Nothing fucking “derailed” Eric Roberts. The man has been in HUNDREDS of films, A list to D & even on the soap opera, The Young & the Restless...he’s been in music videos from Mariah Carey & Rihanna. The man even went on an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap & he was on Celebrity Rehab for marijuana “addiction,” as well. I LOVE Eric Roberts! He’s my second favorite actor & he never left. Just because he will work in nearly any role does not mean he’s been derailed. If you ask me, he’s awesome for being so consistent for 4+ DECADES.
easily one of the most disturbing film, I have ever seen, and also an amazingly great film, and Eric Roberts lack of an oscar nomination, is a mystery.
emma duncan I haven’t seen it but his performance is so widely admired that I can believe it was worthy; but considering how tragic the subject matter is and how fresh those events were in the minds of Hollywood at the time of the making of the film, I don’t find it mysterious at all. Oscars are pretty politically motivated which I credit to the idealism of artists in general. They aren’t known for celebrating portrayals of themselves as a bunch of exploitative predators though they are now known to be exactly that. They may not mind films that are cynical about soldiers and preachers and cowboys, but not about themselves. Do you expect the dedication to examination of our culture extends that far? Maybe my view is colored by recent disclosures but I think they really give the cold shoulder to anyone who criticizes the crimes of the elect. Remains to be seen if anything will really change or if they are just sacrificing the weak to protect the way of life they have always had. I’m pretty intrigued about Roberts. I get the sense that in a meritocracy he would have won the award hands down.
Cannot wait to watch this introduction.. Fosse's last film and arguably his greatest. Of course every one of his films is a 10 plus. Earlier this year in Los Angeles i went to a two night Bob Fosse Festival.. night one was All That Jazz and Cabaret, and night two was Lenny and Star 80. I love Fosse on the big screen, the only problem I have is his movies eventually end.
A stage/choreography person, who, as it turned out, would be a genius filmmaker, too (who knew?). He only made five films -- wish he could've made more -- but all of them stunning.
when I saw the film for the first time it made me so sad for a while and I cry and I did not like Eric but he is a great actor in this film this is a true story and she is like a butterfly flapping her wings insight a glass and she can not brake it to escape poor poor little butterfly
Star 80 is a STUNNING ACHIEVEMENT, and should be a very famous film, and talked about today, but sadly, really isn't. Film aficionados know how great this movie is, but the public at large doesn't. It's a dark movie, of course, but so what, it's a great film that should be seen and appreciated like other classic films. Hopefully, one day it'll attain the status that it deserves. It took a while for "Vertigo" to get the recognition it deserved...initially it was not considered anything special. So, "Star 80," if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor, and watch it as soon as possible.
Banovich started dating Dorothy Stratten sister when she was 14 he married her when she was 20 Dorothy Stratten show could pick some creepy guys I tell you I'm just glad that the sister woke up in divorce Peter bogdanovich

Eric Roberts utterly dominated STAR 80
How the hell is this masterpiece film not out on blu ray yet?

I have to add Mike Nichols to the list of directors who made huge impacts on theatre and film.
eric roberts is underrated
as an actor
This was a film about Paul Snider
Fosse makes a bold choice presenting Paul in a sympathetic light 💡
He alone makes this a compelling film
This film is a stunning achievement.

Why are comments turned off for Linklater's review for "the Pope for Greenwich Village"?
Its not as if its some overly controversial film..
I read that Fosse convinced Roberts to make Snider somewhat likeable
You're doing me a big favor!
7:55 - It's funny that Richard references Lenny Bruce here because Bob Fosse directed a movie about Lenny Bruce back in 1974 called 'Lenny'.

Mike Nichols had that impact
