Not only is this incredibly difficult on the violin, it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE on the bass, adding in all the incredibly difficult 10ths and INSANE shifts. I could care less that the tone on some notes are weird, this is simply mind blowing.
my Utopia is listening You, dueting with Giuseppe Ettorre. I hope this will happen at LaScala, Milan. Only after I will be happy to die. Only after this event that we may call The Millennial Event.
well...there is no secret; yes, I did work on scales and arpeggios. Other than that, finding the most efficient fingerings is paramount to succeeding. Best wishes and thanks for listening!
Beautiful, really beautiful. Such a hard sound from that double bass, but still a great interpretation from probably the most famous violion player. Greetings si sper sa apreciati sustinerea din tara dumneavoastra natala!
Thanks a lot! I've been doing college visits recently and the whole "low job-placement rate" thing keeps going through my head when I'm visiting these great schools. Advice like yours is encouraging--my goal's to make a profession out of my music and all the professional bassists I've met so far have all told me that's it's determination and ingenuity that will get me there. Best of luck to you!
thanks for watching the clip! My basic advice is, set the goal, and act on it; I've known Tom Martin for a long time and have a lot of admiration and respect for him, so all I can say, is that it was a marvelous experience playing with him. Good luck to you!
I can't put into words how much I enjoy hearing you play. Thank you for all the videos! You are most definitely an inspiration to me. Best wishes to you!!!
Having heard and seen your prior version of this piece, I did not think there was one millimeter available for improvement. I was wrong! BTW, love the new bass. And if Paganini were alive today (being a fiddler) he would certainly have written some personal piece just for you. Thank you dear maestro, as always, for bringing so much enjoyment to my life.
This looks so hard to even play at less than half your tempo!! I don't think anyone else has performed Caprice 24 on bass! This performance is better than your first one, by the way :)
Lots of improvements maestro! :D I like this version better than the one before!! Everytime i watch your videos I get a lot of motivations to continue practicing !
probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen... Bravo! I'm a cellist so I can appreciate how impossibly difficult it is to play this caprice on bass. But you've made the impossible possible :)
+Catalin Rotaru Ah ok thanks ! I'm only in my third year of classical double bass so I just use the orchestra tuning (E A D G). This kind of video is very inspiring for young students :-)
oh yeah that's how you play the bass... Can you give some feedback on my channel Mr. Rotaru? I'm an inspired bassist. Actually, on a side note, can you play the saint-saens rondo and capriccioso? That would be so awesome on the bass. I might have a crack at it, too!
Twoset needs to see this
THAT LEFT HAND PIZZ ITS SOOO AMAZING YOUR THE LING LING OF THE DOUBLE BASS OMG.
One of my teachers said this man taught him! He’s insane!!! The madman!!!
I think that if Paganini had seen this, he'd switched to Bass.
Amazing, thank you for sharing :)
haha, you're sweet, thanks!

him playing the artificial harmonics so well blew my mind
And here, we all thought it was difficult on the violin...! This is real virtuosity!
someday I will take time to write it down and perhaps publish it; thanks for listening!

Wow, hearing this played on the bass is incredible!
sorry about the sync problems; the video file has been copied a few times plus, it probably suffered some loss during the conversion
sounds majestic to me. wow

Any words for young bassists who aspire to play like this some day, Mr. Rotaru?
Also, how was playing with Tom Martin?
