The BEST Sweet and Sour Chicken 酸甜鸡

  • This is an authentic sweet and sour chicken recipe. Sweet and Sour Chicken is a popular Chinese-American dish that features tender pieces of chicken coated in a delicious sweet and tangy sauce. The combination of succulent chicken, colorful bell peppers, and juicy pineapple creates a delightful blend of flavors and textures. It's a favorite choice at many Chinese restaurants and takeout menus, and you can easily recreate it at home.
    Serves 2-3
    Ingredients:
    8 oz chicken thigh meat, cut into 1 inch chunks
    1 tsp white rice wine(sub water)
    ¼ tsp salt
    ⅛ tsp white pepper
    1 ½ tbsp starch
    1 egg + 1 tbsp water
    Dredge:
    ½ cup flour
    ½ cup corn starch
    Other ingredients:
    1 tbsp minced garlic
    ½ tsp minced ginger
    Red or green bell pepper ½ each, cut into 1 inch chunks
    ½ medium onion diced
    ½ cup pineapple chunks (from 8oz pineapple chunks can)
    Sauce:
    1 tsp soy sauce
    ½ cup sugar
    ¼ cup ketchup
    ⅓ cup vinegar
    ⅓ cup pineapple juice (from 8oz pineapple chunks can)
    1 tbsp corn starch + 1 tbsp water

      If you don't have pineapple juice, you can use low sodium chicken broth or water instead, but keep in mind that the flavor will be different. This recipe really shines when you use pineapple juice - it tastes fantastic with it. 😊

    Can you reuse the oil ? From cooking chicken

      Yes, you can reuse oil from frying chicken. Strain the oil to remove any food particles and debris, and store it in a cool, dark place. However, after multiple uses, the oil can break down and become less effective for frying, so it's best to replace it eventually. 😊
