It's so cool to see the younger generation getting into the Blues. I'm 62 yrs old and have been playing over 40 yrs and love jamming the Blues. I'm still learning myself.
Might be worth mentioning that she is playing an instrument that costs about $35 US. Nothing fancy, but in the right hands (lips, tongue, mouth…) the wooden comb produces such a sweet and rich tone. Amazing vibrato! Mahalo for sharing… 😎🎶🤙
Hey, Tim. I bought myself 3 Fender Blues Deluxe harps and they sound pretty good, especially for $12.99 apiece, but which model is Amanda playing here and what key?
Amanda you are incredible. I'm 77 and have always owned a harmonica. As a traveling sales rep I spent many hours on the road and basically just breathed through my harmonica. I discovered you on line recently. St. James infirmary and The Way-Blues solo and others literally brought tears to my eyes. You have totally inspired me. I wrote down the score from St. James Infirmary and I will learn to play it first. I am very happy for you. You have a Blessed future in front of you. Thank you so much. Sincerely, your very inspired student, emac
In 1967, in a still rural fringe of Bethesda, MD, I was on a balcony maybe 4 floors up. I couldn't sleep, & there was a cool breeze & a deep quiet that extended into the surrounding forest 100 yards away. There were 3 towers to this apartment complex, around a simple courtyard, & I was smoking my cigarette in peace when a dark figure ambled out to the concrete center & sat down on one of the benches. I felt like we were close in our sharing of the night, when from that figure came a blues harmonica solo that absolutely blew me away. It lasted maybe 5 minutes, followed by maybe another 5 minutes of ambience. I was in an afterglow, & didn't want to ruin a perfect moment but calling out. Then that solitary figure ambled back the way it had come. I never did know who that was. That was 54 years ago, & I can still hear it, & feel it. This reminds me of that moment.
Man, i’ve been playing about 55 years myself, but I’ve never played like that… Back then when I first watched an old black fellow played before me, and I loved that sound I told him, he said here I’ve got an old harmonica, I’ll let you have… He said, here’s an easy song for you to play and learn it was called old brown jug, he played it I picked it up and I played it the first time, he said, oh you’re fooling me you’ve played before I was only 11 years old… I said no I’ve never played my life. He looked at me and he said young man that’s a gift from God.
Son, you have a lot to learn. All I learned to do with my harmonica, I can either blow in or out. Now I am learning how to blow a note. One step at a time. No rush. By 90, I hope...
Awesome! Beautiful, soulful ... and I am thrilled that a young woman is the musician making that mouth organ sing the blues. Keep up the great work Amanda - you are gonna shine as a Harmonica Star!

The harmonica is a small seemingly simple instrument to play; however, it will take you a lifetime to master. Or be born with true talent. Great jam Amanda and Co. 🎶
I only be happy to learn playing some Blues myself only to myself. I wished this since I was 14 years old. Back then, my parents and some teachers made me to stop think of it! And all that feeling and certitude that "I have the Blues in me all day long", died slowly and almost forever. I was for a while singing guitar and harmonica with my mouth on street and when I was alone in some places but in home was forbidden to listen or to play such a blasfeme sounds. Then had came the work at 15 and then had came the family at 19, first child and second and third and at 27 I was a slave working hard and having nothing but bills to pay a little shitty food to put on the table. No shoes on my feet no food on my table was passing throw my mind but now my slavery friends told me I'm "too old for this shit, man, this have to learn when you're child man if not you'll fail and you'll be a shame and a disgrace for all. And I was listening to them and I was feeling too scared of my failure to even try it. Such a stupid! Such a looser thinking they have made to grow in me so strong that all my life I was thinking like a looser and became one of greatest ever! This is what I am today a big looser with no family, no friends, no job, no money. And man, this thought crossed my soul and my brain like a huge thunder: THIS IS THE PERFECT SETUP FOR STARTING THE BLUES, isn't it? What were THEY, THE BLUES MONSTERS, back then in Delta? Slaves and losers! And today THEY ARE LEGENDS, and this f....king hypocrite world have THEIR MUSIC to enjoy! For this at 61, I'm decided to learn. For me and myself to see if that was in me or was only some shit I was thinking of. I'm waiting now to receive my new Hohner in C and Jon Gindick's book I bought on Amazon yesterday and then I'll see if I was stupid for no starting this when I was a 14 years old lied boy or I'm as they told me back then too stupid and poor to learn this "stupid things worth nothing but for junkies". I know sure today they lied to me on many ways and pushed me on the way of becoming a looser and I for myself this is what I am today, and can't do nothing to revers it, but I can let here this sad testimony for all young people to listen only their soul and making all sacrifices needed to play it out if they feel having this Art in them! No matters what! No matters what anybody say to you, just don't listen to them, just do it, try it, put it out of your soul, if it works good for you and everybody else, if don't, what you have to lose? Be smart and think high, the world is too way full of losers like me!
