Hey, Andy, welcome to the AMOK hammock family. I have been using mine for over a year now. Own 3 of them - love the XL Ultralight the best. I think you will love it on your trip. A tip for getting in and out if you wish - always make sure your weight is balanced in the middle/center of the AMOK at ALL times and not toward the head or foot of the AMOK. Then it is easy to get in and out.
I have tried many different ways but as an old man of 70 years, I have found when getting in that if I get my right knee in the exact middle/center of the AMOK leaning with my head toward the head of the AMOK so my weight is over the center and then slowly gently roll in. it works perfectly. (my wife and daughter say it looks funny when I am getting in - but it works really slick)
Then to get out simply sit up, making sure your butt (weight) stays as close to the exact middle of the hammock as possible and make sure that you don't shift your weight toward the head or foot end, simply swing your legs out over the edge of the AMOK and put your feet on the ground then push straight up with your hands from right next to your bum like you're helping lift yourself up from a chair with your hands and just stand up. Don't push the AMOK backward with your hands as the AMOK will just swing away from you and leave you to fall as the support is above you in this hammock like a swing would be.
I tried all types of ways after watching all the videos on RUclips and this way - for me anyway - is absolutely the easiest and for me now the only way to do it. It took a couple times to make sure I was really centered before I simply pushed down with my hands and stood up. But after doing that a couple times and making sure I was centered as I said it was easy to balance and easy to stand and is almost second nature to me now.
(IF your AMOK is hung too low you might have a problem but if you have it about 15 to 18 inches from the ground WHEN YOU ARE IN IT, standing up and keeping your balance should be easy with just a couple of practices.)
Hope all those words made sense - and help. I have taught all my grandkids - though they are so limber they just kind of hop in and out - and my 40-year-old daughter who wanted to figure it out for herself - but finally after struggling by sliding out the bottom and struggling to get centered, decided to let me help - After one attempt using the method as I have tried to describe above, she had absolutely no problem getting in and out.
As I usually have to get in and out at least once in the night for the obvious reason, this method is a life saver for me so I don't slide out, or have to roll out onto my knees to do my business, but simply stand up and then roll in easily half asleep.
ATB Andy - and the food looked delicious - Oh if you want I can make a video for you on how I do it. In fact, I need to post it on my channel come to think of it, since I haven't done that yet.

A tip on splitting your firewood to save time and your back, I take a bungee strap and stretch it around my bigger wood rounds then split it . That way it does not blow apart a you have to pick up every piece 20 tines each . Later mate

I put a DD hammock ground sheet underneath which gives me something to stand on without boots whilst getting in and out. To get in I stand to the left of it facing the foot end, grab the middle strap on the right with my right hand and the middle strap on the left with my left hand then kind of slide in. You get used to it, finding your centre of gravity gets easier. I do the same getting out.

The trick for me has been to get a big one. 10-11ft length minimum (I’m 6’2 )with a good sag setup using a structural ridgeline and underquilt, no mat.
