  • Today, we're prepping to clean the engine bay, restoring the headlights, and doing some coding to remove bulb warnings on my 1998 528i! This is part of an ongoing series as we work to restore this car, and get it ready to flip for profit very soon!

    Update: The coding we did ended up leaving the lights on all the time (you can see how they're on even when the switch is off). SOOO I re-coded the module to disable the Low-Beam fault instead, and it works great! Wanted to throw that out there for anyone doing this coding on an early model car at home :)

    Glad to see the much forgotten 528i get some love my E39 528i has 220,000 miles with no problems it still idles smooth no ticking noises no misfire shaking and it'll go for a 100 mile cruise with ease.

    Wow, learning new stuff here every video, and also learning what a complete novice I am when it comes to car maintenance. For some reason I never realized you can polish plastic by wetsanding it and then buffing it. Very nice work!

    3:33 You want to hold the bottle on it’s side. It lets you get a lot closer to whatever your pouring into.

      I am using a funnel with a piece of a rubber hoose - I saw it on YT a few years ago. Works like a charm.

      Yes such a handy trick to make the older BMW's work like a newer car. Thanks for watching and commenting, Chad! 🙏

    You can also buy a leather steering wheel cover on Amazon or eBay. They have several colors that match BMW interiors! I have installed them on my 1995 E34 525ia, my 1998 E39 540ia, and my 2003 E39 530ia. All gray interiors! They are very becoming. They look and feel so good also! They cost around $49.00 USD.

      I've seen these, but have yet to do it! I'd want to do a suede cover if possible, with some M-color stitching. Thanks for the recommendation Ronaldo!

      I completely understand! Just some of us older guys like the M’s stuff, but do not need the bling side of it! Suede seems to get dirty fast by the way! Love what you are doing! Thanks I started out like you have and are! BMW’s seem to have an allure to more discriminating individuals as a piece of near perfect engineering, wonder, and grace with handling and horsepower to whine into a manifestation of pride!

    Did the wires have to be spliced to run those facelift headlights? I have a production Dec 99 528i with the pre-facelift halogens and have been wanting to get the halos and HID or even just LEDs for it, but not sure about the work required.

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  2 года назад +1

      Yes, you need to buy the adapter harness if you don't want to cut up your factory stuff (plus you'd need the new connector anyway). If you google the E39 facelift headight adapter harness you'll find it, I think FCP or ECS would have it. Oem part. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Will the cable you linked in the description work on a 97 E39?

    • @TheBimmerBarn
      @TheBimmerBarn  2 года назад

      Yes, but it will only scan the engine module. You should check out my video on the OBD Hack for early cars so you can have full access to all the modules: ruclips.net/video/kWKcWBMESDQ/видео.html

    • @TheBimmerBarn

      It works on E39's too! If you have a pre-lci model with the circular connector under the hood, you'll have to do a hack to make it work through the OBD port, I have a video on my channel on how to do it too! Thanks for watching
