We officially quit our jobs to retire in our 20s! We have always had a dream of dropping everything and traveling full time in a camper van... So, we finally did it!
In this video, we do a complete walk through tour of our van upon purchasing it and then a tour of it after we loaded it and added on a few additional items.
We bought a Ram Promaster (similar to a Mercedes Sprinter Van). Ours runs on regular gasoline. We bought it fully converted, but ended up adding quite a bit of items once we had it in our driveway. We added light bars on the front, side and rear of the vehicle. This is really nice when in dark areas, especially with our dogs. We have over 180 degrees of light around our van if we need it. We added a Thule storage container on our roof rack along with a collapsible awning. On the back of the vehicle, we added a bike rack to put two bikes that we plan to use sometimes, but honestly we have them incase the van breaks down and we don't have cell service (beats walking several miles!) We added a hitch and installed it ourselves to accommodate a large steal crate that holds a TON of extra items that we cannot fit inside the van. This primarily includes: dog food, outdoor table and chairs, Yeti cooler, etc.
On the interior, we added a door that swings open and shut so we can keep the dogs in (or out) when needed, without shutting the entire van door. It creates an indoor outdoor living space. Additionally, we added a shelf that folds upwards. When folded down, it turns into a table that is useful when cooking outside and inside at a campsite.
We were only a few days into our trip when we filmed the second half of this video. We stayed at Hocking Hills, OH. Hocking Hills is a beautiful state park and honestly exceeded our expectations! I'd recommend it to anybody passing through OH.
...... How we are traveling full time and how we can afford it .....
We began investing in real estate just 1.5 years ago. We focused on short term vacation rentals, and listing those properties on such as Airbnb and VRBO. We chose to invest in short term rentals, because the cash flow, or passive income, potential was significantly higher than that of other real estate investments. Our money would work harder for us this way and produce a much higher return on investment.
We became financially free just 1 year after making our first investment. Financial freedom means you have enough passive income coming in each month, exceeding your monthly living expenses. Once we became financially free, we realized that we could soon quit our jobs if we wanted to and travel full time, for as long as we want to. We ended up acquiring 4 total short term rentals, that now produce us an average of $20k per month in income. Just 4 properties! This has allowed us to quit our jobs and travel.
I tell you this, because if we can do it, you can too! If you asked me two years ago if I thought this would be possible for us, I would honestly have told you most likely no... If your dream is to travel, I would say first try to achieve financial freedom through your investments. Your travels will be a lot more enjoyable if you didn't have to stress about personal finances every single day. There are other ways to travel full time! If you are able to work remotely, you could travel full time, as long as you stop at places that provide access to the internet to perform your daily work functions.
Everyone's path is different, but just remember to set your goals high and believe that you can achieve them. No one is stopping you, but yourself!
