7 months is a very long block. You should build a great fitness base.
@@tworunningbrooms thanks, hopefully it turns out to be the best block I've ever done 😬
Looking good Matt!! Keep up the great work. Love the videos
@@ThePlantPoweredRunner thanks Dave and thanks for sticking with it, took a while to put together this one 😂
Sounds like a great choice and plan to run Valencia again. Maybe sub 3 is the goal! Excited to follow your next 3 months of training, Matt.
@@RunFreeandStrong not sub3 but 3hr10 or about there would be more than enough 😃
Exciting. Should be a good day for you.
@@tworunningbrooms thanks for your support ! I'm sure I'll do better than last year 😂 with a 7 month build up I should have a better chance, let see. But first next week at the GNR - let's see what Mrs run the planet can do 😃
@@RunThePlanet are you running with her?
@@tworunningbrooms if she lets me 😂
Nice one Matt. I hope the week has really helped you to rest up and refresh mind, body and legs. I'm having an easier week this week before doing the last section of building up long runs for Yorkshire Marathon. Really looking forward to your Valencia training.
@@deansummerton2577 thanks Dean 😃 seems your on the same plan or same rest week as me 😂 hope it goes well for you at Yorkshire. Are you going for a time ?
I'd be delighted with 4 hours 30. My PB is 4.38 at the moment mate.
@@deansummerton2577 I was a 4:38'er at one point. I'm sure you can comfortably go under 4:30
I’d love to do Valencia. Hopefully I’ll get in one day. Great stuff Matt.
@@kennyosborne5835 yeah I think you should, you be a sub 2:30 guy there inm sure !
I hope to do Valencia one day. Looking forward to watching your training block!
@@Mack.Tracks thanks Mack ! If you can get there it's great, there's usually about a 4 week window before they sell out so you have to be quick when they open it up. Fortunately it's not a ballot and first come first served (apart from last year's entrants get first choice. But it's getting busier every year (you probably know all that 😂
That's great news :) ! So we will meet for sure there, really good to hear that :) Do you have plans already what time you want to achieve there? I'm looking at my current shape and I think that 3:15 will be possible, I'm trying even to run MP during trainings at 4:30/km (which would be 3:10 time) but 3:15 would be already big success... I will check my fitness few times now: 2024.09.07 Praska Piątka - 5km here in Warsaw 2024.09.22 Dublin Half Marathon 2024.10.02 Biegnij Warszawo - 10km in Warsaw 2024.10.27 Półmaraton Szakala (Jackal Half Marathon) - close to Łódź in center Poland, that will be just for fun in rough terrain with my wife, so no testing of fitness I have 5km, 10km and half during my Valencia training plan - that should give me good idea what my possible goal race pace for Valencia should be... I'm running less - for now 70km a week, will try to go up to 80km but I don't think I'll go beyond that. Godd luck and see you!
Thanks Leszek, I'll be going for 3hr10 again. I'm sure you'll get whatever time you want, the course is very fast and especially if you can handle a little bit of heat (cool start last year but warm in the end). You've got a busy Sept/Oct schedule good luck 😃 See you there !
@@RunThePlanet Thanks! If everything will go smooth for me in training then I'll try to run the same time - we will surely meet in start corral then :) How is it with accommodation and flights - did you had problems last year to book them? I have direct flights from Warsaw only I'm thinking if I should book it already now or wait to get better prices? I need 5 tickets as we go with our daughters...
@@LeszekDeska I think you can get accommodation but it's expensive to be within walking distance to the start line (but aren't all the big races like that). I met someone on the plane on the way back, he stayed in air b&b for very cheap and booked it late, but I like to have it all planned out sooner. For corals you need proof of time (a recent race) to get on the front corals. There's about a 3:15 to 3:30 one (can't remember exact as the time band is strange) but I'll be in that one I think.
@@RunThePlanet I will also book in advance evrything as I can't risk b&b for family of 5, same for tickets. About starting coral - I'll check if my time from Hamburg this year (3:17) will qualify me to a good spot, surely to 3:15-3:30. Sometimes they accept time from half marathon, I had god one this year (1:31 in Warsaw) maybe that will help. It would be better to qualify to that coral which is sub 3:15, then I would stand in the end of it and had much less people in the start area... I will post a comment here or on strava if I get more info on that.
Hi, what did you have during the race? I noticed something in your hand…
Thanks @@hky1717 😃 it's a while ago but I had 5 Maureen gels and 1 sis gel during the race. Also I used the nuun electrolytes drink offered on course. Did you run it or are you thinking of entering ?

@@RunThePlanetyou deserve it mate. Rest well
I used similar sweets for my carb loading before London. Decent for carb loading but not going to take them in a race. Good wee experiment to try though. Thanks for that.
@@kennyosborne5835 thanks Kenny for your experience. I think carb loading could be good but in a race it takes too long to absorb, at least into my body 😂
Good stuff. I’m still desperate to know if you have a winter marathon booked! Still places available in Frankfurt. How could you possibly resist a marathon that finishes in a nightclub type arena?!
@@kennyosborne5835 thanks Kenny 😄 I have a marathon booked I let you know very soon. Sorry to keep you waiting. Frankfurt finishes in a nightclub 😯😯 Not sure I could cope with that, I'd be looking for a shower after at least 😆 but happy if you like it, go get it. What time are you planning on running ?
@@RunThePlanet it’s a big building arena type thing with music. You get a feel for it on RUclips. There are showers there too so I think it’s pretty well set up. I want a PB. Will see how the next 8 weeks go. 2:42 maybe.
Best wishes for the GNR!!! I'll be running the Yeti 100 mile ultra on September 27 and the Kodiak 50K on October 12.
@@RunFreeandStrong thanks Reto 😃 100 miler, sounds like torture but such a big challenge, it will be rewarding for you for sure !
Matt, when your video showed up, I thought that Haribo was sponsoring a 40K run LOL. Great long runs and, as you said, a confidence boost to know you can finish fast. Almost taper time!
@@RunFreeandStrong thanks Reto haha, it would be great if haribo sponsored an event, I'd run it 😃
Old school runners used to take a jelly baby every mile of a marathon. But thanks for doing that experiment so we don't have to 😂😂 Have you thought about the OTE super carbs drink during a run? I've never had an issue with energy when using that.
@@tworunningbrooms thanks for that 😃 Im sure taking enough haribo often enough the body could adapt 🙄 Yes Ive been thinking about some carbing and carb loading methods. I saw Will (WU) do some carb loading for MCR which looked to work a treat. Ive seen you talk about the OTE stuff too which I should give a try. Forgot to mention in the video I was using the marten drink 160 too, not sure how that compares to OTE. I'd also love to see you and other RUclipsrs trying out the haribo "gels" 😂 you need a jaw like hulk !
GNR is next up, but main goal race is Budapest Marathon in October. Then plan on hibernating over winter - focusing on strength work and zone2 work on the treadmill.

@@kevinscott4938 how are you Kevin ? hope your runnings going well 😃 haha yes we can all get behind a haribo run, I'd love them to sponsor a race somewhere, and ofcourse provide the in race fueling 😂😂 Oh yes lucozade sports beans, might be worth a try, seems they only sell in boxes of 24 or so
@@RunThePlanet check out start fitness, and just search for jelly belly and you'll find a smaller selection if the ones I'm talking about.
Looks like youve found your marathon shoe. Maybe give them the race day test at GNR?
@@tworunningbrooms it's tempting but I don't want to put anymore miles in them 😂 a 10k and 40k run so far. That first 100km is precious. I'm not buying another pair of these 😂 (he says) so I'll have to make a call based on this I think. The GNR would be tricky with the hills, maybe I'd get close to the 90 mins but if I didn't break it it would be a waste of the shoes life I feel, particularly because my best chance is in Manchester in October.
Thanks for your kind comment on my race today Matt. Keep your Alpha 3s fresh for a big occasion. Next marathon maybe.
@@kennyosborne5835 no probs Kenny, you were flying !! Alphas, Maybe so they'll definitely get something, great to hold pace when legs are tired at the end. Some marathon or half somewhere I'm sure 😃😃 😃😃 end of the month I'll let you know
Hi Matt, your continued training progression is impressive. Would be interesting to share how often and for what workouts you run in carbon-plate shoes. I've been considering a carbon shoe for my track workouts, but I'm worried about injury risk. Thoughts?
Thanks Reto, thats a good point. Since they (carbon plates) arrived, shortly after people started raising concerns and reporting injuries. In short I think you should try carbon on the track. For me its never been a problem, but I use the vaporfly mainly which are so soft, they are very accommodating, they are narrow at the front (the 2 more that the 3 though) and soft so allow me to run more on the outside (ive done alot of work to reduce my pronation by ankle strengthening (although its not major pronation I have). I also use a foot roller after every workout (picked it up from Seth DeMoor), and stretch and foam roll the calfs after ever workout, I think that helps (never has plantar fasciitis, though may have come close once or twice), I think this is why I avoided it. So I basically use older vaporfly for my long slow runs (25-40k runs), more comfortable and forgiving so the recovery is much quicker. Shoe life is good, I'lll get 1000km (600miles) easy though not so fast later on. The carbon effect is almost gone by 700-800km. For up to around 20km, if easy then I use anything older - ZoomFly3, DeviateNitro, Endorphins (all carbon). For up to 20k workouts I'll still use vaporflys (sometimes the Endorphin's). For track workouts I also have a pair of Dragonfly spikes but they are too small (watched a review that said go half size down), turns out as I like a tight fit I was essentially already half size down, often I can only get through half a workout in them 🤣 but im interested to try them again with recent my track gains and see how then compare. My slow runs tend to be that slow, that probably doesn't matter what I use and definitely no benefit from the carbon but also no risk I think, but I seem to have quite a few old carbon shoes. Maybe I should make a video on this thanks 😀 (why I use vaporfly for basically everything 🤣
@@RunThePlanet Thanks Matt for the comprehensive insights. Much appreciated and valued coming from an experience runner! Yes, I think this would be a great video because I imagine many are thinking about incorporating carbon shoes in training and racing, but the injury concern and determining the balance of carbon vs. other trainers would be very useful. Thanks again.

Really hope you do well and best of luck. Valencia will be amazing, I'm sure you'll show us how it's done 👍
Well done Matt. Keep at it. I’m very close to confirming a marathon for winter.
@@kennyosborne5835 thanks Kenny was a funny day at the track. Great to hear your winter marathon is almost sorted 😃
Great video to watch. I'll be running this marathon this year. You should be proud on your performance. You've ran a marathon! Great job!
@@johanpauly3154 thanks Johan 😃 yeah it was a great marathon, glad I did it and I will go back someday. I want to do better there next time 😁 Hope your training goes well and wish you a good race !
Solid workout, Matt, especially refocusing after the splits started drifting up. The heat and humidity are definitely a factor, it's 35 C here in Connecticut (in the shade). Great progress and you'll be sub 3 soon.
@@RunFreeandStrong thanks Reto, a come back 😁 sub3 is coming soon I hope !
You pulled that back well after drifting from 2:54 to 3:10. I wonder what you could manage for one flat out 800?
@@tworunningbrooms I know 😂 happy with it, some reps the wind had me, others I didnt get it. Heat was the killer though. Well my PR on Strava for a half mile is 2:38 from the GNR last year I think, downhill part probably though. So maybe that's about right on flat knowing there's nothing more to do after that. I've been meaning to try an 800 PR attempt at some point.
Excellent vlog Matt. Two PB's is absolutely phenomenal. Huge congratulations mate, you deserved it 🏅🏅👏👏👏
@@deansummerton2577 thanks Dean 😄😄 One of those days where you go for broke, expect to loose, but win 😄 couldn't have been better. See you at the GNR this year ?
Totally brilliant Matt! Well done on your shiny new PBs and great to meet you too! Onwards to great north run 🎉
@@PoetWithPace yeah thanks Donato, please to meet you 😃😃 you didn't do too bad at all, kept seeing you at the turn around points. Might be harder to find you at the GNR, but I'll keep my eyes peeled 🧐
