    Love this. Don't know how the NFL would take the idea, but a show following a crew around for a season would be must watch and maybe help people understand how close some of these calls are/why refs make the decisions they make.

    Tyler was happy to see Steve! Fun fact. Way before being drafted into the NFL, Tyler Lockett said, the reason he plays the WR position is because of Steve Smith being his favorite WR growing up as a kid, and wanted to be just like him. Respect!

    So you know, I didn't realize how beneficial it would be for a Referee to be a former player, but after seeing Steve Smith Sr explaining what he is seeing from a former player standpoint I can totally see the benefits of a referee being a former player. Can see things a referee who hasn't played cant see, which in turn will help with knowing what to look for and when. Pretty cool !

    I never realized the work that a referee does each game. Plus all the fitness that's included. I need to stop yelling at my tv everytime I see a bad call and remember that they, the refs, are only human too. Great video

    That was great, both entertaining and educational. This should be a regular thing around this time of year. Either with Smith or a different player each year, but I feel like Smith just makes this extra entertaining. But having former players still be involved with the game, should be what the NFL continuously works at, year around.

    One of the best things nfl has released in a while. They should start a program for football athletes that either ended their career early or just got cut of age to work their way I to referee and you’ll grow the respect and the game overall with better more understanding refs

      he always went hard man. He caught a game winning TD ball whilst getting annihilated. He broke his arm from how hard he got hit. I always loved his play.

    I felt the same way watching Richard Jefferson ref Summer League.......LOVE the alternate perspective on the game. Forces you to view the game through another lense, and it's cool that it's Steve Smith.

    When Steve gets thrusted into a "game" situation at the end of this video, you can start to appreciate what goes into this job.
    You can also see how Steve genuinely takes this seriously. He is part of the NFL family and makes the most of that opportunity helping others get some appreciation in that family.

      Yes. But one thing you never can see from film, is hot FAST everything is on the field. There is so much action happening within that few seconds of action and is is F-A-S-T.
      Blink, you miss it. Someone blocks your view, you miss it. Can't see through a player, you miss it.
