Not a Honda fan boy nor a Mazda but i do own both CX9, CRV RS, and a Tesla Model 3.. sadly “Uly” really pushed hard for the Cx5 right from the start which adequately or should i say “sales” talk the other presenter to choose the Cx5 as well. The presenter Uly was so obsessed with the Mazda even though it’s so outdated, you guys barely fit comfortably at the back but still pushes hard that yeah you can move on the side for a bit to fit 3 passengers..He also played mind games for choosing the CRV but Mazda in the End. This is bad journalism gents.
Thanks for your insights...that wasn't the case. When we designed this review format, it was supposed to be me in the CX-5 camp and Nics in the CR-V camp. We had to convince each other on the merits of our vehicles. Maybe it just didn't come across that way in the end. We'll take note of that in our future head-to-heads. Having driven both these vehicles, I'd say the choice is down to what you want. I'd take the CR-V if I only had one space in my garage. I'd go CX-5 if it was a coding car or if I had garage space to spare. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either vehicle here.
You don't have to be a "hardcore owner" to appreciate a car. Yes, ownership does provide a nice perspective, but spending some seat time in a car is enough. Typically, we get these cars for a week.
What a great review and comparison enough to convince me which of the two fits my driving pleasure. I don’t need a test drive. I’m a Mazda fan ever since and when I watched this video it adds to my broader understanding about this car. You guys are amazing and knows how to give the consumers important feedback for both cars.🚗
Both brand are very reliable and unique. It’s just depends who’s gonna drive and how many gonna hop in to the car😅 I will pick mazda as it’s feels like a sports car when driving and more power with fair gas consumption. And you can still fit 3 person at the back unless if they are morethan 6ft😅
Mazda has always been fun to drive. I still have my 2004 Maz3 and drives great but a gas guzzler. Recently acquired the Crv e-hev and I can attest on its gas savings doing 13 km/L even with heavy traffic. Put it in sports mode and it flies with economy down to 12km not bad. Another big factor is the resale value. I think the CRV wins in this department.
Overall? You'd be surprised, but it's the CX-5. The CR-V has a tad more wind noise at speed...the CX-5 seems to control that better. In the city though, they're more or less the same. The CR-V, however, being a hybrid, can operate on electric power. When it does this, it has the advantage in terms of vibration isolation.
We can...but at this point, it'll be a one-way battle in favor of the CX-5. The current Forester is just too meh. We're still wishing for a turbocharger (or at least a bigger engine).
@@carguideph ok thank you. We are planning kasi to buy a brand new car, and we are torn between cx5 and forester. :) but if my commander whats bigger space, then were torn now between cx8 and outback.
@@archimedesreymanigbas9623 despite the CX-5's age versus the Forester, the Mazda is still the better choice drive-wise, refinement, features. Probably the only thing going for the Forester is interior space, ground clearance. But the thing is just sooooo glacial. It's slow! Now, comparing the CX-8 and Outback, that all depends. If you need the three rows, the CX-8 is the one for you. Gives you the flexibility to choose between ferrying 7 (or 6 people if you get the AWD) or luggage. Responsiveness is the same between the two, but the CX-8 has better fuel economy. No need to get the Outback Turbo me thinks--just too expensive for what you get.
Cx 5 mazda is very reliable even here in the US, one of the best compact SUV, All wheel drive, low maintenance, 2.5L engine, this car will last for sure, no hatred for electric or hybrid tho ☺️
Good point. We didn't think of it that way. We just thought positioning the USB chargers inside of the rear arm rest makes the entire rear look cleaner. Perhaps that's the reason why the CX-60 moved them to the area near the rear AC vents.
Why the Mazda CX 5 in the Philippines has a small infotainment screen? Here in US the size was 10.25 inch. Anyway, both cars are great and dependable. If you want a more luxurious style go with Mazda CX 5
We can talk about the CR-V if you'd like. Or you could just watch the conclusion. I think hindi na nakikinig sa video o hindi na nanood eh. You're just basing it on the first few minutes.
It’s an incredible review and hats off to them. Well said on how these two brands / variants are both unique in its own way. True enough about the driver centric feeling & functionality of the Mazda as compared to the sedan feeling & performance of the Honda. I was truly amazed of the CX’s interior and that cockpit feels. However, I was captivated by the CRV’s overall looks, presence on the road, performance, fuel consumption (better than the Accord) and of course the resale value. Although we didn’t get the RS but we are more than satisfied with the AWD 7-seater VX variant. Thank you gents!😊
That is the problem with Mazda, other countries esp. US is getting the 10.25 inches infotainment on CX 5 after update, Asian esp SEA is getting this 8inches🤦♂
That is quite true. We don't understand why most of our cars are still stuck with the old Mazda Connect system when other markets--Australia, Japan, US, are already getting them outfitted with the newer 7G system.
This guys obviously mazdabois , honda fanbois knows what's honda anyways, not to make things complicated i gave you the summary. Honda- space, fuel efficiency and resale value Mazda- driver centered, premium cabin feel and ground clearance. Both are good but i'd go honda all day everyday.
Guys, take this constructively. There are a couple of mentions of your biases towards the cx5. Uly's passion towards his cx5 ownership defeated the point of this video. Really very bias.
@@TheWangtungsung I own the diesel and admittedly it does help in forming a more complete picture when it comes to the pros and cons. But I still try to approach things from a neutral perspective. I still say, both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Infotainment systems best to be non-obtrusive (size isnt the end all) and few touchscreen as possible to avoid distractions. More tactile.
Great point on the if a family can only get 1 car then it's a practicality choice.
Yes, I agree that should be a point to consider when making a comparison between to cars. Some buyers are single and are just for themselves
honda is the practical one who is wife material while mazda is the hot one who puts a grin on your face as you ride it everyday

Choosing between these 2 but just the base variants: cx-5 2.0 fwd or crv v 1.5 turbo. Prices are similar now w/ discounts. Any thoughts sirs?
