Excuse me ma’am, not to be disrespectful or rude but could you please take post down. That is my sister who was killed by a metra train. And it this post is very disrespectful. Idk who you are or if you even know her but I need you to take this down please.
These were just from Ogilvee Station and north part of Union Station. Union south and two other stations handle many, many more than what you see here.
This video was fantastic! I loved seeing 3 or 4 or even 5 Metra trains at once! My favorite part was on the lower line when all three tracks would be occupied. I want to see a full 2 hour one to see all the trains.
I noticed at the first timelapse, that there were a lot of non-stainless metra coaches still in use! The business car at 1:27 was a nice find! not too many private cars on Metra! 2:12 I've never seen a Metra light engine before! 2:30 a 2nd light engine?! I just noticed the El train to the far right at 3:09! 4:42 nice to see a repainted F40! MrBnsftrain you really studied the video! I’m glad you noticed the El Green and Pink Lines running in the background. I don’t know how many people picked that up! I would love to live in this building and have this out my window every day!! Thanks for the great comments!

Great vid! My wife and I take long distance AMTRAK and Union Station is our main connection point. We always go to The Junction so I can have a beer and admire the gorgeous bartenders. But, both of us enjoy watching the commuters grabbing a quick drink. I've had some good conversations with them, friendly people. What is amazing, though, is that we watch commuters running up to the bar and the bartender has their drink in a brown paper bag to go. They know a LOT of their customers and are very efficient in rapidly serving them. The Station is nuts at rush hour! Metra moves a hell of a lot of passengers for sure.
I enjoy watching the hustle and bustle during rush hour also! I'm not a commuter, but I take a few rides occasionally, and also take Amtrak a few times a year. (It's so different now, I'm sure. I hope it gets back to normal soon!)
Great 👍🏻 vantage point for filming. Lots of train traffic.I really enjoyed seeing the old Chicago and North Western train car. It is clear that lots of work went into identify each train 🚂 route and destination. Great work.
That is the club car. It has been elegantly remodeled inside. It has a full bar and waiter service. Members pay a $10,000 membership up front and a hefty annual fee. In addition, they have to buy a regular ticket. Everyone leaves at Lake Forest.
That place reminds me of the shibuya intersection crossing in Japan. The bridge structure is I think why it reminds me of it. In reality there’s no similarity but somehow it reminds me of it.
Thank you! When I went swimming at my friends place and saw the view from the pool deck, I knew I had to come back and film it!! I’ve even debated moving to this building!
It’s mind blowing when you think of that compared to European services. You’d see that level of service that the whole of Chicago sees at just one London main terminus, and there’s multiple main stations in London

Thank you for the memories it was very entertaining, and your time lapse is perfect. I could have watched another 12 minutes. One should review this video again just to observe how many CTA cars passed by in the background. But I found the watching the people, cars and truck pass by at street level enjoyable. 1:29 Car 553 operates twice daily on the Union Pacific / North Line between Chicago and Kenosha, Wisconsin. The car is operated as part of an agreement between club members and the Union Pacific Railroad (which operates Metra trains on the UP / North Line). While in the past, membership was exclusive to wealthy "North Shore" families, it has since become open to anyone who pays an annual fee of $900, in addition to the fees for Metra's monthly pass. The car arrives in Chicago around 8:00 am, and departs for Kenosha shortly after 5:30 pm
I would totally live there. Chicago is a land of great things: big trains, Screamers, mechanical bells: even the crossings have real mechanical bells. These are things I rushed to see on the MBTA and now we have junk. Metra just does things right. If I can't live there, a proper live stream is in order. If I can, there's a pool and I'm good with it.
In a country that unfortunately seems to be moving away from rail, in favor of automobiles, a video like this really warms my heart, knowing that rail travel is still alive and well here.
Guys I rode Metra for many years and I really appreciated all the conductors I worked with no matter what and I know that I'm able to make it where I'm at now

can the rest of our North American cities reflect off this? also the one thing i noticed most and was surprised about was, i didnt notice 1 person run across those tracks when the crossing was closed.... Chicago has people that arent stupid, HAZAAA!
chuckufarly5 you must remember that Chicago is blessed as the rail and air hub of the US and this has public transportation as such to boot. Us Chicagoans don't mess with the trains. Especially since they provide along with the Pace Bus System, the CTA L Trains and Buses a very rich public transportation system
Yes, as a childhood model railroader, backing trains up seems dangerous and prone to derailments, but Metra and a lot of commuter trains use the push/pull method safely, even through all the switches and around very tight curves.
8:50 look closely at the track the F40 (upper left) is on, is it safe for another train to be tailgating it that much? Or is it a Metra thing? Never seen anything like that.
BNSFGUY7777 I’ve seen this a lot, especially just outside of Union Station South tracks. These are empty trains, going to the station to begin service for the evening rush hour. They are sometimes only a few feet from the train in front of them.
What an amazing railfanning spot. Definitely on my bucket list. It never ceases to amaze me how few cars are let through before the gates descend again. Honestly, I'm surprised that for such a big city, there isn't more traffic backed up, and also that the level crossings there still exist. I feel like by now they would have at least attempted to construct an underpass or bridge, which would honestly be the safest and smartest option. It wouldn't be as fun to railfan, but I'm sure the city would appreciate it.
loki352 I couldn’t believe the view when I saw it the first time! This pool deck is so amazing for watching trains! I also have a morning rush hour video and I will post a real-time video of this afternoon rush hour eventually. In answer to your thought about crossings, I know Tokyo has a few road crossings close to major stations where the crossing arm doesn’t go up much during rush hour.
@@Luke_Starkenburg Judging by Google Maps, I assume this was filmed at the "Alta at K Station" apartment complex. Do you live there, or were you just visiting (since I'm assuming only residents can gain access to the pool)? That's an amazing view and I'm honestly jealous of anyone who lives there. And with the rails wrapping around the building, I can't imagine any room providing a bad view. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, a lot of level crossings on the Caltrain main are being considered for conversion to bridges or underpasses. Not much has been done so far, but I assume a lot of it has to do with the ever-clinging on California High Speed Rail proposal and the electrification of Caltrain. Also, we've got chaotic drivers and terrible commute traffic. And I forgot to say, this is an amazing video. It's so satisfying to watch and really gives a good insight on how Metra rush hour is at the Canal Street level crossing.

I was in SF and decided to check out the new-ish BART extension to Antioch using the diesel rail cars. Nice cars but inconvenient for the riders to change trains.
Funny watching it sped up especially with the fast bells. Trains are like "Dingdingding I had too much coffee this morning and im very late must go go go"
Love to see my local rail-transit provider running engines all over the OTC Area! (I use the Northwest Line to McHenry/Harvard) Saw Amtrak, METRA, and A lost looking Union Pacific Yard Switcher All in about 10 minutes and the beginning clips.
I heard from someone that Metra is going to buy the three UP lines. There have been negotiations about a new purchase of service agreement between Metra and Union Pacific. The UP has said that it wants out of providing passenger service and wants to focus more on freight. Metra and UP have been working this out in court and by the way it looks, Metra will have full control of the UP lines.
To be honest, there was just a little bit of guesswork when notating the different trains. I wish there were LED signs on the train cars or engine saying which train it is. When I'm boarding a train at Ogilvie or Union Station in downtown Chicago I have to triple check the boarding platform for the train I want. When you are on the platform, you need to make sure you board the correct train on the left or right side. There are no signs on the platform or train. The signs are in the waiting hall, on either end of the platform. If I'm unsure, I'll ask a passenger or staff where the train is going.
This is the most satisfying thing I have ever seen. Great job!
Thank you!!
You two are very awesome thank you very much.

Wow that is a lot of trains!
The Special car is my equipment for my morning trip. Cool video!
The Union Pacific engine?
Ah, cool.
The CNW car on M314.
Great video! Especially hard to denote all of the specific trains/numbers with the empties in the mix.
Luke Starkenburg Haha, yeah. Also, that would be awesome, like how they have it on the Electric line, exactly.
Very impressive video! :)
Cool bro,feels like heaven
