The song Til We Die hits even harder. Especially watching him hug and place his hand on the mask in the music video (most emotional music video) version of the song. Man. They’re both gone. Him parting ways with Paul before we had to part ways with him is just so hard to watch in that video.
Yea!! Joey will be my favorite drummer forever, and watching him I kinda forget that hes gone, Jay at least is doing a great job and has nothing to envy of Joey, he is the perfect replacement on Joeys abscence
I personally would recommend ''Before I Forget'' after this. It's one of the few if only song where they don't where their masks but their face is still obscured for the most part. It's a very visually entertaining music video ( in my opinion ) and they won a Grammy for it.
Man, I remember when I first discovered about their existence. In Brazil things like how to get infos about the bands were so much harder and all we had were magazines and CDs. What I mean is: we don't know how they look like without masks. When I first saw their music video of before I forget in the lan house it just blows me away in a fucking level I can't describe. All we want were to know how they look like, and this shit was the closer we could get at that time. This music video will always have a special place in my heart :)
Which is funny because I found that tidbit out because I found out fairly recently that basically pushing my fingers into my eyes helped the hellish migraine I'd been suffering. (they're a fucking curse)
The music video, directed by Mark Klasfeld and Tony Petrossian, cost between $300,000 and $500,000 and was recorded on March 27, 2004. It was shot in Des Moines, Iowa, at a fan's house that was due for renovation, and features the band performing inside the house surrounded by dozens of fans both inside and outside the house, which gets destroyed in the process as the fans crash through the windows and walls. In the aftermath, the family asked the band to replace an extensive list of objects and fittings that were damaged or destroyed during the shoot. Roadrunner Records provided the family with roughly $50,000 as compensation.Prior to filming, the production told the crowd only to act wild but not destroy the house; this rule was left unheeded. Midway through the shooting, the band and fans were asked to avoid jumping around too much, as it would have resulted in either the floor caving in or the entire house collapsing. Fans were also told to take extreme caution around Craig Jones as the nails in his mask may injure them. It was revealed later that the band had performed the song several times while the crowd vandalized the house, and the resulting footage was edited to produce the video. Shawn Crahan recalls that the band "asked our real fans to be in the video and people came from all over", adding that "it meant so much to us. We weren't really supposed to destroy that house - but we did it anyway. Another plus for that song is that I get to beat the fuck out of my keg. What else could you want?" One of the fans was a teenage British national who used some of his savings and his grandmother's money to travel to Iowa from England for the shoot and was accommodated by Corey Taylor after being denied a check-in at a local hotel due to his age. Two incidents occurred during the filming; two fans were injured by broken glass but were treated on the scene by paramedics stationed during filming and a doctor who lived in the neighborhood where the shoot occurred, while a group of youths were arrested by police present during filming for using baseball bats to vandalize a Ford Taurus rented by the band's record label to bring fans to the shoot's location.
There is always one of you kids on these reaction videos that have to go into detail about the music video! nobody cares that you're that far up There asses that you know that much detail about the video if anybody wanted to know they could Google it
My argument in Slipknot's favor is now the property is worth considerably more being the house this video was shot in. Duality is the #1 song on Apple music. The music video has over 350 million views on RUclips. Yes, they could cover the damage, but the actual value of the property would shoot up dramatically for being included.
Duality is the quality or character of being twofold; dichotomy. In this song, the singer hurts himself to relieve his pain, which shows that he will not let anyone rule him or destroy him. Lead singer Corey Taylor : "Did you ever get that headache that is just not going to go away, and you end up sticking your thumb and your middle fingers so far into your eyes just to stop the pain? It usually has to do with making a choice. you get to that point in everyday life that you have to make a decision that you may not want to, but your kind of pushed into making that decision." The video was shot in Iowa and featured a large group of Slipknot fans. Drummer Chris Fehn explains: "They had an audition I think at some hotel in Des Moines, and the kids lined up. It was funny, because there were people that totally weren't into the band but just wanted to go down there and see if they could get into the video and stuff. And they're like, 'No, dude, get outta here.' But that was cool. I guess some kids flew in from Europe and got in the video." This song was released as the first single from Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). One funny thing with this album - it contains almost zero profanity as a response to critics who said Corey Taylor relied on swearing in his lyrics.
Slipknot has always been about community and sharing each others pain. Their message has always been that no matter what you are going through you are not alone. And the fact that they always tackle heavy topics and are not afraid to say what is truly on their hearts is amazing. They promote togetherness while at the same time promoting individuality. Not to mention the lyrical genius that is Corey Taylor. Enjoy the ride. You will not be disappointed
That's why I love Clown's new shiny disco ball mask. He said in an interview he wants to reflect the shine back to everyone so he can shine with everyone together. Really a solid message.
I am sixty years old. I have been around since the hay day of metal and beyond and saw the greats play live! I want to say that there has NEVER been a metal band better than Slipnot. These guys are simply amazing.
67 and yes we saw the beginning of rock and roll evolve into rock into hard rock and then metal and all other forms heavy music . It was a long glorious ride . Be well fellow rocker .
That’s what metal is it’s a community that comes together to vent our pain, metal heads are some of the most compassionate and empathetic people on the planet!
Shawn and Corey's sons are in a band together called Vended which is really good. Corey's son is the vocalist and Shawn's is the drummer which is fitting.
To answer your question, yes each member chose the design of their own mask. On top of that they changed their masks for each album, its actually a pretty good way to be able to tell time frame for when the song came out.
Gotta check out slipknot live. Spit it out live at download 2009 (shows their energy and complete control of the crowd), the devil in I live (shows Corey Taylor's melodic yet powerful vocals) and Corey Taylor- snuff acoustic live (shows his vocal and emotional range)
"representing the fact that you are not alone" Exactly right, Slipknot have always been that burning, angry and unrelenting understanding and support. Theres interviews with members where they say that what they do is for everyone like them, that's been there and felt those feelings. Can't tell you how much this band means to all of us. when you see them live, it's like your family just grew by 1000s, and they've pulled me and many others back from the edge. Rest In Peace Joey and Paul, Gone but never forgotten!
Hi bisscute. My name is joe I am 70 years old.I have been listening to you for about 1 year. I had been in bad health for awhile now and I was not able to get you for some time but my son bought me a new phone a couple of days ago so I am back with you and I just wanted to let you know how much I love and appreciate your reactions. You make my day a great deal better. You are so sweet. Much ❤❤❤❤❤ to you.
This song pulled me in and Slipknot is one of my favorite bans because their music resonates with my soul. The energy of their songs is beautiful. Enjoy the ride into their world of music.
For me it's still the self-titled album and Iowa, those are their finest work and encapsulate what made Slipknot so unique and intense in the mainstream rock world in the first place.
They all picked their own masks/character. Some of them change drastically from one album cycle to the next (Corey Taylor the singer or Sid the DJ for example) others like Shawn aka Clown maintain the same character but just alter the look a bit. Then there's Mick and Jim, the two guitarists, who have never really changed their look much at all. This is probably my favorite of Corey Taylor's masks because it has that cool texas chainsaw massacre leatherface vibe, but apparently it was miserable to perform in.
This is metal in a nutshell. A worldwide community of people that are struggling with something and find on each other support and a sense of belonging. That's pretty emotional that you noticed that.
Your facial expressions reflect the intensity of this song hahaha, love it! I'm glad you gave the shot to this awesome song, keep it going Rachel! 🙌🏽 Pd: "I use my fingers to eat my FRIEEEEEEEEEES!"
I saw these guys live at Mayhem fest around 10 years ago. We already had a pause in thw show when Anthrax was on for a severe thunderstorm. But when Slipknot was playing it started raining again during this song!! Solid top 3 best show I've ever been too!!
"Dead Memories" is a Slipknot song that's very different from the rest. It has no "screams" and the vocals really show the melodic version of Corey Taylor (Slipknot's singer). You should give it a try. Also the lyrics and the music video are great and have a really cool meaning.
About your analysis of the video: Duality is about Corey's headache. During Iowa, everything was so intense that one day he couldn't even wake up. Then he immediatly started to think about his life and what he was doing, writing and the way he was singing. Then he decided to change. He changed the way he sang, what he wrote. He tried to write and sing more in a "esoterical" way. Then there is where Duality was born. "I push my fingers into my eyes, it's the only thing that slowly stops the ache". It's about headache and his past lifestyle (where past means just some months)
Each member does get to choose their own mask at the time of each album being made they have their own masks reflecting their passions their headspace their mindset of the songs and what's on the new album very interesting idea❤
Your interpretation of this song, regardless of its validity, is beautiful. I teared up a little listening to you talk about Corey's anguish and dark thoughts being so vibrant and visible that the people around him have flocked to him to make sure he knows he's not alone in this. I've been listening to this song for almost two decades, and from now on, this is how I'm going to hear it. Just wonderful.
Very cool you were able to dive into the individuality of slipknot and the different angles that they provide from each person's struggle. keep diving into them and you will keep learning new things from every single video. incredible band and incredible stories
the best thing about this song. is its meaning. it's only about a migraine headache Corey Taylor once had it hurts so bad. it made him want to push his fingers through his eyes. thus. the song was born
I remember when this album got released & music video dropped👌 "The Circle" & "Vermillion" are my other favorites. Definitely check out "My Plague" from the IOWA album KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, FEAR FACTORY, & FAITH NO MORE are some great bands to keep on your radar 👍
Hey Ray! Sweet reaction. Long time maggot here. Love this song and it represents the way that sometimes, to take the pain away you need to choose to take another pain just to distract yourself from the former. You should do "Vermillion" and "Vermillion part 2". I really think they are something special. Look forward to seeing more Slipknot on your channel! :)
my rough interpretation of the lyrics. the duality of not wanting to be blind to the truth of reality and its corruption. the truth hurts so bad you try to look away, to close your eyes, it helps ease the pain, but it always works its way inside, once your eyes are opened to the truth looking away is impossible. your stuck in duality wanting to know the truth but also wanting to escape from the pain it causes. the pain is maddening sometimes you just wanna give up, you feel powerless, you wish things were different, you wish you could change things, but you cannot kill what you did not create. all you have is your voice and all you can do is say what you see even though you know people wont like it. you don't know if you can take it anymore so you push your fingers into your eyes again to stop the ache, but it never ends, it works its way back inside. i love this song, i feel i can really relate to it.
I love how you're slowly becoming a SN fan, a maggot is being born! I took the message the same as you. It's such a good song. I also recommend you check out the band Stone Sour, it's the side project of Corey (the lead singer) and he's unmasked and he really flexes his voice and he's an amazing singer. I think the lead guitarist of SK is also with him. Definitely worth checking and I'm loving your vids. *subscribed 👍🏻*
Duality is the most iconic song of slipknot for me personally, this song opened the gateway for me to heavy metal when i was still a teanager - but as one gets older, the deeper you listen in to the lyrics and the meaning of it..... the more you find yourself relating to it.....more than you thought you ever would...
"It really feels like the band is pulling everyone to that house... like it's representing the fact that you are not alone." Yep, that pretty much nailed what Slipknot meant to me in my worst years.
Yeah that's about the right message - most heavy metal covers one or two emotions - grief, loss, anger, hatred, struggle, etc. Many people misunderstand the yelling as nonsensical, but it's always evocative of primal human emotions, always in relation to the lyrics being sung. The original members of Slipknot did pick their own masks, but whenever they have to replace a team member, they get a standard, basically featureless mask. They get to pick a more unique mask after they prove they're part of that little family.
This is and, will always be my favorite band of all time. The talent of the band memebers and the strong messages their songs always deliver, is second to none.
The lead singer Corey said he wrote the song about the migraines he was having. The “I push my fingers into my eyes it’s the only thing that slowly stops the ache” is talking about how putting pressure on the eyes can numb some of that pain. The way I interpret the music video is just as one big representation of what metal is for. It’s an outlet for aggression and negativity. I love the part where Corey stops the crowd for the build up just for them to come right back into it for the final chorus. It almost feels like a moment to collect all that negativity together for that final part of the song.
Paul… Joey… 😢😢… man…. Slipknot Is the first band where I felt a connection to them through their music… Metallica was the only other one but they were a little before my time and slipknot I had a deeper connection with when it comes to Their music…. Joey was the reason I started playing drums.. Joey is the reason I have a stable life right now. I know that sounds so crazy, But I looked up to Joey and his music, Slipknot’s music helped me push through the pains I struggled with in life as a teenager, Paul was a guy my buddy looked up to as well… me and my best friend Kyle looked up to these guys… Paul Grey passed away in 2010, May 24th… my best friend Kyle passed away July 7th 2016 from a drug overdose… The way you analyzed this song and music video was spot on in my opinion.. RIP Joey Jordison, RIP Paul Grey you guys will never get forgotten.. RIP Kyle O’Dell love ya buddy…
“The band is pulling everyone to that house, and mentions that if this pain goes on I’m not going to make it, and he’s giving the people the mic to let them speak, and the message is that is being shared is that sentiment” Paraphrased, for sure, but you f***in absolutely nailed it.. I grew up during the Iowa era of slipknot just before this, and also during the Vol. 3 Era, and you nailed it.. they were speaking to not only the hurt and pain that they felt; but also the pain that most of their fans grew up with during that time. That point in time was not easy to be a kid, we were faced with the first school shootings, 9/11, an economic downturn, the real start of the division of political parties, the steady decline of true freedom, and the end of musical expression that really reached us.. the late 90’s to early-mid 00’s were a hard time for us
If you want to see a different side of them, check out Vermillion (both parts), Corey's solo acoustic version of Snuff, or Corey's other project, Stone Sour.
Most of the masks change a little bit (or a lot) through out the albums, except Mick's [ 3:01 ] (one of the guitar players) They hit the jackpot right in the 2nd design so it barely changed since
Slipknot as other metal bands, is an outlet for people, they had been there for me through tough times, even thou is no longer the genre I hear the most, there was a time that this was relieving my soul :).
Every member of Slipknot changed their masks every album cycle but both guitarist Mick Thomson and Jim Root masks don’t changed usually it’s minor changes. Their are nine members of slipknot starting with number 0-8. Lead Vocalist Cory Taylor #8, Lead/Rhythm guitarist Jim Root #4, Lead/Rhythm guitarist Mick Thomson #7, Bassist Paul Gray #2 1972-2010, Paul Gray passed away on May 24th of 2010 he was only 38 years old. Paul Gray plays bass guitar on the first four slipknot albums. Drums Joey Jordison #1 1975-2021 Joey Passed away on July 26th 2021 passed away in his sleep is was only 46 years old, Joey plays drums on the first four slipknot albums, Joey left slipknot in 2013 due to a medical issue suffering from acute transverse myelitis. Its symptoms started in 2010 while touring with his other band Murderdolls, but the disease was diagnosed long after. This progressed to the loss use of his left leg. The neurological disease had temporarily cost him the use of his legs and caused him to be unable to play the drums before rehabilitation. He recovered with the aid of medical help and physical therapy. Percussionist and backing vocalist Chris Fehn #3 Chris left the band in 2019, Chris’s mask has a long nose like Pinocchio. Percussionist/backing vocalist Shawn Crahan #6 A.K.A. Clown because he wears a clown mask. Sampler/synthesizer and keyboardist Craig Jones #5 Craig mask is black with long needles pointing out if it. Craig never talks, he doesn’t talk to media/interviews, he even doesn’t talk to other members of the band. Vocalist Cory Taylor said in a interview the reason why Craig doesn’t talk is because that who he is, a guy that can speak but doesn’t, Cory Taylor also said this when Craig does talk it’s scary because he will be right behind you and you don’t even know he’s their and Cory said when Craig speaks you listen and the band gave him the nickname the quiet one. DJ/Turntables Sid Wilson #0. New Slipknot Members are new bassist Alessandro Venturella nickname V-man he replaced Paul Grey on bass Alessandro joined the band in 2014 on Slipknot 5th album .5 the Gray chapter. New drummer Jay Weinberg replaced drummer Joey Jordison, Jay Weinberg Joined the band in 2014 also on the band 5th album. Michael Plaff nickname Tortilla man because his mask looks like a melted/burn tortilla he replaced Chris Fehn on Percussion and backing vocals, Michael Plaff joined the band in 2019 on the band’s 6th album we are not your kind. The three new Slipknot members don’t have numbers.
watching your SlipKnot reacts is brining back memories, first got my hands on the Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat cd-rip back in middle school then the first official album, seen them so many times its crazy, can still feel the heat from the pyros during Heretic Anthem, and remember seeing them in 2001 when Sid climbed the stacks and jumped in the crowed kicked me in the face and turned around and decked him, great damn memories
I discovered your channel today and it must be the tenth video in a row that I'm watching, it's beautiful to see all your joy and excitement listening to new music and styles. The love for music is really amazing! This Brazilian fan thanks you for your content and love for music ❤️
This video actually is a good metaphor for heavy metal in general. In the beginning, metal was for the "outcasts" and "stoners" and the girls who cut themselves. Basically societies "rejects". I was one. And one day, when I thought I was alone I met a group of people who were like me. And I realized I have brothers and sisters everywhere. And the most interesting thing is a lot of people misjudge metal heads in many ways, but mainly as being aggressive and possibly dangerous. Nothing could be further from the truth. Metal is not just music, but a type of therapy and definitely a tight knit family! Rock On Sister! \m/
I could be wrong in this, but I believe I read somewhere that this song is also about migraines. I think I read that Corey Taylor suffered migraines and Duality takes what he was feeling during those migraines and put them into a song. I myself suffer with migraines and the pain can sometimes be unimagnable and unbearable. "I push my fingers into my eyes, it slowly stops the ache." This iyric alone is actually true, sometimes you can have a migraine so bad that pushing your fingers into your eyes is the only relief you get and it does help the ache. Could be wrong here, would be great to get confirmation from someone else, but I believe I did read this before.
I will continue to bring this up but, the house this video is shot at is the first kid shown's home. This was during a time where music centric channels would hold fan sweepstakes, that 1 lucky winner could have the band show up and play in their town. In this case, the kid first shown, chose his house. Fans swarmed the area as well as friends and "Friends". They demolished that house. From what I remember, or I'm more assuming really, the kids parents were going to remodel at some point, but didn't realize what was going to happen.
This was actually my first slipknot song. This song here made me realize how fake I was and that I wasn't being myself and that i was just a huge poser. It changed my life and made me into a metalhead. Slipknot has been my favorite band since. R.I.P. Paul and Joey. Long live the Knot
my rough interpretation of the lyrics. the duality of not wanting to be blind to the truth of reality and its corruption. the truth hurts so bad you try to look away, to close your eyes, it helps ease the pain, but it always works its way inside, once your eyes are opened to the truth looking away is impossible. your stuck in duality wanting to know the truth but also wanting to escape from the pain it causes. the pain is maddening sometimes you just wanna give up, you feel powerless, you wish things were different, you wish you could change things, but you cannot kill what you did not create. all you have is your voice and all you can do is say what you see even though you know people wont like it. you don't know if you can take it anymore so you push your fingers into your eyes again to stop the ache, but it never ends, it works its way back inside. i love this song, i feel i can really relate to it.
Good job. The song is about hopelessness. And so the video drawing people that feel the same way to the house is an excellent observation. I never even though about that part. If you read the song lyrics though it somehow makes the song hit harder. But thats Slipknot for ya, they do that allot.
I am going to speak from an anthropological perspective: That moment where the fans stand still only with a raised hand from the singer is an extraordinary example of reverence. For a few seconds, the entirety of Slipknot were gods.
I think your interpretation of the video is great. Slipknot acts as something that brings people together. In simple terms. Add the lyrics on top of that and I feel like it's almost a tribute to all the Maggots out there. Recognizing that people go through things in life that make them feel the way the lyrics portray.
I think this song has philosophical and psychological depth to it. I know it's an old song, but I've always heard the lyrics as an outlet from the perspective of someone fighting with and eventually assimilating with their "Shadow". The shadow being repressed feelings and/ or darkness within your psyche.
Basically Everyone In slipknot gets their take on their mask, all the creativity is in their hands, when V-Man Tortilla man and Jay Weinberg all joined the band they were given basic masks and then they were able to do what they wanted with the masks after a while, most members will get a new mask almost every album cycle exceptions being Jim and Mick they have been very subtle to make changes to their masks
Way I interpret: He's causing pain to himself "pushing fingers into his eyes" to lessen another pain, which is an ache, very likely a headache or migraine that is maddening "if the pain goes on I'm not gonna make it". And the house being destroyed all around them being his Head, and the people rushing in an breaking everything is the migraine. Pain can be intense, make you feel like you're going insane if it lasts long enough, and it will get you to do things that will likely cause more damage but to you is more bearable than the other pain. Basically a song about self-destruction in order to mitigate an unbearable pain. I have intense gut pains and they tend to radiate to my back, and the only way I've found to mitigate the pain is sitting in front of a heater for a dozen plus hours. Do it enough and I got 2nd degree burns an blisters on my back. And sure, not good. But the other pain is far more unbearable than simple burns. Done it enough to where my back has burnt skin and once again, the other pain is far worse than the burns.
Just finding your channel, and so far, loving everything you've done!!! So, it's funny you said about the fans being drawn to that house, as if they are not alone... Slipknot fans, lovingly known as "maggots" are some of the most loyal in metal. Slipknot has always looked at their music as a form of healing. Everyone in the band is broken, and most people are broken... and when you listen to Slipknot, you are NOT alone. Going to a Slipknot show is also the same. There is catharsis in angry music. The more you look, the more you'll find.... but I warn you.. .Just like Avenged Sevenfold... they have lost some members along the way... Anyway, Keep doing what you're doing Rachel. Love your channel!!!
Love your reaction, this little whisper at the end of the song 😉. Well if you want to watch some others video from slipknot "The devil in I" is quite hard, and "Unsainted" is beautiful (it is my opinion). Anyway, Slipknot has a complete vision of its art and it is why this band is so incredible. I'm not a huge fan but i really like them and their creativity. If you're discovering them, enjoy!
Yes, they all get to decide on the design of their masks, as abstract or direct, or surreal as they want them to be and although Shawn started it they have all been wearing them since before the release of their first album. I have seen them live so many times even as far back the infamous "orange jumpsuits". They used to make the masks themselves but the most recent versions were co-created by famed special effects master, monster creator, and horror legend, Tom Savini.
I’ve gone to Slipknot live concert like two years ago and trust me Live that music hits 100 times better and Sid(DJ) dropping the bass makes the ground Shake literally
As aparições do Sid durante o clip é genial, quase como um easter egg. Eu acho esse vídeo magnifico pelo fato das pessoas serem realmente fãs da banda, a história por traz dessa gravação é perfeita.
I have fallen in love with the reactions on this channel. I only recently got into listening to Slipknot myself as my current favourite band; Muse happened to mention them in an interview so I decided to check them out and was instantly hooked. I highly recommend you react to a Muse song and to start off I would recommend "Plug in Baby". Keep up the good work.
The message you got from it is definitely the message they were sending, we are one. Slipknot ised to call there fans maggots because they gather as a family
This was filmed at the bands friends house and they did $40,000 Damage. Slipknot paid for all repairs😮 the members made their own masks originally not sure if they still do.
Hey Rachel, yes every member gets to make their own mask and several of the long time members have made new masks throughout the years. Corey Taylor has had several masks, seems like he always has a new one on!
Please google the story behind the "renovation" of the house on the video. It's metal, but it shows how the band treats their fans and it is really wholesome.
Watching this video and seeing Paul and Joey brings tears to my eyes. They are sorely missed. RIP
Was thinking the same thing.
The song Til We Die hits even harder. Especially watching him hug and place his hand on the mask in the music video (most emotional music video) version of the song. Man. They’re both gone. Him parting ways with Paul before we had to part ways with him is just so hard to watch in that video.
I have the exact same thought every single time I see or hear the old avenged sevenfold stuff with jimmy as well. All deeply missed.
Yea!! Joey will be my favorite drummer forever, and watching him I kinda forget that hes gone, Jay at least is doing a great job and has nothing to envy of Joey, he is the perfect replacement on Joeys abscence
R.I.P
I personally would recommend ''Before I Forget'' after this. It's one of the few if only song where they don't where their masks but their face is still obscured for the most part. It's a very visually entertaining music video ( in my opinion ) and they won a Grammy for it.
Seconded. It's an _amazing_ song, too.
Man, I remember when I first discovered about their existence. In Brazil things like how to get infos about the bands were so much harder and all we had were magazines and CDs. song is great too one of my fav, but that goes for whole Vol. 3: The Subliminal verses
Agreed and then "all hope is gone " song
Yes, each member chooses his own mask. They change/update their masks for every new album to reflect their headspace at that time
Well unless your Mick then you basically have the same thing every album lol
@@Count_Jacula came to say, Mick's headspace hasn't changed since Vol. 3.
@@Count_Jacula Right 🤣 even my sister who never listened to them noticed his never changes
@@Count_Jacula craig aswell
Mick and Craig's headspaces are both "leave me alone."
the fact that slipknot paid the owner of the house enough money to get a new one so they could shoot there is crazy.
Corey use to suffer from chronic migraines and this speaks about that
Which is funny because I found that tidbit out because I found out fairly recently that basically pushing my fingers into my eyes helped the hellish migraine I'd been suffering. (they're a fucking curse)
One of their most misunderstood lyrics imo. Being someone who also has to deal with chronic migraines, makes this song very cathartic
@@dekuscrub7423 i have migraines too and its so ironic that making your eyes hurts calm the pain
Been a fan of Slipknot for 23 years. Proud to be called one of their Maggots throughout the years. Keep Rocking !! 🤘
@@Lonewolf477-v7c Hey brotha! Good for you.
There is always one of you kids on these reaction videos that have to go into detail about the music video! nobody cares that you're that far up There asses that you know that much detail about the video if anybody wanted to know they could Google it
That is really interesting and I love how they included the fans! 🫂
It is true ❤❤❤
My argument in Slipknot's favor is now the property is worth considerably more being the house this video was shot in.
Duality is the #1 song on Apple music. The music video has over 350 million views on RUclips.
Yes, they could cover the damage, but the actual value of the property would shoot up dramatically for being included.
So much this. Absolute LEGEND of a video. The rawest fucking emotion you'll see.
Duality is the quality or character of being twofold; dichotomy.
In this song, the singer hurts himself to relieve his pain, which shows that he will not let anyone rule him or destroy him.
Lead singer Corey Taylor :
"Did you ever get that headache that is just not going to go away, and you end up sticking your thumb and your middle fingers so far into your eyes just to stop the pain? It usually has to do with making a choice. you get to that point in everyday life that you have to make a decision that you may not want to, but your kind of pushed into making that decision."
The video was shot in Iowa and featured a large group of Slipknot fans. I guess some kids flew in from Europe and got in the video."
This song was released as the first single from Vol.
Agreed
67 and yes we saw the beginning of rock and roll evolve into rock into hard rock and then metal and all other forms heavy music . It was a long glorious ride . Be well fellow rocker .
I just "love" declarative statements like this. 😂😂😂😂
Umm acdc led Zeppelin motorhead
That’s what metal is it’s a community that comes together to vent our pain, metal heads are some of the most compassionate and empathetic people on the planet!
Shawn and Corey's sons are in a band together called Vended which is really good. Corey's son is the vocalist and Shawn's is the drummer which is fitting.
it is scary how much Griffin sounds like Corey
@@stevenzwiesler8085 gotta make use of those OP genetics
To answer your question, yes each member chose the design of their own mask. On top of that they changed their masks for each album, its actually a pretty good way to be able to tell time frame for when the song came out.
Gotta check out slipknot live. Spit it out live at download 2009 (shows their energy and complete control of the crowd), the devil in I live (shows Corey Taylor's melodic yet powerful vocals) and Corey Taylor- snuff acoustic live (shows his vocal and emotional range)
‘Snuff’ live with just Corey and his acoustic guitar is one of my favorite performances of all-time
Incredible live, I was at Download this year and got to see them, its an EXPERIENCE!
My personal favorite Corey Taylor mask is the Gray Chapter mask
They picked their numbers too
Yeah this was my favorite mask for Corey too. The whole overall look he had at this time...there's just something about it.
Pd: "I use my fingers to eat my FRIEEEEEEEEEES!"
"its the only way to stop my tommy aches, if the pain goes on...IM NOT GONNA MAKE IT"
PUT YOUR FINGER TO MY...BAAAAAAALLLLLSSSS!!!!....😝😝😝🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
I saw these guys live at Mayhem fest around 10 years ago. We already had a pause in thw show when Anthrax was on for a severe thunderstorm. But when Slipknot was playing it started raining again during this song!! Solid top 3 best show I've ever been too!!
"Dead Memories" is a Slipknot song that's very different from the rest. It has no "screams" and the vocals really show the melodic version of Corey Taylor (Slipknot's singer). You should give it a try. Also the lyrics and the music video are great and have a really cool meaning.
I watched SlipKont perform last Sunday and when you hear around 100,000 people sing in solidarity to Duality it's an experience that i want to repeat
About your analysis of the video:
Duality is about Corey's headache.
This closed their show at the Manchester Arena in 2020..the f**king roof came off and I could have flown out with it. Such a phenomenal band.
I would definitely reccomend listening to the dying song next
1:00 - THAT is exactly every drummers reaction to the "Snare" :D

good job for this video doe 🤘
I remember when this album got released & music video dropped👌 "The Circle" & "Vermillion" are my other favorites. Definitely check out "My Plague" from the IOWA album
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, FEAR FACTORY, & FAITH NO MORE are some great bands to keep on your radar 👍
I was introduced to Slipknot a few years before this album dropped I remember it well lol
Craziest band I've ever seen live! Stage diving off 40ft tall speakers, drummer throwing his sticks and then using his head!
I got into slipknot back in 2008 when all hope is gone came out. Ever since I've seen them live 8 times. One of my favorite bands ever 🙏
I’m grateful to be a part of a group of “maggots” who have seen the original line up with Joey and Paul

Duality is the most iconic song of slipknot for me personally, this song opened the gateway for me to heavy metal when i was still a teanager - but as one gets older, the deeper you listen in to the lyrics and the meaning of it..... the more you find yourself relating to it.....more than you thought you ever would...
Slipknot has one of the most devoted fan base ever I love it and they are so amazing hope to see them live one day
"It really feels like the band is pulling everyone to that house... like it's representing the fact that you are not alone."
Yep, that pretty much nailed what Slipknot meant to me in my worst years.
Love this song so much! Great reaction :)
I've watched this music video many times and I never thought of it like being alone and them gathering to be with the band. That's a great take!
Only band out there that uses a keg as a musical instrument
I like the fact that you watch so many iconic horror movies like Pan's Labyrinth, Halloween, etc. and using them as reference. Subscribed!
Paul… Joey… 😢😢… man…. Slipknot
Is the first band where I felt a connection to them through their music… Metallica was the only other one but they were a little before my time and slipknot I had a deeper connection with when it comes to
Their music…. Joey was the reason I started playing drums.. Joey is the reason I have a stable life right now. I know that sounds so crazy, But I looked up to Joey and his music, Slipknot’s music helped me push through the pains I struggled with in life as a teenager, Paul was a guy my buddy looked up to as well… me and my best friend Kyle looked up to these guys… Paul Grey passed away in 2010, May 24th… my best friend Kyle passed away July 7th 2016 from a drug overdose…
The way you analyzed this song and music video was spot on in my opinion..
RIP Joey Jordison, RIP Paul Grey you guys will never get forgotten..
RIP Kyle O’Dell love ya buddy…
“The band is pulling everyone to that house, and mentions that if this pain goes on I’m not going to make it, and he’s giving the people the mic to let them speak, and the message is that is being shared is that sentiment”
Paraphrased, for sure, but you f***in absolutely nailed it..
Slipknot "The devil in I " awesome video and song, super clear vocals, you'll love it.
Most of the masks change a little bit (or a lot) through out the albums, except Mick's [ 3:01 ] (one of the guitar players)
They hit the jackpot right in the 2nd design so it barely changed since
Slipknot as other metal bands, is an outlet for people, they had been there for me through tough times, even thou is no longer the genre I hear the most, there was a time that this was relieving my soul :).
Love the intensity of this song! Incredible band.
watching your SlipKnot reacts is brining back memories, first got my hands on the Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat cd-rip back in middle school then the first official album, seen them so many times its crazy, can still feel the heat from the pyros during Heretic Anthem, and remember seeing them in 2001 when Sid climbed the stacks and jumped in the crowed kicked me in the face and turned around and decked him, great damn memories
I discovered your channel today and it must be the tenth video in a row that I'm watching, it's beautiful to see all your joy and excitement listening to new music and styles. The love for music is really amazing! This Brazilian fan thanks you for your content and love for music ❤️
This song has my favorite Joey drum-break EVER!!! Also, they love their misfits.
Love Slipknot, this video still cracks me up, all the 90s teen angst comes through that house like a white boy zombie horde.
Nah you pretty much nailed it, slipknot is basically about unity thru the struggle of life.
The song is actually about migraines, which the singer Corey Taylor suffers. As one who suffers regular migraines I can relate 😆
You are so spot on with the video. Metal has such a great community.
i love this song, phycho social and wait and bleed especially. wait and bleed was my introduction to slipknot as a teen. loved them ever since.
I’ve been waiting for this reaction. Great insight
You were spot on with the message. That said, Slipknot is very important to a lot of people. Thank you.
Finally someone reacts to this jewel of music and not just to the masks or the video. congratulations
Great reaction. Short, simple, feels real. Continue with the good work.
Good job. The song is about hopelessness. And so the video drawing people that feel the same way to the house is an excellent observation. I never even though about that part. If you read the song lyrics though it somehow makes the song hit harder. But thats Slipknot for ya, they do that allot.
I am going to speak from an anthropological perspective:
That moment where the fans stand still only with a raised hand from the singer is an extraordinary example of reverence.
For a few seconds, the entirety of Slipknot were gods.
you would think, given the style of music, that his voice would be raspy and growly, but its so clear all the time
I think your interpretation of the video is great.
A good one to react to is Slipknot's "The Devil in I"
Everything about this song and video is metal af, and I've loved it since the day I saw it 19 years ago.
RIP Joey Jordison
RIP Paul and Joey. I was so honored to see you both live several times.
the O'Keefe Music Foundation did a cover of this with some aspiring kids who put some serious effort in , and its just as well done as the original.
The masks keep changing from album to album. Still duality is one of my fav songs of them. It's timeless.
I’ve gone to Slipknot live concert like two years ago and trust me Live that music hits 100 times better and Sid(DJ) dropping the bass makes the ground Shake literally
she loves metal, you can see it on her face and a moment later and she will be metalhead ;D
As aparições do Sid durante o clip é genial, quase como um easter egg. Eu acho esse vídeo magnifico pelo fato das pessoas serem realmente fãs da banda, a história por traz dessa gravação é perfeita.
Um br kkkk

I have fallen in love with the reactions on this channel. I only recently got into listening to Slipknot myself as my current favourite band; Muse happened to mention them in an interview so I decided to check them out and was instantly hooked. I highly recommend you react to a Muse song and to start off I would recommend "Plug in Baby". Keep up the good work.
The message you got from it is definitely the message they were sending, we are one. Slipknot ised to call there fans maggots because they gather as a family
you should really listen to corey taylor (the leadsinger) when he makes an acoustic cover of their song snuff, most beautiful song i have ever heard
Another enjoyable reaction and always so cute I love your laugh and smile
Thank you! 🫂
Please google the story behind the "renovation" of the house on the video. It's metal, but it shows how the band treats their fans and it is really wholesome.
Unique band with legendary sound and lyrics! 🤘❤🦇🦇🦇🦇
