is Gone or so and he has a very interesting eye for visuals, but it's more artistic than it is necessarily logical. Especially on these last two albums.

If you want something really different from the Nine you should try Gently. It's basically a horror movie soundtrack, perfectly atmospheric and absolutely terrifying for first time listeners
