    Thanks for this video! I had come across the pages and paintings from this book on Pinterest, but I didn't know their names. How is this technique called? I absolutely like it.

      im not sure if this technique has any names, some people jokingly call it the *art academy style* because of the exams... but maybe in the future i will do a video about how to paint in this manner :) i need to do more studies and research for that 😇

    Love this loose, slightly messy style. I want to embrace minor imperfections like rough edges in my work.

      i think minor imperfections are usually super charming to look at :p

    I see you painting with your qouache in a pan. Don’t they dry out? Like 👍 your books. Informative video 🎉❤

      @ultramarine_finest  9 месяцев назад +3

      thank you! yes they do dry out, i will reuse them by spraying more water on top and squeezing out more paint. and wipe them away when they get too dirty, or if im running out of mixing space :p

    I always found this style to be quite formulaic. It reminds me of western ateliers in their lack of individuality.

      yeah thats exactly how i feel!

      I love it! That’s how art school is everywhere though. You learn the “right” way to emulate styles, and then come up with your own style once you’ve mastered the foundations

    It was interesting to listen to your commentary about the context around these books. Having seen you paint in earlier videos, I think this book limited you by providing very unclear instructions .It's understandable if it is used to train students for exams, though.

    Thanks for explaining this style of art I see plastered all over my Pinterest feed! I love it but couldn’t find where it came from or “who’s” style it was. I could tell it was more an eastern approach, but it’s great to see where it comes from.

      thank you for watching :) i recently read that they use gouache to mimic alla prima oil painting during the exams because the finished works need to be completely dry within 2-3 hours, and will be collected and stacked together with hundreds of other students' works. it's fascinating that it created a style of its own :p

      Is there an ISBN number in these books? The Internet Archive often has PDF copies of many books, which can be read or download. Would you mind adding the ISBN number to the video description? I would be glad to share a link to the Internet Archive if/when I found it. @@ultramarine_finest

      @@ultramarine_finest Thanks! Yes, check out the book section of the Internet Archive. They have amazing old books, sometimes out of print, to read or download. A treasure trove! If the books don't have an ISBN, perhaps typing the name and author (tanslated) and choosing Chinese as the language might help.

    I went to Taobao to order a few art books after I watched your previous video. I may just treat them like textbooks to provide the fundamentals and adjust accordingly. I like your watermelon better cos the other one is too loose/sketchy for me😂
