    Full highlights from the Men's Badminton Doubles Gold Medal Match between China and Denmark from Wembley Arena on 5 August 2012.
    Badminton made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was not until the 1992 Games in Barcelona that it was officially included on the Olympic programme, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event made its debut in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

      OoooooOoOoOOoooh my GOD.
      If you tuned in to the Channel 9 News broadcast yesterday evening, you’re probably still cringing so hard your jaw is permanently locked shut, rendering you unable to eat solid food ever again.
      I’ll be living off a soup-only diet alongside you.
      Because what started off as a heartfelt farewell to weather girl Bec Judd (who had her last appearance tonight before taking maternity leave) turned into TV’s - nay - THE WORLD’S most awkward situation ever.
      All I can say is poor Peter Hitchener, who helplessly witnessed Tony Jones leant in for smooch of Bec’s perfect cheek, only to be epically rejected and for the moment to be documented and replayed forever more.
      Can we… I can’t… I just…
      AHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S SO CRINGEWORTHY I'm actually howling at my desk.
      Tony, Tony, Tony.

      treksez nah. denmark also played equally well. in fact there was a controversial shot in 2nd set but the judge gave it to china anyway.

    • @pham1020
      @pham1020 9 лет назад +48

      physika It was a tight match but the Chinese were better in all disciplines explosive, speed and defense which is why they won. They were very consistence in the entire olympics by winning all their matches in 2 straight games. That call by the umpire happened when the Chinese were winning 16-12 so even if the Dens got that point then 16-13 was still a good advantage for the Chinese and the chance of a momentum shift is slim since the Chinese were very consistence in that game. But it looked like the the umpire made the right decision.

    • @physika
      @physika 9 лет назад +5

      Quang Pham true, but this is the final so i guess even just 1 point might turn the entire game over in terms of momentum. anyway it was a high quality game indeed.

    Then, if Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng were at their peak in 2006 when Fu Haifeng fired a 324 km/h smash, they would destroy Setiawan and Ahsan. They won all matches of 2006 World Championships in 2 straight games. In fact, Setiawan and Ahsan lost to Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng twice in 2012 as well. They just lost this year because they were off for months and were not in their form as well as they are old now.

      Nah. They are actually on the same level. The Chinese had better form and better mentality and that's why they won. Many say Jung/Lee is same level as the Chinese. However when the Danes beat Jung/Lee, they say the Danes are not on same level as the Chinese. What a "wonderful" logic. Sometimes when a pair beat another pair without struggling, it does not mean they are not on same level. LCW once beat LD by 21-4 in third set. Can you say they are not on same level?

    • @csf3lihao
      @csf3lihao 8 лет назад +6

    I see what you mean. I think since LCW plays with such pace and aggression, it is easy to see him as the aggressor and the one in control of the rallies. Whereas LD's control plays may seem more passive in comparison. But if you watch some of their epic matches again, you'll see that LCW is without a doubt the aggressor most of the time, but LD is really the one in control of the rallie, he dictates the tempo, and that's something LCW cant do at LD's level.

      You should try play badminton with 12 year old asians or danishes and you’ll see how good they are

    i agree with most of that when you say about their styles of play but chong wei was fit enough to keep his playing style the whole way through this olympic final without any sort of loosening up and i say the same thing about worlds 2011. Lin Dans style may be more efficient but i still believe that in the rallies, chong wei is better, but at the crucial points he struggles to play at lin dans standard who plays flawless on important points

    I think for foreigners Chinese words are just like pictures. One of my British friends just have a 美 tattoo on his neck and this word means beautiful. ^-^

      Catherine Zhu hope they also know the meaning 1st in order to avoid any misunderstandings.

      Catherine Zhu yes Chinese words did originate from pictures. Like the word bird was meant to look like a bird. Same for horse, with four legs at bottom. Same as mountain, same as fire etc. Many words were originally based off picture or symbols of what they actually meant.

      Arminius yeah that's probably true, im guessing he majority who get tattoos of Chinese characters probably just know the meaning in English, and got it primarily because it looks good. They probably just pick a character out from like a Template of like 10-20 words, I'm guessing words like honor, love, loyalty, strength, beauty, etc etc.
      I'm also guessing that majority of them don't even know how to say it in Chinese, and probably couldn't even write out their tattoo in paper without having to look and copy it lol.
      I think it's probably more common for the person to tell the tattoo artist a few words that he likes, and then the tattoo guy will look it up and show him what it looks like and what kind of design they can do with that word.
      I don't think people will just pick any word just because it looks good but doesn't really represent them well or honestly

    Badminton does not allow the ball to touch ground, not like tennis, so the speed of badminton play is faster than tennis. All world class badminton players have explosive power, speed and great skills. Always enjoy watch Cai/Fu's badminton play, what a great pair! Cai is so smart, no wonder he is the captain of Chinese badminton team. He will be a superior coach after he retire from the sport.

    Very reasonable pick. Lin Dan had dominated LCW almost their entire career, especially on big occasions such as world championships and Olympics. Lin Dan has over a dozen of world titles while LCW have none. All LCW has is the #1 ranking. We can only say that LCW is a hard worker, and won a lot of 2nd tier tournaments. From that we can see that a player/pair's strength is measured by their achievements and consistency of excellence; whereas the ranking is just a token for hardwork.
