After playing electric guitar for 16 years, this video has just made me buy a violin. that is without a doubt one of the best sounds I've ever heard. I aspire to be even half as good as that. Truly amazing.
Thank you for your nice answer. Practicing? Yeah..., that's a good idea ; -) I will !! I would like to come to one of your public performances, unfortunately I live in Germany. Keep it up!!! Love it.
Lots in country music. After all "country" is just the white man's Blues. The 1980's and 90's were some good times for the Blues fiddle. Plus there's Bluegrass which is basically the Blues, just faster and with more instruments
This is an awesome video! Looks like you and I shed bow hairs at the same rate. Any tips for not shedding so many? I'm sick of getting both of my bows rehaired every month.
Holy Underwear, Batman ! That is some bodacious blues ! No wonder Cool Mr Contreras is the pride of Fresno ! Two thumbs up ! Thank you for uploading ! You've made my day & my week ! CHEERS !! :-)
I’ve been following you on Instagram for a while and didn’t even think to check if you had a RUclips. This is amazing. Can you make any suggestions for a new player on what to look into to start learning this type of thing? Obviously pentatonic scales, but any suggested reading, sheet music etc to get one started?
Start listening to Muddy Waters, BB King, Clarence Gatemouth Brown .. listen to how they move and swing. Pick a phrase and master, now another, now another. It’s all about learning the language. Don’t think like a violinist, think like a musician with a violin. Be open to different vibratos, slides, techniques that can build color and phrasing. There is many many things you can do also with just bow pressure… experiment - but getting it snarl and scrape in a musical way.. I take a lot of inspiration from harmonica and slide guitar players on this one. It’s all about listening, learning the language and nuances. Your going to make mistakes over and over and over and over but slowly you’ll find your way. Hope this helps.
@@ViolinOnFire Thank you. You're awesome. I don't know why I didn't think that way. I'm halfway decent with blues on the guitar, but I'd not heard anything like what you do before. It's wonderful.
Tony T, If it's not too late, I believe Gliga has some modestly priced violins that are supposed to be pretty good for the money. They are made in Romania.
Played for an event I held for a cancer benefit... on the back of another friends gooseneck trailer in a pea soup restraunt's parking lot.... trust me Patrick is the real deal. Good guy, good husband, good parent...
I was searching for the blues played on the violin and I found it here. Wow.
Magnifique!!
Killing it ✌🏼🎶💙💨
This works way better than I expected. Better than jazz violin imo

How different would this be if played on a viola?
Tonally different, but not that huge.. it’s really all just stylistic stuff

+Chin Sau Yee thank you!
nice!!!! I hope to have a violin soon. Any mistakes not to make on my first purchase.
I'd recommend having fine tuners on the tailpiece for ease of tuning. Also make sure you get a shoulder rest that fits you well to avoid back pain.
