This look at the many voices of Benedict Cumberbatch has us strolling down memory lane, from Sherlock all the way to Doctor Strange #tbt via / 799280941818445827
Tony Medrano Although it's motion capture, they only used it for the face. They couldn't use the footage of his body movement bc a dragon moves very different
I recently learned this as well. Lol. I kind of assumed he was just in a studio recording the voice -- I didn't realize they actually had him all decked out in a motion capture suit crawling around on the floor. But it was honestly super adorable because they asked him in one interview how he prepared for the role and he said he went to the zoo and studied how lizards moved and tried to copy that.
Kayla M Cook its really cool because they could have easily just put him in a studio but he wanted to use motion capture so he could really feel like the dragon and get into character. thats just one of the amazing things about him and the hobbit’s filmmakers
He recently appeared on the Graham Norton Show and Norton got him to repeat the word slowly with him, and he actually managed to get it right :-) so hopefully he's overcome that now. But what a voice - like a cello filled with molasses
I always described it as coffee, deep, strong, and if it's made the way I like it, smooth. But a cello filled with molasses is a PERFECT description!!!
Seriously! Same here! Watch the RUclips video of him doing that scene! When he's portraying Smaug infuriated He does a snarl and growl so spot on he actually sounds inhuman! I already had goosebumps, and he gave my goosebumps, goosebumps!
Well, it's a bit different. For example, in American English one says, "sidewalk", as apposed to, "pavement". Thus, it is almost exactly the same, all the while completely different.
Northeasterners and Mid-Atlantic residents say pavement, too. American English is regional, and considering how large the country is, no one sounds the same.
American English and British English, though they are both technically the same language, are vastly different. It's like the difference between a chihuahua and a basset hound. Both are obviously dogs, but they're definitely not the same kind of dog.
My favorite thing about Benedict is that his acting is truly so good that it feels like completely different people in everything you watch him in. That's how all acting is supposed to work but just doesn't most of the time. My favorite is Sherlock, and it's crazy how different that character is than Ben and his other characters. Truly magnificent.
I'm Australian and I am impressed... when someone does an Australian accent it's ridiculously strong and unrealistic... but this one was suttle and spot on
HHAHAAHAHAH XD I was not prepared for the dragon bit, I had no clue that they actually used his actions as the dragons xD I thought that he just stood in a recording studio and recorded his voice, oh god xD I need to see more of this!
I love his accents and he does them so well considering he has a deep British accent that is his normal voice. Also him as a dragon always gives me the chills
FlyLikeAnOwl that’s why it’s considered good because he can sound subtle and native without having to go into a full blown over the top accent like most people do
When I found that he is casted as Doctor Strange, I thought that the character was British until I found out later that he is supposed to be American. That was when I was super psyched to hear him speak like an American!!
He is an amazing actor. I just hope he won't be typecast as smart genius character in his future endeavor, even though I enjoy immensely in whatever he does ;>
I choose to die by Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. Just speak to me in that deep rumble and I'll happily drift my way up to Heaven. That voice gives me shivers.
I couldn't stop laughing at the last one omg I didn't realize he actually had to ACT as the dragon omg
Faqeha Qureshi ikr it's pretty cool

mocap

Nice video. Despite having resonant, deep, rich vocals, he can't pronounce the word penguin. One of the adorable little things about him.

PENGLINGS!!
lol i think it was "peng-wings" XD either way lol!!
Harry Kenway he says penwings
That's a hot dragon.
The last one literally gave me the chills
cringe chills m8
Chills were resolved as they showed the footage of the unedited acting hhhh
Seriously!
Same here!
Watch the RUclips video of him doing that scene!
When he's portraying Smaug infuriated He does a snarl and growl so spot on he actually sounds inhuman!
I already had goosebumps, and he gave my goosebumps, goosebumps!
Manuela D. I JUST DAID THAT!! 😂
I think I just spoiled myself with Merlin.
his voice is as deep as Mariana Trench
Indeed :)
N.A.Z. how about Peter Cullen?
11 kilometers :D
Wtf his Smaug voice is ridiculously unsettling, especially the 'how do you choose to die' bit
xfroz I think that's the point, he's supposed to be the embodiment of a terrifying dragon
Probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen a voice actor do
Thats why its good
If Benedict don't stop being so amazing, world will have too give him all of the Oscars.
I love it how rather than getting actors who speak in those accents normally they're like nope let's get Cumberbatch
Yes, agree, haha! So funny. People just love working with Benedict I guess 😊
He is such an incredible actor! God, I wish I could act that well!
"But it's not the first time he's spoken American" American isn't a language, I think you mean in an American accent.....😂😂
Well, it's a bit different. For example, in American English one says, "sidewalk", as apposed to, "pavement". Thus, it is almost exactly the same, all the while completely different.

Tanya1976ism True, true.
American English and British English, though they are both technically the same language, are vastly different. It's like the difference between a chihuahua and a basset hound. Both are obviously dogs, but they're definitely not the same kind of dog.
They're using "American" as an adjective here, I believe
Really cool!
He's just such a great actor :D
you forgot his professor snape impression lol
and Chewbacca!

Always admired Benedict Cumberbatch's acting skills and how he gets so into his roles. He's awesome..
Is it just me or will Benedict make a great Batman? Just me?
As long as he doesn't have to face The Penguin. 😁
You, my good person, win the internet today. Oh my god.
retnavybrat u mean pengwing?
Just you. Too slender. Could do Riddler easily however.
Maybe an animated series? His voice is a good fit but physically not so much
Watching him crawl around as Smaug is beautiful
Yet he still can't say penguin lol
PENWENGS
I'm Australian and I am impressed... when someone does an Australian accent it's ridiculously strong and unrealistic... but this one was suttle and spot on
He's such an amazing and versatile actor. 👑
Truly the best actor of his generation
sorry but ben w/ a southern accent is the most unsettling thing ive seen in months
LOL
HHAHAAHAHAH XD I was not prepared for the dragon bit, I had no clue that they actually used his actions as the dragons xD I thought that he just stood in a recording studio and recorded his voice, oh god xD I need to see more of this!
Benedict is such a talented person

This guy is seriously becoming my favorite actor
an actual legend
I got chills, that range is insane, plus he can do Jar Jar Binks like it’s nothing.
I love his accents and he does them so well considering he has a deep British accent that is his normal voice. Also him as a dragon always gives me the chills
"So tell me underling...how do you choose to die~?" Dat hot damn deep voice ♡^♡
1:00 every life decision I have ever made has led me to watch this clip....I regret nothing
I'm sorry, but for me as a non-native-speaker it all sounds kinda the same^^
FlyLikeAnOwl that’s why it’s considered good because he can sound subtle and native without having to go into a full blown over the top accent like most people do
FlyLikeAnOwl true i feel you
hahah true I can relate to that
They aren't. I'm not a native speaker too. You'll see the difference later. It depends of your English level.
Lol I have a C1 and I still dont get the difference
I'm in love with his voice
My name is kkkKKHHHHHHHAAANNNnn
No doubt He’s amazing ❤️😘
Benedict as Sherlock Holmes is my all time favorite. 💞
Why do I find him acting as a dragon funny?
Jaina Solo because it kind of is
Yeah. 😂
Jaina Solo 😂😂i do too
everyone do
woww....he is just so talented
SUCH an amazing actor!
I LOVE HIS VOICE.!!! ITS SOO SOOTHING AND THERE'S SOMETHING ABT HIS VOICE THAT IS SOO RELAXING!!♥♥
he always sounds amazing
1:15 oh my god! A pengwing!
I could see him follow up Alan Rickman as Snape in potential new Harry Potter movies….
Did anyone else lose it when they found out Benedict had to do that to voice Smaug? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When I found that he is casted as Doctor Strange, I thought that the character was British until I found out later that he is supposed to be American. That was when I was super psyched to hear him speak like an American!!
Even after seeing him look ridiculous in that mo-cap suit I still have a crush on him
He did the Australian one pretty well, and I’m Aussie so that’s a big compliment
He's such a cutiepie
Smaug is my fav! got goosebumps every time I watched the movie!! The Aussie accent was a bit disturbing tho
Iconic. Cumberbatch is one of the very best actors that will ever exist
My southern heart can't handle his southern accent
The last one 😂 he's just having a dandy time on the floor
'But it's not his first time doing the american accent'
Ben:'SUP!'
what did I expect😂😂
He is an amazing actor. I just hope he won't be typecast as smart genius character in his future endeavor, even though I enjoy immensely in whatever he does ;>
I choose to die by Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. Just speak to me in that deep rumble and I'll happily drift my way up to Heaven. That voice gives me shivers.
my fav actor everrr!!!
He also had to do a Scottish accent in Sherlock. 😁
now he is share khan in mowgli..
I love that he's built his career on accents and voices of seemingly just about every kind.
I'm still in shock, from listening to Stranges Voice and then Sherlocks!!
And still he has difficulties saying 'penguin' XD
Cumberbatch is more than fit to replace ben afflect for the role of batman. Who wants to see cumberbatch as batman
How do you choose to DIE? :)
Oh he is fantastic!
last part is the Cumberbatch Bootilicious Acting Technique. I plan to to follow his path.
he is a professional actor i love him
I don't know about others but I will always remember him as Sherlock Holmes.
I love all his roles, but Sherlock will always have a special place in my heart.
My man was great in Fifth Estate. Love me a little Julian Asange.
Perfect actor 😁
The dragon part cracked me up! Amazing! XD
I love him a lot😍😄
He has a deep voice and. Unique bass thats why
Nice vídeo! thanks!!!
Smaug is very EPIC! ❤
The dragon one never fails to impress me. 😍😍😍
I love his American accent 😍 sounds 100% authentic
The ending gave me chills!
The dragon part tho XD
Its amazing how he can do so many accents, Bukkakke Cul de sac is a talented man.
I love his American accent 😭
he is the best actor ever. I mean seriously no one could pull playing smaug off w/o laughing
His voice is higher than my grades.
Gotta love Ben!
he is talented 👍👍👍👍👍😍😍😍😍😍
THE WINK OH MY GOD
“Spoke American”
His "Snape" voice is my favourite. In Sherlock, sometimes, he sounds so like Snape.
Beredict cucumberstash is my favorite actor
You forgot his Boston accent in "black mass".... brilliant.
A renaissance man I see
Sherlock Holmes is my favorite fictional character and when I think of him only one person comes in my mind .....the one and only Benedict Cumberbatch
If I was hired to be in the room during his Smaug recording I would be fired right away for laughing
As someone from the south I'm just honored that he did a southern accent
this man is The Actor of our time. There's nothing he can't do. American actors can't measure up in any form.
Shook bc I love this beautiful otter.
His Aussie accent was surprisingly not bad. It's quite a difficult one to do properly because most of us don't actually say 'g'day mate' all the time.
My obsession with Benedryl Slumberpatch is unhealthy :)
Fitting that the logo would be a pengueeng in a bowtie
He did Dormammu as well I think
