I am E SAN people who live in KHONKAEN, woww I really impress how you guys could handle the spiciness. and THNKS to you guys so very much for being very grateful for all the thai food that mean a lot to us.
Order "Somtum Thai", it's the peanut one. You also can order Larb at any place which sell Somtum. Don't forget to order some sticky rice. It's good pair with any Isan's dish. It help you a lot with spicy or salty dishes.
5:20 Here's a tip for ordering a lime soda. You say Shwepps (but go very slowly, they wouldn't catch what you say in the first try, or you can try say Sha-wepp) or Sprite or Coke, Pepsi. Just go with the brand name and they will get it. Soda means differently here, normally it refers to Soda Singha (you can look it up) so when you're saying Lime soda generally you would get a Soda Singha mix with lime BUT NOBODY DRINKS THAT so typically they will put a red syrup in it to sweeten the flavor which it what you guys got and it's called แดงมะนาวโซดา (Daeng Manao Soda), straight translated to red lime soda.
ส้มตำไทย (somtum thai), with peanut, no fermented fish ส้มตำลาว (somtum lao), no peanut, with fermented fish There is a variation between these two which called ส้มตำโคราช (somtum korat), aka ตำผสม (mixed somtum), this one has both fermented fish and peanut. Korat is a place linking between central Thai and Isan cultures. That is why this variation exists.
Nice food tour! over the past few weeks we found ourselves adapting to the spices and instead of asking for a level of spice we just asked for a number of chili peppers 😋
Thanks! Yes, ordering a specific number of chilis is a good method to get a consistent spice level. In Isan it was also fun to find out though what the standard spice level is when you just order it spicy. And as expected it is pretty high 😁🌶️
Hi couple, welcome to real of The land of smile. Foods and the culture that show simple and slowly life. Love you both because I am practicing English for 2nd language. By the way this Isaan everything for eating and basic life so cheap. Have a good trip friends.
Hi guys. I am from Khonkaen and got some recommendation for you. A vietnamese/thai fusion breakfast at "Aim Oat" is one of my favorite. Their bread with sweet sausage and their panfried eggs are on point. Supanniga Home Boutique Hideaway is a traditional Thai style meal, farther out from the center of Khonkaen and abit expensive but worth a shot. Youll need to copy and paste this one in "ร้านอาหาร โอมเพี้ยง" this is a restaurant I recommend to everyone visiting Khonkaen as their flavor profile is really Isaan style. You'll mostly see grilled chicken around Khonkaen but here they specialise in grilled dry ducks. And their papaya salad is also good. Happy you're visiting Khonkaen and hope you enjoy your time here. Let me know if you have any questions.
Good Evening both of you, Warm welcome to Isan, It is the beautiful region with there are many of amazing foods.. I would like to recommend you all these munus 1 Laab Pra kang( (ลาบปลาคัง) 2 Koi Kai Mod-deang(ก้อยไข่มดแดง) 3. Tom Saab Kra duog-Mu(ต้มแสบกระดูกหมู) 4. Pra chon Lui saun (ปลาช่อนลุยสวน) Please enjoy with these menus #Enjoy Isan trip with all the best for you ♡♡
The grilled chicken you eat is Khao Suan Kwang Grilled Chicken. The name "Khao Suan Kwang" is a district name in Khon Kaen. It is famous grilled chicken in Thailand. And the ingredients for marinating chicken in this recipe are only Garlic, Ginger, Pepper, Coconut Sugar, Salt and Soy Sauce and will be fermented for 1 night The red water you drink is roselle juice And I have a trick to order papaya salad in Thailand for you. When you order papaya salad You shouldn't order that Less spicy, normal spicy or very spicy Because the level and the number of chili per level in each shop are different. The 1st restaurant is less spicy, may use only 2 chili peppers. 2nd restaurants, less spicy, may put 4 chilies So you have to order a certain amount of chili. You'll get the spiciness that's just right for you. I'm a Thai person who doesn't like spicy food. Papaya salad that I eat only has 2 chili peppers. You might start with 2-3 peppers. If it's not too spicy for you, you can add 2 peppers at a time. And you'll find the right amount of chili you can eat.😁😁🙏🙏
Thanks for the infos! That's valuable information with the number of chilis! 😁 We like spicy food, but the spice level definitely varies a lot from restaurant to restaurant, so it's always a surprise how spicy it ends up being 😊🔥
They’re many types of papaya salad, mostly, papaya salad with fermented fish don’t put the peanuts in (we called this ‘Som Tum Pu Plara’ which means Som Tum with fermented fish) and the other one with the peanut is ‘Som Tum Thai’ which is the basic type of Som Tum. By the way, it’s up to you if you like to put peanuts in Som Tum so you can note to the cook when you order it. Enjoyy!!🔥🔥
You guys should visit around Khon Kaen University. kangsadan & langmor a lot of restaurants and foods you can find. If you guys still here Friday-Sunday we have night market at horgan which is convention center in Khon Kaen University.
Hope you guys would visit Vietnam in the future. I recommend you should make a tour Saigon, Da Lat, Mũi Né, Đà Nẵng, Ninh Bình, Quảng Bình, Hà Giang, Sapa, Hanoi & Ha Long Bay.
You guys should make your up to my home town of Nong Khai. Try out some fresh mekong fish and other indochina style food. And maybe make your way across the river to Laos. 😁
We actually went to Nong Khai a few days later, but we didn't have that much time. The border crossing to Laos was closed during that time, but we've made that crossing before 😁
Is Isan food mostly very spicy, or there are many dishes that are not spicy? I supposed the grill chicken is not spicy, anything else? TIA. Also, what month did you travel here? I read that Isan region is very hot, is it really?
@@ZoeandSimon I think it's funny that someone claimed to be the origin of a simple menu like grilled chicken (Gai yang in Thai). And yeah, grilled chicken in Khon Kaen uses developed breed resulting meaty & less fat chicken. Khao Suan Kwang grilled chicken originated in Khao Suan Kwang District, Khon Kaen.
Southern thai food is hot like fire is burning in your mouth Isan thai food is hot like you have an open wound in your mouth and you sprinkle chilli flake on to the wound
As a Khon Kaen person I'm glad you guys came to visit. Next time come visit again. And invite your friends to come as well.

Guys, around khon kaen university there are lots of places for Larb. You should give it a try
Sounds good, we'll check it out next time! 🙂
You can find Larb Moo or a spicy minced pork salad at Gai Yang Rabeab restaurant.
Yes! We were already too full, so we wanted to eat some at the night market, but couldn't find it 😁

I prefer Som Tam Thai to Som Tum Lao. Isaan dipping sauce for gai yang includes chiles and tamarind
Both versions are nice, but the Lao version is a more acquired taste for many people 🙂
This is very great video)
I like TH.

You really study deeo into our cluture.

Having Thai subtitles would be great.👍👍👍🤤🤤🤤
Yes, we would love that, but we haven't found a good way to do that yet, as RUclips doesn't translate them automatically for Thai 🙂
Khon Kaen my home town ;-)
Nice, we loved our time in Khon Kaen! 🙂

Laab is a common dish all over Thailand. All you have to do is order it .Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean they don’t have it.
Yes it's common, I think we just didn't have any luck that day, because we did also ask most market vendors if they have it 😁
Welcome
Thank you! 🙂
How is Isan food in its region (Khon Kaen, etc) compared to Isan food in Bangkok?
I hope visit Isaan next time and I know that local people male sike there
สวัสดีครับ 😁
I don't think Kaiyang came from Laos because of soy sause. 😊
Also fish sauce because fish sauce is product from the sea.
We're no experts, we just read online that it's originally a Lao dish 🙂 So the recipes probably also developed a bit over time.

We'd love to add Thai subtitles, but RUclips doesn't translate them to Thai automatically, so right now it's not easy to do unfortunately.
It's not a problem, brother. I will always follow your videos.
I noticed most of your videos it seems u dnt like thai foods, right?

You both are brave. I’m Thai. I wouldn’t eat that papaya salad with that much chilli.
It was a challenge - but delicious! 😁
