  • Only my 2nd 10K official race, not a time trial but an official race course. Can I set a new PB or will I blow up by going out to hard at the start. My shoe - Alphafly 1, filming still with the GoPro hero 9 and meeting some other runners and youtubers on course. With good weather - Its set to be a cracker !

    Great Vlog of a wonderful day. Lovely to meet you and well done to yourself and Mrs RTP on the big 10k pbs. We'll be there next year as it's the England Masters competition race.

    That was really, really good overall performance - I want to have the same result in three weeks when I'll run 10K in Warsaw. But having said that I must say that plan for this race was "not perfect" to say it gently. First four km were with average pace 3:50/km - with estimated result 38:20! I think your lactate level in blood went up quickly and you slowed down in next 6km - as last 6km were on average at 4:17/km. If you started at 4:06/km then you would speed up in second part of race (I know it's hard to start slower - when you fell strong in the beginning, crowds are cheering, it's hard to run slower :) ). But such approach gives better results and even better feeling at finish line - when in second half of race you're passing by those who started too fast and are fading :)
    OK, let's see if I will be able to keep that technique on 27th July, I want to have sub 41 minutes, will try to start exactly at 4:06/km and keep it for 5km at least, then if possible try to speed up :)
    Congrats again, overall result is really impressive!

      @@LeszekDeska thanks for that 😀 it's so down hill for the first 3k and basically flat for the 4th, so that's why I went that strategy. I'm not a 10k racers so robably the sensible approach you say would be better. I didn't feel any discomfort in the first 4k, maybe I should have pushed a bit more 😂
      wish you luck with your 10k, I'm sure you will do it right and hold back. I thought you'd be sub 41 already actually considering your marathon times are so good, but maybe your a bit like me and prefer the longer distances.

    • @LeszekDeska
      @LeszekDeska Месяц назад +1

      @@RunThePlanet ah it explains all - if it was so downhill then it was the way I would also go for (to keep the perceived effort level reasonable in first part).
      We'll see how it will go for me, sub-41 would be my goal A for that race, it will not be easy - according to Daniels calculator 41 minutes for 10K is equuivalent of 3:09 in marathon, I'm not at that level (anymore ;) ). But I will try!
      Good news for you is that as you ran that time from marathon training then it *should* be possible to run that 3:10 marathon. Only to be honest those running calculators for us, amateurs, do not work too well ;)

    Great effort Matt. The guy who was 1st is from up my way. I spoke to him briefly after a 10k last month. He was really close to getting a sub 30 in that one! Great to see you grabbing a PB. Marathon training will help you PB over other distances. You ran in Alphaflys? Never thought I’d see the day!

      @@kennyosborne5835 thanks Kenny 😄 I've had these alphafly 1s for a couple years and only use them for 5k and 10ks only got a 200 or so Kms on them. Too much calf strain on them for more than a 10k for me. But the newer ones are 8mm drop... 🤔
