The beauty of Irish dancing is that it is accepting of everyone. It is a wonderful community that embraces Irish culture. While not as popular as other forms of dance in the US, it is a true sport. My daughter dances and we absolutely love it! Morgan is an inspiration.
As an Irish dancer I can say I actually have a similar story as Morgan! I did ballet, tap etc and I started when my best friend told me to start doing it with her! 2 years later my teacher is a 3rd world champion and is in riverdance!!
Kelly stated she’s the “only” but that’s not the case. There were black, Asian, and others in Irish dance even in the 80s when I did it and in the 2000s when my daughter did it. Less common, for sure, but they aren’t a shock to see.
It's not tap though. Tap is young, modern, and urban usually tapping with flat feet. Irish is formal, mostly on toes, restrictive arm movements, and a lot of jumps. Clogging is the descendant of Irish Dance, which is similar but has looser rules.
“Barriers”? Do you mean to say that someone held her back because of her race? I hadn’t been aware that that was the case. On the contrary, I had the impression that she was embraced and nurtured despite her not being Irish or Irish American. Please clarify. If other aspiring Irish dancers who happen to be non-white are having barriers constructed against them, please tell us about that, too.
Lovin your beachy, sunny lewk Kelly🌞🌺 it really suits your personality☺ And this young woman has incredible talent, bravery to challenge and break through racial/social stereotypes. I wish her the best, congratulations on being invited to join the Riverdance group!
I wish she was just called an Irish dancer not “black Irish dancer” she is amazing people don’t need to make everything about race she is awesome on her own
Smiley L Youre missing the point. No one said they couldn’t be but since you don’t see them often the ones who might be interested might shy away bc they don’t see themselves. Just like the first person on the moon, (Altho many said it couldn’t be done). We’ve landed machines on the moon why make a big deal that a human stepped foot? Bc it’s something that hasn’t or rarely (in this case) has been done
As quite possibly the only South Sudanese/American Irish dancer to have competed at an international level, I would like also like to let you know that the CLRG organization has had at least two black world champions that I know of: one being American, and the other Scottish born to Nigerian parents, who won his title just last year.
I think it's because of the unfair and unfounded cultural appropriation accusations from white supremacists mostly in America who are neither dancers Irish nor appreciative of Irish culture. They're the ones who attempt cultural appropriation of Irish culture to divide black and Irish There are black Irish in America in Ireland and many other places. There are African Irish born in Ireland now and they are fluent Irish speakers and hurlers etc no problem from Irish
A half asian american girl won the world championships they are making a much bigger deal about this than it deserves.Irish people wouldn't bat an eye lid
Hater nobody cares what you think or anyone like you , she can get her love and approval from us. She's a young girl doing better things than you'll ever do and you're jealous. What a weak low self-esteem way of thinking 😂
Wrong! She has always given credit to the "originators" of the Irish dance, unlike some people(e.g. some white rappers, hip hop dancers, jazz/blues musicians) and/or Korean "Pop" groups who don't acknowledge the originators(African American). If acknowledgement is given to the "source" then it is not culture "appropriating" it is culture "appreciating." As a direct result, she was invited by the President of Ireland to participate in the St. Patrick day parade and the world famous River Dance group(Irish) have invited her to perform with them.
She is a talented Irish dancer 😊

Kelly always comes up with the coolest people to interview
She’s a beautiful BLACK Irish dancer!!! I love it; you are a blessing to MANY!❤🏆✌🏾

When white people dance hip hop, they're not labeled as "white hip hop dancer" 😢... she's an incredibly talented dancer, period.
She's amazing! She's the Misty Copeland of tap.
It's not tap though. Tap is young, modern, and urban usually tapping with flat feet. Irish is formal, mostly on toes, restrictive arm movements, and a lot of jumps. Clogging is the descendant of Irish Dance, which is similar but has looser rules.
Agreed
@@jaydel3 Tap is the child of Irish dance and black jazz. Clogging is her sister. So you’re not wrong, I just wanted to add.

I’ve seen black Irish dancers winning competitions going back to the 1980s.
Lovely! For the record - there are Schools of Irish Dancing all 5 continents including Africa (Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda...).
keep pushing you can conquer all obstacles
She is amazing !
She is amazing! 🙌
Thats definitely outside of the box. Now its gonna be trending.

There was a young man who was one of the top Irish dancers years ago.
if people stop looking at the race of a person and focus on an individual as a person the world would be better off
We need to have Kelly react to old video clips of herself! Or any of the "Funny Kelly Clarkson" moments video compilations!
I wish she was just called an Irish dancer not “black Irish dancer” she is amazing people don’t need to make everything about race she is awesome on her own
It’s BECAUSE she’s one of the only black women to place this high. That’s the whole reason she’s on the show.
@@sidneylemon1951 Which makes it a racist show.
It’s about representation.

Smiley L No one said they were but you don’t see them at all. This is notable, just bc you don’t feel that way doesn’t make it so.
Is Kelly wearing pjs?...if so, I Love it!..
I think it’s a beach cover up. She’s out by the pool.
Deb L. Yeah you’re probably right. I’m only a little disappointed.
So awesome!!👏🏽💜
Thats awesome!!! Top 50 in the world??? Its not even an American thing.....very cool

Yes I love knowing what her nationality is but why does she have to be known as the black Irish dancer

Just stop appropriating My culture thanks
