If you travel to a country which has been designated as prosecuting hostage taking then you must sign a waiver acknowledging and accepting all risk involved, including the fact that there will be no attempt to secure your release if taken hostage.
I had an adventure in USSR Moskva in 1979....They were a down-trodden people back then. I don't think they can break free as a society, unless they learn from the Ukrainians what it takes.
I don't think free countries should actively punish someone for traveling anywhere. But we certainly should make clear that there will be NO efforts to free them if they go despite travel warnings.
It's not the Russian brigade that is fighting this time. This seems to be an effort to take land to trade back in future negotiations, not just an incursion where they fall back once Russia gets it's act together (somewhat) to take back the area. If those Russians would be taken as POWs, the Russian would treat them even worse than Ukrainian POWs (which is difficult to imagine, but if Russia is competent at anything it's brutality/savagery/cruelty).

Quite pleasing to hear Mr Browder, one of the very few western people who really experienced Russia, AND learnt from his experience. This said with a sad memory of Boris Nemtsov, who way more than B. Navalny was a real political threat to the Kremlin criminal syndicate, a critic of Russian invasion of Crimea from the start, so he got disposed of much earlier and expeditiously.

If you travel to a country which has been designated as prosecuting hostage taking then you must sign a waiver acknowledging and accepting all risk involved, including the fact that there will be no attempt to secure your release if taken hostage.

Russians fighting Russians brilliant
It's not the Russian brigade that is fighting this time. This seems to be an effort to take land to trade back in future negotiations, not just an incursion where they fall back once Russia gets it's act together (somewhat) to take back the area. If those Russians would be taken as POWs, the Russian would treat them even worse than Ukrainian POWs (which is difficult to imagine, but if Russia is competent at anything it's brutality/savagery/cruelty).
They're Ukrainians, not Russians.

As usual BB is on the money, always hits the nail on the head and gets it right.
Dual nationals taken hostage in a country they are a citizen of should be a risk the person elects to take if there is a travel warning or ban.
Personally I think the government should:
1.Publish a list of countries that it will not negotiate with should you travel there and advise you not to travel there.
2. If you’re a dual citizen and you’re taken hostage in a country you are a citizen of (assuming that country is on the above list), you are on your own.
3. If you’re already in the country when it makes the list, be advised and supported to leave by a certain date or you are on your own.
Quite pleasing to hear Mr Browder, one of the very few western people who really experienced Russia, AND learnt from his experience. This said with a sad memory of Boris Nemtsov, who way more than B. Navalny was a real political threat to the Kremlin criminal syndicate, a critic of Russian invasion of Crimea from the start, so he got disposed of much earlier and expeditiously.
Now this was a clickbait of magnitude... 3 secs of discussing the offensive, and half an hour of discussing prisoner exchange.
