It's like he's taking the piss out of 'observational comedy' in six different ways simultaneously 🤣 but somehow he manages to do it with complete warmth, and a dedication to bending the audiences minds until they're all on his bonkers wavelegnth! - Rarely before has such an intelligent man had *such* an unwavering dedication to all-out complete silliness! 💖 it's quite an extreme and strange act at first impression, but once you start to vibe with what he's up to up there, you can't help but love the guy for it!
This was the first Harry Hill stand up show I ever saw, and I will admit, I didn't laugh for the first fifteen minutes or so because I just couldn't keep up with what he was doing. Once I figured out his masterful ability to interweave his jokes and his constant call backs that required a brilliant memory, I thought he was an absolute genius. I still do. 😊
I will always love watching anything Harry does. I was hooked from the minute I saw him doing a few minutes on some show or other in his early days, and he came out with the classic joke - "My mother was a stoic woman.. Gave birth to me at the hospital in the morning. She was back at work in the afternoon.." "Mind.. I'm sure than in hindsight, even she would admit it was a mistake cycling home from the hospital.."
Just spent ages watching multiple live recordings to find these bits in this show: 13:44 - mole, foal 30:38 - mole, foal, bowl 37:27 - mole, foal, bowl, pole 48:05 - mole, foal, bowl, pole, goal So gloriously weird. This last followed by the brilliant scoop chop/mash sickness bit, which was a nice bonus.
This man was a professional doctor (GP) before comedy! He kept actual patients alive! 🤣 .....I think in this show, he's exorcising all those bleak YEARS of excessive sensibleness and having to have 'reasonable thoughts' every day, lol (For me he's up there with (the equally absurdist & far-out comedian) Bob Mortimer: Just in terms of sheer loveliness of character!)
Saw this tour with friends. Em and I were falling off our seats crying with laughter, Danny and Abigail ( who were last minute replacements for the couple we’d bought the tickets with) were sitting motionless looking a bit bemused. You’ll either fist punch the air when a couple of badgers appear, or you won’t!
Yes! I thought the same! Carr has worked onstage with him before at the Edinburgh Fest., so I expect he gets complementary tickets (should he want to go!). If they could have sat him with Eddie Murphy it would have been really loud.
I went to see him on this tour. I spent the whole night crying with laughter, whereas the American friend I went with was utterly confused 😂 The mashed potato story is genius!!
I never actually knew that Harry's wife appeared in the sketch The Boy With The Big Face. I love this show overall. Ridiculously funny, like the man himself.
Its pretty easy to see who has come to know Harry from his TV work, and those who knew him from his stand up. I miss the stand up, but he obviously got bored with it and wanted to do something else which is fair enough.
I watched the behind the scenes documentary for Hooves (it's available on RUclips) and you get an idea of what goes into putting on these kinds of shows, especially latterly as he began to involve supporting characters and musical numbers. And Harry Hill is pretty fastidious about his show, too, and sees to it that things are done right, according to the documentary. Point being that there could be an element of it being quite draining to do the shows to the level he wants, which may in turn restrict the amount of touring he wants to do or can do. Stuff like TV Burp is a bit easier, just because it's in a more controlled (and static) environment and it's not all up to him to write the material.
You've gotta have a system. If I'm ever getting a back rub to this day I still use the gardening line 'go on, dig, dig baby dig'. Funny when it came out, funny now. GO AWAY FROM THE FLATS!
@@submerciful64 Well if he is sad, he's one very rich sad person. Personally he is quite intelligent and clever too. After all he is a fully trained doctor.
I feel like I need to be off my head to find this funny, his humour certainly matured as he got older lol. Didn't expect to find that, cos he's still as mad as a skunk now!
yea, well, i suppose stand up is harder than TV burp. Personally, i do find tv burp much more interesting and amusing, but i appreciate the sheer skill involved in stand up.
I doubt Harry does drugs as he is a fully trained medical doctor. The type of humour he does, you either get it or you don't. Kudos to the guy, I've seen him live twice and numerous times on tv and think he is brilliant. His next ventours are a live tour in February and then a musical with Simon Cowell based on X Factor. The one thing I like about him is that he does not use or need expletives to get a laugh.
I love Harry's stand ups but they demand a lot more attention from the audience then the average stand up where you can dip in and out of focus and still be able to pick up the new jokes as they come. It would be a struggle for him to do this kind of routine these days, not because the marital is offensive (it is actually some of the most politically correct material you could possibly find) but just because audiences these days have the attention span of a goldfish and would get completely lost.
It's an odd mix of comedy. Some very smart stuff that might fly over some heads and then some stuff that's like comedy for kids. The film he did though......that was such garbage unless it was meant for young children
Genuinely impressive to watch, the fluid motion with which he can connect absolute nonsense flawlessly minute after minute.
He reminds me of a puppeteer because of the various strings that he keeps active throughout

Had this on video since I was 10, still watch it all the time nearly 15 years later. Hands down the best hour of standup I've ever seen.
MJolnir616 I agree
11 years later, I'm sick of mash but I do agree!

Greatest talent in the history of British comedy in my opinion.
I think you’re maybe right
Right next to Tim vine...😊
No...! No ! No ! NO !!!
Harry eclipses Vine. However John " Pigeons in Flight " Shuttleworth would be a worthy contender.
Milton jones in funnier
20 years old and it is still amazing!
25yrs now!
I love it at 63
Went to see this show at the theatre - ah, happy days.
I saw this show too..brilliant

Wonderfully insane. I love harry hill 💜
The "I talk a little fax................ with a slight accent I grant you" is genius.

It’s like someone’s mixed a bag of set ups and punchlines in a bag and he’s pulling them out at random.
And that’s not a bad thing.
Can I hear Jimmy Carr laughing in the audience?
@@shelleygraham3882 wtf???

I wonder if Harry gave him the complimentary kit kat as well?
@@josephstewart2821all 4 fingers? 😂
I saw Carr early in his career, he didn't have the gimmick laugh on stage at least
I see why Letterman is a huge fan of HH. I can see the influence of Harry's peppering of call-backs throughout the show as Dave does on his show.
First comedy show I ever went to. Warwick Arts Centre represent.

Absurdist comedy is something the English do exceptionally well.
And even absurder politicians....
He is off his rocker. Lol
the boy with the big face is terrible, the stand up is sublime.
I only just realised 25 years later that the mash scoops story is the plot of the roald dahl book Esio trot
Thank you for your service.
Brilliantly surreal..but for go see him do his work in progress..even more mental!
intersting..
Just fantastic.👏👏

Doubt there's any left
Ha! Thank you, I spent the whole hour trying to figure what he reminded me of.
Me and boy Steve watched this as teens and it’s still hilarious.
If this is the grand theatre Leeds I went to this but obviously it could be any where but it was a great show

I think Harry Hill and rich Hall and Harry Enfield are the best comedians. And Bill Hicks.😊

Not underrated at all. He's hugely popular won lots of awards
