    I agree on the root pruning. I did the same thing with my Monstera when I brought her home and I was scared since I never done that before, but she’s thriving and I didn’t lose any leaves! 🎉

      @LeafyConversations yes it works . I have been pruning roots and all kinds of plants over the years and never had any issues as long as the plant is well hydrated. It makes more sense than to keep putting everything into bigger and bigger pots. Just not enough room. Lol 😆 I have a lot of plants and can't have 30 huge pots with huge plants. 😅

    I think I finally figured out that I’m actually an old person trapped in the body of a young person.
    You probably know your stuff by now, but I’ve had my spider plant for about a year and a half, I started gardening after my wife and I split up.
    After you prune your root system, inside the soil you’re going to add in, mix in 1/4 blood and bone meal pellets.
    I’ve found that the green comes in a brighter green and the leaves themselves hold a degree of rigidity even at length, giving you more of a perky look.
    Granted, I imagine you’re in a humid area, I live in cold af Canada, so I don’t have to contend with that degree of humidity.
    I subscribed, I need to learn more and you’re the lady I wanna learn from. 10/10.

    I have a huge two years old spider plant that is starting to have babies. She's had a rough life. First a year in a terrarium where woodlouses nibbled on her roots, then a month in a muddy bucket. She looked more dead than alive, but she got fresh soil and a big pot, perfect light and BOOM she grew like an explosion. I'm thinking about putting her into semi hydro for her next repot. Do you have any experience with that?

    Exactly what I needed to watch. I have successfully grown a beautiful spider plant that needs repotting but I didn’t want a bigger pot. (I always killed these plants from overwatering…..will, I killed every plant in time) But I’ve had this spider for 18 months with several babies…..some of which I’ve repotted together. But! I need to repot momma. I’m nervous. It’s September but I’m in Oklahoma so cold weather is down the road. The roots are coming out the bottom of the pot. Should I repot now or wait till spring? Thanks

      @@twinfin8571 she will be fine. I've done root prun many many times. Watering her well a day or 2 before hand is the trick. She may look a little droopy for about a week but will snap out of it. I understand about bigger pots. It's hard to make room. And especially when it's a hanging plant. One of my favorite classic plants of all time. Good luck and don't be nervous 😊

      @@tropicalplantmomma . In the past I didn’t have to worry about bigger pots cuz I was overwatering or putting in too large a pot and I usually had to repot to a smaller one until it died. Lol. I’m so happy to learn all these tricks to maintaining a plant longer then 5 months. I have basic ‘easy’ plants now…..spider, snake, potho. I have a birds nest that I haven’t killed yet and 2 arrowheads and ZZ’s. Also some aloe. I haven’t kept any of those alive in the past but so far so good. I destroyed a beautiful maranta down to 11/2 leaves last year but I ended up keeping it alive and it has 8 leaves now in a 4 inch pot. I’m learning! I had to learn to leave them alone and quit messing with them all the time. They’re much more fun when they don’t rot. 😜

    When you root prune does it affect her having babies

  • @21_f_aus
    @21_f_aus Год назад

    Had to repot my curly spider, but didn't prune her roots, which probably would have been ideal but she's doing ok regardless I gave her extra water before she needed it without thinking and a few leaves went yellow but she's bouncing back, growing new leaves, I haven't watered her for a few weeks now it's winter here so I don't want to risk giving her more water and leaves turn yellow again, with new leaves growing that's a positive...
    I love seeing update videos after repotting...
    I still need to find out how to report mine though I swear she's dramatic, especially when her leaves went yellow had to cut a few off then more when more started turning yellow, dramatic or what? 🤣😂

      Lol.. yes they can be very temperamental that's for sure! Mine went a little droopy for a few days but nothing to bad and she's looking good now . I have her out on my back porch in a east window and she's likes it there. Even growing more babies.

    • @tropicalplantmomma
      @tropicalplantmomma  Год назад

      You can but you have to keep the soil wet all the time until the roots grow. I find it works well if you do a layer of spagg moss on top of he soil and keep that wet then the roots will grow right down into the soil. But they root super fast in water
