So to sum up the ending of MHA: - Literally saves the world in exchange for his powers. - Gets no fame, no love interest, nothing. Even though there was a perfect moment in the last chapters for a ship to sail but no. - Completely drops out of becoming a hero after losing his powers. Does not bother training, learning martial arts, getting high tech gear, nothing. - Becomes a teacher out of nowhere. Japan sees the position of a teacher as a pretty well respected job, but there is still no build up as to why would he ever become one. - His supposed friends disappear from his life completely, to the point where his old teacher had to meet up with him and show him what they are up to these days via pictures. - Out of nowhere gets a high tech suit handed to him on a silver platter apparently funded by his old friends and his gay love- I mean good platonic friend. This kid literally won't bother with his supposed "dream" unless it's handed to him for free, it was like that in the beginning of the series, and it is like this at the end of it. To be honest, by basically telling us that Izuku spent _eight years_ as a regular old Teacher up until he was given the Suit out of _pity,_ to which he abandoned being a Teacher and went out to fight crime in his Iron Man Suit... Really doesn't feel like it is a good lesson _or_ ending. "Because he's _Technically_ in a Good Position", doesn't mean he Is _ACTUALLY_ in a Good position... The fact that he Ditched being a Teacher the second he got an Iron Man Suit, is _VERY_ telling. And to be frank, I lost interest thanks to all the ending fatique... Where they just kept dragging All for One Back into the spotlight again and again and again until Izuku had to sacrifice his quirk... Yeah, _real nice_ way to bring in more readers!
Our biggest complaint is not that he lost his quirk. It is that after losing his quirk, he just gave up on his dream of being a hero thus contradicting the message of the entire manga.
Quite frankly, the message was contradicted in the first chapter. All Might gives this whole speech about how Izuku can't be a Pro Hero, that he can be heroic in other ways, such as being a firefighter or something, but the story makes it out like he's wrong for saying so. At the end of the chapter he goes "You can be a Hero!", as if setting up the theme that anybody can be a Hero, but in reality it's only after receiving this completely unique opportunity to be given a super powerful quirk that he can. All Might's downer speech, quite frankly, was still true, and remains true even through the end of the manga. Being heroic doesn't require a quirk, and all those other jobs All Might listed are plenty heroic even without needing a quirk, but the job that is being a Pro Hero, involving fighting powered villains and the likes, very much does require a powerful quirk, and saying otherwise is reckless at best and child endangerment at worst.

Serials just suck for a reason. It's actually baffling when one manages to not have a terrible ending. Like the curse of TV seasons to give another example. The best you can hope for is a good thing remains niche and wraps it up early; if it becomes successful they'll just tread water for endless seasons of no meaning, then shit out a terrible ending.
I'm not part of the fandom and I didn't really keep up with it for a while, but in my opinion, the ending was bad for two main reasons. One is that the story literally begins with "I was born without superpowers, and yet, this is a story of how I became world's greatest hero" and it fulfills that very "technically". Like yeah, he was the greatest hero for a moment and did save the world, but that's not the ending, the ending is him being back to regular Joe. But the biggest damn issue is the fact how much of the early story, when it got popular, was about his struggles and straight up trauma of being a quirkless kid and still hanging onto his dream. Just remember the whole scene of little Deku with tears in his eyes rewatching the Allmight clip and asking his mom "I can still be a hero, right?" only for her to break down into crying and apologizing to her son - yeah THAT is the conclusion here, she was correct there, you CANNOT pursue your dream if you were not born with the skill for it. His entire drive, his desire for his dream, all that knowledge he accumulated in the end is only good to teach people born with talent. The fact that someone else has to give him a suit is ridiculous, he should've been Batmanning it already.
Deku becoming another powerless superhero would be a cool story, since most powerless superheroes like batman and iron man have other skills to make up for not having powers Midoriya has knowledge on how quirks are used so he could implement that to his suit
Well to be fair.. he wanted to end it after the 1st year… and then after the 2nd year… and so on. he was basically forced to keep going until im sure all his better idea wouldn’t work. Same thing happened to bleach, and Naruto.

Honestly, this ending has taught me one thing: If your plan for a romantic subplot is to introduce the main potential pairing, spend a sizeable part of the series dropping huge hints that they both may like each other, never suggest any other alternative pairing concerning one or both characters, understandably not focus too much on it as it's mainly an action-oriented series, make it a big part of one of the two's character arc the fact they accept their feelings for the other instead of repressing them, finally give the two the chance right before the end to talk eye to eye and if not outright confirm the romance (as it's a really bad time for both of them) at least have them take one step closer to a confirmation, fumble the bag at the last second and then just end the series with zero confirmation of anything except some infuriatingly small hints to "leave things open to interpretation", then why the hell even bother with introducing said romance in the first place? Yeah. Okay, to be honest I don't really have any real problems with this ending but I'm just a little salty about this in particular. Not even that much but come on Edit: okay her character arc was more about learning not to repress her feelings *in general* but yeah

More like one gold medal. We don’t call Michael Jordan the greatest because he played one super season, but because his entire career is amazing, so the story trying to say Deku is revered by all (especially since he basically operated in Japan exclusively compared to all might) doesn’t stick. But I think in Japan, high school is seen as the last chance to be “free”. But if a story was going to be like reality, why bait the reader into believing he could be more and do more in the future. It’s not a life story you tell to children to inspire or teach a lesson, it’s a gimmick story of a section of your life you tell to people at the bar to make them like you .
Yeah, I realized that about deku a little bit before the manga ended Trying to make a mha fanfic, only to realize that Izuku doesn’t have much of a personality besides his societies views of heroism was interesting. Also explains why I was never foaming at the mouth when Izuku experienced trauma ( I fucking love angsty shit like that with all sorts of MCs ) cuz well… it doesn’t ever sink in too deeply. I thought the message was that you don't need to have innate talent if you have a powerful friend that is willing to give you a break (and are willing to work your ass off once you get it). I can't tell if that's a nepotism thing or a power of friendship thing. Both? Neither? Point is, we lost the chance to get an uncorrupted aesop the moment his original concept for the series was shut down by the suits.
@@irregulargamer1352 Dear, Deku I'm sorry that that man is your father, let me be honest It takes a man to be a man, your dad is not responsive I look at him and wish your grandpa would've wore a condom
@@Blue_Salamander8Deku is literally something of a Harvard teacher after the time-skip, how is that "nothing". He's literally guiding and inspiring new heroes.
@@smittyrodriguez The hero work the teachers do on the side pays, I doubt the teaching itself pays as much. Everyone in his class is making twice his income at least. He is not a Harvard teacher, he is a high school teacher. And he didnt even go to university on top of not working as a hero so his salary will be very small. Basically a pity hire.
People keep saying he is now Ironman, but not even that. Ironman is a millionaire genius who makes his own suits to meet his needs. Deku is actually War-Machine, the government lapdog getting a handout
At least rodhey was a badass soldier before getting the armor, Deku was some bully's punching bag with no friends for years before getting one for all and All Might still had to train this slob, and his mom had to train this slob.
Take away the suits and James Rhodes is a Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force. Izuku Midoriya is a school teacher. War Machines way better then Deku
Look, I’m glad Horikoshi stuck to Deku losing his powers (as obvious as that was in the story) but he should’ve still gotten the recognition. He could’ve even kept the same scenes in the final chapters, just with him being hounded by fan girls like Bakugo and Todoroki or having all of his students at UA asking him about his fight with All for One, with him echoing the line “this is the story of how we became the #1 hero” or something like that. Even if it’s another stereotype it shows why Deku is the narrator (though that doesn’t NEED an explanation). Also with the Uraraka and Deku ship he literally set up the perfect scene for a natural conclusion. Deku runs up to Uraraka who’s (spoiler) struggling with taking Togas life and Deku consoles her. All horikoshi had to do was have Uraraka mentally admit her feelings since Deku was always there for her (remember he saved her from the robot in the test and she saved him from the fall) and everything else could occur as it did with Chekhov’s gun satisfied. Maybe have that one mini panel in the final chapter where Uraraka and Deku are walking together seem more date like or have a ring be on his finger after the time skip. We don’t need some passionate kiss, but there should of been something to give closure on their relationship. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Edit: wow didn’t expect so many people to agree with my thoughts. I know I just pointed out how the ending could’ve been better with minor changes, but if you would allow me to I want to get on a soapbox here to address something I’ve been seeing in the comments. I doubt that Horikoshi would worsen his own ending just to get back at some obsessive fans. There definitely can be personal factors, however we should cut him some slack what with the workload mangakas tend to experience. There’s always gonna be fatigue and strategizing over what is favored. Could he have written one more chapter to make sure all these loose ends get tied up? Sure, but he was prolly under some pressure to end soon by editors or maybe just got too worn out of writing. Could he have included all the fine details like the stuff I mentioned? Sure, but he will still have a more successful story than anything I could’ve made and he probably won’t see all the different ways he could’ve taken the ending until after it’s published. You never know which path is the shortest until your at the end. Was this a bad ending? No, but it wasn’t a great one either and that’s probably due to the disconnect between the readers and the overarching lessons. One of the lessons of MHA was every villain was a victim of circumstance out of their control. (Spoilers) So for the lesson it makes sense that even All for One would have some sad reason as to why he does the things he does with Horikoshi stating it was that he was lonely. Now take us the reader, we live in a world where the entertainment market is oversaturated with villains we can empathize with. So for us, we want an irredeemable monster as a big bad as seen with movies like Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 which gave us the high evolutionary and people loved him because he was so hate-able. These 2 factors resulted in the ending of the final battle being kinda out of touch. The biggest factor though was that the endings purpose was to give closure on our villains, not our hero’s. Horikoshi, whether he realizes it or not, couldn’t have his cake and eat it to. I know I said that Uraraka could mentally confess her love for Deku, however it would be difficult to pull off and would likely have resulted in tonal whiplash since it would be weird to suddenly act like your not traumatized just because you like a boy. As for deku not getting praised, it would completely undermine the meaning of what Stain said if he started giving into the praise and no way anyone but the hero’s could understand the plight of the villains. Lastly while yes Deku did become a teacher that really was the best job for his character since he couldn’t be a hero, but he could still mold the future generation as All Might did for him. So what’s my point here then. Is it to undermine everything I said? Is it to convince you that Horikoshi is actually a literary genius? Is it to that MHA fans need to stop pretending their fanfics are canon? No (well maybe not the last part), my point is that given more time I’m sure Horikoshi could’ve given us a better ending, but likely due to some circumstances and writing himself into corners without realizing it he couldn’t so he chose themes over characters and it doesn’t ruin the series because of it. No one is perfect and we shouldn’t be threatening or demeaning someone because they didn’t do everything just how we wanted. Whether you like it or not, he still wrote an incredibly successful series and what more could he ask for. I shall now step down from my soap box.
The best to introduce him in the timeskip is him bodying a whole class with a cheap ass support tool in a sparring session. The story introduced the pro hero teachers by their scene presence and their quirk demonstrating what they can do. That establishes that Deku is still recognized and still got the skills as a pro hero.
good endings are for pu$$!3$. gone are the days of Naruto becoming a Hokage and marrying the girl. now your main guy you stuck with for almost a decade gets cuqed and ends up with a mid job.
So, I’m posting this here because this is where I found out about the ending of MHA. And I had a thought as to how the ending could’ve been better. Why didn’t Deku go into Quirk analysis. It was a skill set up in the very first episode with him analyzing Mt. Lady during her debut. And we see him use it throughout the series (figuring out Todoroki’s quirk weakness, Stain’s quirk and weakness in one encounter, and coming close to countering Mirio just to name a few instances). Opening an Analysis Agency to help heroes find gaps in their quirks and help police detain up and coming villains would be a massive help in Hero Society. And he would still be in contact with all of his friends and classmates. Additionally, isn’t that a better message than “no powers/money, no future” that we got? That sometimes the dreams we strive for are unattainable/fleeting, but sometimes you can follow your dreams in unorthodox ways using your own natural talents? Following a path parallel to your dreams that you can accomplish? As for the romantic subplot, I’ll leave that to people who have read the series past the anime seasons. But after hearing that they all abandoned Deku, I’m putting my money on Lady Nagant. At least she’d understand what it’s like to be thrown away.
Think this might be one of those things where the manga creator just wanted to finally end the manga and then move on to something else with their life.
I think an ending that would have been cool is Deku still loses his powers but instead of becoming a teacher for aspiring heros he becomes a social worker working with troubled kids. He is able to "defeat bad guys" by turning their lives around before they walk down the wrong path. It's a different type of hero that doesnt require any super powers. It makes sense thematically, imo.
Stopping Shigarakis before they go down the wrong path. Saving the world and the kids at the same time. Also fits perfectly with his character like how he had helped Todoroki at the Sport’s Festival.
One day, when Deku was working in KFC, he ran out of chicken wings, and he thought, "It's a pity that the chicken wings are over, well, let the others fry the chicken, and I'll go cook the potatoes." As the All Might arrives from America and gives Deku a chicken with the words "My boy, my class and I have been saving up for chicken for 10 years, so follow your vocation and fry it! You deserve it!"
The ending would have been better if Deku was building the suit by himself during those 8 years, instead of recieving it from his friends as a compensation gift
Gohan got the hot wife he wanted, became ultra rich in the process, a family, and got the job he always wanted while still retaining the ability to become broken as fuck within a day of training. It is completely different.

Thank goodness I dropped this manga a few chapters in. It became too shonen for me, dilluting its message. Sad to see I was right.
@yewchungREMIX kind of reminds me of Naruto. Where Naruto is literally born with legendary parents, and has the Nine tails fox to give him an advantage with extra Chakra

When I'm in a shitty ending competition and my opponent is the mangaka of an extremely popular and long-running series
Honestly i like one piece, but it having a terrible ending would be way too funny for me not to root for it.
It's baffling to me how my hero academia is the easiest ending to write and still fuck it up. It goes to show you how much crap horikoshi has gotten😂
@@mahoganydoughnut6082BNHA STARTED during the Dressrosa arc, there's no fuckin way Oda is fumbling the ending, he's spent way too long for Luffy to give up and become a bartender or some shit
Luffy gonna go from getting the one piece to getting the ten piece chicken nuggets for your order 😭

That’s what surprised me too. Why did it take so long for him to get the Power Suit?
I don’t mind the fact that he became a teacher (All Might was a teacher too), but it would’ve made more sense if he’d inherited the suit from All Might as a graduation gift and modified it to his standards, and became a part-time hero alongside teaching.
Deku could’ve been a Batman/Ironman type of hero straight out of school and built a minor hero career.
Well, there was probably the whole "rebuilding a country and society after two consecutive superhuman wars" thing slowing down production. I was irked too, but it makes some sense if you think about it.
There's wounded to treat, cities to rebuild, corruption to root out, and that's on top of the supervillains that undoubtedly still exist in society to deal with. Honestly, this ending has taught me one thing:
If your plan for a romantic subplot is to introduce the main potential pairing, spend a sizeable part of the series dropping huge hints that they both may like each other, never suggest any other alternative pairing concerning one or both characters, understandably not focus too much on it as it's mainly an action-oriented series, make it a big part of one of the two's character arc the fact they accept their feelings for the other instead of repressing them, finally give the two the chance right before the end to talk eye to eye and if not outright confirm the romance (as it's a really bad time for both of them) at least have them take one step closer to a confirmation, fumble the bag at the last second and then just end the series with zero confirmation of anything except some infuriatingly small hints to "leave things open to interpretation", then why the hell even bother with introducing said romance in the first place?
Yeah. Okay, to be honest I don't really have any real problems with this ending but I'm just a little salty about this in particular. Not even that much but come on

@isaacgirouard5924 I imagine training to a decent level at anything physical would take at least a few months, so I'd say it's pretty good
This ending destroys the whole message of the series. The point was that you don’t need to be born privileged or strong to succeed, but that you can work for that and win it all. But at the end he just gets fucked, and all of the people who were born with strength do better than him, which just ruins the whole message.
This shit don’t even make me mad, just incredibly sad. It just feels like a punch to the gut, a reaffirmation that it doesn’t matter what I do because I wasn’t born into privilege.
That's what I'm thinking about, it has a message but some parts of the story are either conflicting with the character or morals or the writing and themes contradict itself with plot holes and lack of focus on the main character which btw is the narrator
Exactly
I can only pray there will be a video with this as a topic.

I shall now step down from my soap box.
shonen writers just can't get their endings right , at this point , they're doing it on purpose...
Apparantly he got a robot costume like iron man, so he probably still acts as a hero.
@@littlejohn8435that would be awesome

This is the good part about not hopping on board a popular fandom. If it ends up crashing and burning, you can escape the disappointment everyone else is feeling, and if you ever want to check it out in the future, you can do it with the knowledge of what's to come so you don't get your hopes up and just enjoy the ride.
Or in this case, enjoy the train wreck.

@@LunoeShadow Pretty much yeah. I was a huge GoT fan. Ending broke me. Never went back afterward. Can't even watch clips of the good seasons and feel anything for it anymore. Maybe if George ever finishes the books and gives it a proper satisfying ending I might check those out. Hoping that in about 10 or so years we get a high-budget animated remake of the series done properly and closer to the books. Until then, I sleep. And I make a point of never watching anything those showrunners are involved with ever again, like 3 Body Problem (which I heard was lame compared to the books, big shocker). Worthless frat bros failing their way upwards in Hollywood.
Now whenever I see a series that has a lot of hype behind it, I tend to wait to see how it ends before getting into it. Saves a lot of heartache.
