Thanks for this video, I really needed to hear what you had to say. You're a great example of someone who let strong desire and persistence take you in the right direction. Congrats and good luck in the future.
I love it. I bring my watercolors to work and have my paintings all over my desk. I'm sure I look nuts, but it helps me stay focused. :) Glad I'm not the only one who does/did this during their lunch.
This is a much better dialogue I hear coming from you. Your tutorials on specific things fall short of being masterful, but this honesty is about something you know, and it shows, it shines.
That's brilliant to hear Tanner. I'm sure you will be successfuly. I have been a professional since 1998. Sometimes it was hard but I enjoy every moment, good and bad. I would love to visit your studio one day. Take care and good luck./
Thank you, Colin! I appreciate your motivating comment! And likewise, I'd love to visit your studio one day. I'll be posting more videos soon. One of which will be a new and improved studio tour! I've moved locations since the last one.
@@tannersteedart Brilliant, look foreward to seeing that vid. My garden studio is only small. Would love to meet you one day. As a landscape artist I have the rest of the world to use as a studio but I would like more space. Take care.
Thank you Rachel! I am so excited to make more! I am setting up for live streams with multiple cameras. Just waiting to purchase a new computer. Hurry up Apple and releases the new MacBook! Lol..
HI! Just found you today! I a newbie at Art opposite from you I lost my job cause of Covid 2020 and decided to try Art and found many Great Artist from all over the world on Ytube! decided not to go back to work take retirement and give it a try ! I just have to convince myself that I could sell a piece of Art as opposed to doing it for fun! I really apreciate your great advices , you speak really well have a Great personality and I'm sure you will have Great sucess ! LUCKY MAN ! (and knowing it!) wishing you all the BEST from QC 🇨🇦
Well good for you for making that decision! And yes, there are so many resources for artists here on youtube! I too spend many hours on youtube studying. But usually I am painting at the same time!
you will have a great future and get a lot of joy from being an artist. I'm ancient now but all I want to do is get into my studio everyday. I would like to see you video a complete painting on utube....all the best.
Greatly inspirational! Thanks for the video! I'm a fervent art lover, but so far my art knowledge is limited to the old masters and their students. Could you recommend five, or so, living artists that have interested you? Thanks, again!
Just tripped upon your channel today. Lots of great nuggets of knowledge in these videos. :) I started painting a couple years ago and consider myself a hobby artist... a hobby that pays for itself with a few craft show type events each year. I've been asked about commissioning paintings and I've done a few for very satisfied people. But some of the requests scare me honestly and I sheepishly decline. Maybe lack of confidence... but more about being asked to produce paintings that are just too grand for me. I'm missing out on $, but pressured work detracts from the enjoyment that painting brings me. Where do you draw the line?
I have it displayed very clearly on social media, and I am always working on a new commission or planning for one. Whenever I'm speaking with a potential client, I bring up in passing that I am working on a custom piece. I plan to speak on this topic during my first livestream along with a set of other questions people have sent me. The plan is to go live at 10 am this Saturday.
I did try acrylics for a moment. I was found myself with so much dried paint on my palette at the end of each session that I had to move on to oils. Don't be afraid of oils. Just wear gloves and keep your solvent lid covered while you paint. I'll be posting again soon after I get my new cameras set up for live streaming. Stay tuned and join a live stream so I can persuade you to switch over if you have not already done so.
Why do artist call it lucky to have a career in art? The truth is... A career in art is not luck; it's hard work and an artist believing his or herself. See, many artist don't make it because they been taught that having a career in art is by luck; therefore, many stop believing themselves and just plain give up. I can say...they give up and find there life a living-hell because that is what happened to me. That is why I'm making the decision to go back to my roots and to embrace the gift that GOD gave me in the first place.
Thanks for this video, I really needed to hear what you had to say. You're a great example of someone who let strong desire and persistence take you in the right direction. Congrats and good luck in the future.
I will never turn back. It was the best decision I have ever made.
I just stumbled here, it is great to see someone so passionate and putting aside other distractions. Good for you man, keep at it!
Thank you! So far it's going very well! I'm drawing and painting in Italy and today in Paris. Life is short. Follow your dreams, whatever they are.
I love it. I bring my watercolors to work and have my paintings all over my desk. I'm sure I look nuts, but it helps me stay focused. :) Glad I'm not the only one who does/did this during their lunch.
Amazing dedication! Congratulations in your full-time artistic endeavors!

As someone who started painting when I was older and is also self taught, I really enjoyed you sharing this experience, thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The journey continues..

Great video. We need passion, passion, passion and even more passion. Mind you, you won't go far with just passion ... but you'll go nowhere without.
Well said! Thanks for watching!

Just keep going. You'll make it happen.

Hi, I had a question. How do you advertise for commissions?
I have it displayed very clearly on social media, and I am always working on a new commission or planning for one. did you experiment with acrylics and then transitioned to oil....i m on that journey...but procastinating...your solvents video scared me a bit.
I did try acrylics for a moment. I was found myself with so much dried paint on my palette at the end of each session that I had to move on to oils. Don't be afraid of oils. Just wear gloves and keep your solvent lid covered while you paint. I'll be posting again soon after I get my new cameras set up for live streaming. he reminds me of the older brother from Malcolm in the middle
Lol, my girlfriend said she had a crush on him, so I'll take it.. 😅
