I'll guarantee you that Jacobs won't pose any realistic threat to Bolts record. If he can remain injury free and all goes well with his game plan, I can see him running a PB of 9.72. There's just no replacement for the long strides and power which Bolt had.

    Well let's see here
Usain Bolt in his world record produced extremely quick acceleration (even quicker than that of Christian Coleman) and just behind the inspirational Su Bingtian. Marcell Jacobs however, is already around a meter behind Usain Bolt at the 60m mark. Usain Bolt's maximum top end speed surpasses 12.42 m/s roughly and he maintained it brilliantly in his race with an extremely special finishing speed of 3.27. For context, look at Noah Lyles who is a 19.5 sprinter with among the very best top end speeds and finishes recent time. His best finishing speed is 3.37. If Bolt and Lyles were head to head at the 60m mark in one race with their best finishes, Usain Bolt is already making up a meter ahead of Noah Lyles just over 3 seconds later past the 60m. That's only just 40m. Everyone knows how much of a difference a meter is in sprinting in the 100m. A flying 40m which is more than 3 seconds and making up a meter is an extremely huge gap.
Marcell Jacobs clearly doesn't have the ability to accelerate quicker than a 2018-2019 Christian Coleman. Coleman is a focused 60m sprinter after all so this puts Jacobs already in huge trouble. If his best finish is 3.39, that's WAY too far away from Usain Bolt's finishing speed. Usain Bolt was an exception that was above and beyond at what everyone else imagined before 2008. He was able to accelerate absurdly quickly with his massive size and long strides and he's able to use them along with his excellent speed maintenance to finish the race. Do not get me wrong I know Jacobs himself is phenomenal yeah but he's going to have to be an exception and find something truly unique and spectacular. He already has phenomenal technique and form but Usain Bolt was a freak of nature who's quite literally Su Bingtian quickest start+Tyson Gay's best finish (6.29+3.31) and we might not see somebody like him anytime soon. Go see the difference between Powell, who ran a 9.85 and Bolt who of course ran 9.58 in this link ruclips.net/video/LoQq1-_3F-A/видео.html this view tells a lot of things, trust me.
Marcell Jacobs as I said is phenomenal though. He's definitely capable of running below 9.75 and perhaps 9.70 but sub 9.75 is almost a guarantee.

A sort of proto Bolt with crazy long strides - he had a slow start but it looked like the rest of the field was standing still in the last 25m such was his top speed.

To me, Jacobs is like a one-hit wonder. Yes he won the Olympic 100 last year, I'll give him that. But I don't consider him a dominant sprinter among his peers right now. He just hasn't shown that consistency. This year his fastest 100 time is 10.04. That won't get him anywhere close to the podium at Worlds this year. Probably wont even get him a spot in the finals.

Great work. I think your context around Bolt going from 10 sec to 9.69 a year after starting running 10ms might make Marcel’s move from 10 sec to 9.8 more suspicious though. He had done the 100ms for so long and yet had not broken the 10s barrier. What changed so quickly within a year for him ti figure out? On the other hand, Bolt had just started running the 100ms and therefore that drop could have been due to the initial learning that would increase performance much quickly. If he had run 100ms for years and then suddenly seen that performance increase, then that would be more suspicious.

I think the achievement of Jacobs (and others in sprint and prolonged sprint, see the 400hs male and female) is in the ability to exploit to the maximum, with his long jumper's running style with high knees, these shoes. I'm quite sure all the technology to monitor his steps and time of contact has this goal.
So if they will be able to put stronger springs in the shoe soles Bolt's record will be in trouble.
Look what Bolt thinks of these shoes (article appeared in the Italian press just after Jacobs' victory in Tokyo).
I think he talked about going back to racing just to see the effect of these shoes.

9,58 is seriously fast! I think Jacobs could come close, but I doubt he will better it. You don't just need speed - you need the right context, i.e. top form/good weather and wind conditions/great competition/good current mental state. It is quite rare for all those things to coincide, and even if they did, I'm not sure Jacobs is quite up to the task although he may come close. That meeting in Berlin where Bolt ran his WRs was, in my opinion, a spectacle we may not witness again, a bit like Van Niekirks WR in Rio over 400m.

Nope. Not even close. The fastest it could possibly have been is 9.62. it's very simple. The 10 metre segment splits are recorded for the race. Replace the last two 10m splits with the fastest ever recorded, which isn't actually possible over the last 20m, and it's impossible for that race to be any faster than 9.62. it just "appears" as though he slowed down more than he truly did. It was still an absurd display of speed of course.

      No!!!! He would've ran 9.25!!!
Ok seriously shut up. It would've been 9.62 at best. Maybe if someone were to push him (Tyson Gay) with actual tied shoelaces we could've seen 9.59-9.61 but it is what it is.
