Conscripts with moscovian parents that now will be captured, wounded or killed. Wounded inhabitants of the Kursk region are now treated in hospitals in Moscow. There will also be people leaving the Kursk area and moving to family in and around Moscow. Suddenly the effects of the war are visible in Moscow. No amount of censorship is going to hide that

Ukraine is his business. It's his last chance to realize his grand ambitions. He'll only leave Ukraine alone when NATO troops push him out. No, the Ukrainians alone can't do it. See the draft dodging and the lack of material support from Western countries. But NATO won't do it. So where does that leave this war?

Now it depends if Belarus are ready to extend this agreement again.

During their incursion into Afghanistan, the Soviet Union lost 15.000 well trained, well equipped soldiers, recruited from all over society. The 600,000 casualties in Ukraine so far are mostly untrained, poorly equipped, and mostly recruited from prison, abroad, poorest regions, drunkards and so on. It may very well be that in terms of the effect on the fighting force, or even the labor force, they lost more in Afghanistan. Of course, the same can't be said about the equipment lost.

Thinking on this topic needs to evolve. To say that Russia still has an equipment advantage is kind of shaky. Ukraine is still getting new equipment and still developing equipment. Russia's access to the world is highly compromised. Ukraine has stymied Russia by taking the 'vaunted' Black Sea fleet out of equation, without warships of its own. NATO has been quietly getting ready for this day. All the facility and road projects required to move close to a million NATO troops to the Russian border are complete. Russia knows they can't beat NATO, Russia's nukes haven't been very well maintained, Putin is better off negotiating.

With dwindling support in the West for the Ukraine conflict Zelensky had little choice even though Ukraine's limited resources meant it had to risk a new front within Russian territory
"It's very risky and Ukraine knows there is a price to pay: Russia will launch counterattacks, and no one knows whether the [Ukrainian] troops will be able to hold against superior firepower
Military blogger have repeatedly warned their high command about Ukrainian forces massing along the border in the Southern Kursk region, but that the Russian command failed to prepare for a potential invasion.
Russian authorities may have been aware of Ukraine’s pending raid and used it to their advantage as Citizens in the region desperately plea for help against Ukrainian killings in the region and starting fires in Russia's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant
