@@ENGLISHMURPHYAre they receiving medals for gymnastics or being Irish? Don’t act stupid, whether or not she has Irish blood is irrelevant, it’s a sport, not an ethnicity contest 😂
There's nothing like the first time experiencing racism, no matter how good of a person you are that day will make you look at the world differently forever.
I still remember the first time I noticeably experienced (a pretty tame level of) racism and it totally changed my whole outlook on life. I was a pretty sheltered 16 year old and more naive than most at that age tbh. But that was one of those pinpoint moments in my life where I felt I really grew up after that. It wasn’t even that deep. I’d gone to a town where not a lot of POC were and we went shopping and I noticed that a lot of people were staring at me and my family. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why, I didn’t even notice it was all white people looking at me because I genuinely just don’t see race when I look at someone. But then my brother told us they were looking at us because we weren’t white. And it just made so much sense and it was suddenly so obvious to me. It left me feeling so stupid and naive afterwards, like I’ve obviously always known I was a minority but fortunately, I’d never felt I was different for it until then. It really hit me deep, right in the core - I’d never felt like that before. And that was just from being stared at. It wasn’t like they called us a slur or even said anything to us. But it totally changed my view on any weird interaction from there on afterwards, this little paranoid voice in the back of mind was conscious of the fact that this attribute could very easily be a reason why someone is being unnecessarily weird with me. I absolutely hate it but what I hate more is the fact that there can be genuine substance behind it. That the voice could very well be true. All for something as simple as the colour of my skin. It’s messed up.
This is obviously a fake set up, they intentionally didn't call her out just so they can cry about it because there is nothing else really to cry about. I just feel sorry for the girl for being made part of their dirty act.
The fact that it took 18 MONTHS for Gymnastics Ireland to make an apology is just as appalling. They can keep the apology because the damage has been done. Kudos to Simone for reaching out, and to the rest of the world for showing incredible support for the sweet child.
@@warrenpaine Yeah I get that but it should be corrected soon as possible. Did they give her medal after 1-2 Minutes or did she have to leave without it? There was alot of ppl, somebody her teammates would have said something. Idk seems very strange actually

That poor girl will always remember this bad moment, How’s this even possible on a stage like that in the time we’re living? I hope that this will be investigated and whoever decided not to give her that medal won’t getaway unpunished.
it didn't even mean to but watching her get skipped over, my mind went straight to an experience i had as a child being told i was "one of the good [mexicans]" by a white childhood friend's relative. didn't quite understand what she meant but it made me feel uneasy. that memory will stick with her forever, but that woman's discrimination will never be forgotten either since it's on camera. i just hope it serves as motivation to continue on despite the evil in the world and doesn't get her too down. she's got a lot of people rooting for her.
The woman who was giving medals had one medal left in her hand when she walked away (with a grin on her face). That's pure racism Ireland. What a shame.
That's terrible. I can't believe people do this! Like, even *if* there were some kind of semi-logical explanation like the medals having names, then STILL I would specifically make sure to stay with THIS child until her medal arrived (or maybe even temporarily giving the one from the last kid in the line and then at the end hopefully I can quickly get the right medal), because being the only black child there I'd want to make absolutely sure she is not singled out.
That was THE most OBVIOUS "Overlook & Ignore" if I have ever seen one... and I've seen plenty!!! Just TERRIBLE!! 😢 Poor baby!! Keep going little princess, keep going!!!
@Robb29dehora wow is that because you know that for a fact or you just believe they don't have jobs cos they're immigrants? Have you heard of skills shortage and how the government is desperate for foreign talent? Have you seen how many immigrants are nurses, doctors, carers, teachers, engineers, builders etc...oh they're just all on the dole right 😅
It just reassures me that there are some Wicked miserable people in this world💯 As a grown woman, she purposely held back something from a child, knowing how it would make her feel. SICK!!
That’s not a mistake, especially when you’re walking away with an extra medal. It’s also not a mistake considering how easy it is to say, “we’re sorry. We made a mistake. We’re going to fix this and ensure our personnel behave fairly.”
Meanwhile we have a child who's understanding of fairness is damaged forever. to allow an apology to suffice only leads to the next incident of abuse of young black children.
Wait, I’m from Ireland and never knew this was in Ireland.. proves how much they tried avoid it. This lovely little girl deserves more than just an apology.
@@supereliptic I’m not a guy for clarification. Even if I didn’t watch the news I would’ve still heard about it. They covered it up well and tried avoid it.
The worst part is that you can see in the clip that the woman who was handing over the medals still had one medal in her hands when walking away, which meant that she deliberately ignored the young girl.😢
Hate is low down!!! And it was so obvious that it was deliberately done!!! You just got caught is the only reason these Devil are saying anything about this racism…
😢 Being proud of your race is one thing… but there’s a deep level of viciousness and demon in a person who can treat a CHILD in this manner. Children ‘are innocence’, and that act is evil in the worst way!!!! the woman giving out the medals (even if) she was told to not give the one girl the medal, should have enough love in her HEART to say in that moment, “NO, this little girl deserves to have this moment just as much as any other girl up here” no matter if you get fired (from handing out medals 🏅 😏) My heart sees this no different from an abuser of children. My heart doesn’t pick and choose which kids to love, a true heart simply….loves! But…. God will have the last conversation. 😒Should be more push back nonetheless. Sorry but not sorry. 🤜🏾❤️🤛🏻
Same thing happened to my son at a baseball game. Last game of the season coach handed out medals and had something nice to say about everyone completely forgot about my son. My son spoke up coach apologized quickly handed him his medal and kept going.

@SonderDAzeX there was ample time for them to explain their intent, but instead, they reluctantly provided an apology. This was no accident. There is no other explanation as to why the only participant excluded was also the only Black participant.
It is so heartbreaking to watch the little girl smiling in anticipation of receiving her medal before being ignored. How could the woman passing out the medals live with herself after being so blatantly coldhearted?
After the clip ended, I believe the girl received her winners medal as she won the competition, and the other girls were receiving participation medals (loser medals). Maybe solution is to get rid of participation medals?
That woman knew EXACTLY what she was doing-AND the message she sent! As for the ‘leadership’ of Gymnastics Ireland, you showed everyone who and what your are at that moment that you remained silent AND for the following 18 months. But, yanno, it’s rather expected.
That is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THEY SHOULD HAVE INTERVIEWED THE FEMALE HANDING OUT THE METALS IN PUBLIC, ON CAMERA AND PRESSURE HER TO ANSWER HOW SHE COULD PRETEND TO NOT SEE THE GIRL. PRESSURE HER ON CAMERA!!!
What a miserable woman and the organization can keep that apology. It's worthless at this point. The amount of energy & intentionality it takes to be racist will never not baffle me. @fernthegreenfairy how does believing that racism exists...make you a brainwashed racist? I'm so confused. Also I'm with the people asking for a source. If you can show us where the pictures are with the better award then I'll bite my tongue and admit I'm wrong, but until then you can't just spew your own version of events with no proof. It makes you seem like the racist who is desperately trying to reframe the narrative. But again I could be wrong.
Yeah…. Me too.
