I've owned several smart cars including 3 x 450s. (also a 451 and a 453). Whilst every generation of Smart has got better and more car like it's lost the quirkiness and the vision of the genius 450. I've just bought another low mileage 450 and plan to keep it for a few years. Re: the polo bluemotion - a good car, I got mine up to 220k before scrapping it due to ULEZ.
I loved the original Smart car from the moment it was announced but never bought one due to the lack of a decent gearbox. Maybe it would have been different if I lived near a city that had specialist garages rather than having to use the local Merc outlet. We really could do with such a compact car nowadays
