Ben Hodges - The Siege of Crimea has Begun as Ukraine Takes Control over the Black Sea and Coastline

- Strikes on Russian oil refineries have a significant impact on Russia’s ability to conduct warfare. Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, Commander of U.S. Forces Europe in 2014-17, stated this during the 16th annual Kyiv Security Forum. “Of course, attacks on oil refineries have a significant impact. Russia is less able to pay for this war, and it also deprives it of the necessary fuel to continue hostilities. I would recommend ignoring the calls for an end to such attacks.”
The Lieutenant General emphasized that sanctions against Russia need to be strengthened. He also added that 2024 will be the year of industrial competition. “Ukraine and the West should win this competition. I am talking about of course building up ammunition supplies, but also moving forward maintenance capabilities so that the Ukrainian soldiers can fix forward equipment that is broken or damaged on site, as well as increasing their ammunition stocks.”
According to Hodges, Ukraine should put pressure on Russian logistics, particularly in Crimea, to make the peninsula unusable for Russian troops. “I would not expect a dramatic drop in Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. The job of (new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) Syrskyi will be to stabilize the situation on the front line, but industrial competition will play a role here, while the Ukrainian army needs new units to ensure rotation”.

Thank you both! At this point, I'm completely mystified that our "leaders" aren't seeing exactly what Ben Hodges has seen. Our free world is up against the wall.

Now we're knocking on nuclear war, and the stupidity of mass delirium is saying "Let's keep it up, Russia won't do it". The Minsk Accord was to stop this WAR before it even started!!! THIS IS OUR WAR, WE BEGGED FOR IT. Now let's see how many of our friends and allies will die for our eternal anti-Russia doctrine.
2 of my favorite people. I am apoplectic that Mike Johnson has prevented our Ukranian allies from getting ammunition and aid. How shameful.
Same. That man is a traitor to democracy.
Excellent use if this word, which describes my sentiments precisely, but also towards every other nation of the world!!!
They need to stop waiting for the US to do things - if the EU stepped up and gave Ukraine all it needs this could be over tomorrow.
The democrats voted with the Republicans to replace the speaker. Democrats knew they wanted to replace with hardliner against funding. McCarthy would have pushed it through. Democrats empowered the republicans to block aid, they're just as responsible. They sold out Ukraine for a cheap politcal victory and get zero condemnation for it.
Exactly. As an American I am disgusted with my country's betrayal of our Ukranian allies. I am emotionally involved with this.
The US is the biggest supplier of military weapons in the world with 41,7%. The next country is France with 10,9%, then Russia with 10,5%, China with 5.8%, Germany with 5,6%, Italy 4,3%, UK 3,7%, Italy 2,7%.. How is the EU supposed to help Ukraine with military needs??? The EU is helping with taking in millions of Ukrainien women, children, elders giving them shelter, work and money to live and send home. Just like the arab countries live off selling their oil, the US lives off selling their military to the world. So it is a disgrace that Trump is keeping the US from supplying Ukraine with munition etc.
Love ❤️ Me Some Ben Hodges .. NATO has him working on logistics .. there is still Hope 🙏💙💛🔥
Ben Hodges for Prez. Someone in charge that's sensible and 'young' - he fits the bill for both sides. AND BONUS POINT: He has experience of the trenches!!
Hodges is no warrior; he's a bureaucrat, and a dishonest one at that. He qualifies as President though, being at least as senile and obtuse as Biden is.
He’s a Republican, so no.

I want Ben Hodges and Col. Douglas MacGregor, and Scott Ritter to meet and sit down at a table together, the conversations could be interesting between them, since I hear something different from Ben Hodges, different opinions, different view from the other two I know well.
Do you mean convicted sex offender Scott Ritter?
Well, let me ask you something: How can the Ukraninans get Crimea and Donbass back, when they have less soldiers and equipment before the counter-attack last year? What did the Ukranians back at the counter-attack? A small village? Scott Ritter and General a.D. Kujat (Germany) has more knowledge, than this Hodges (every single one of them).

Don't give up yet.
Russia is led by a real man. The West is run by drag queens.
The archives tell us that nazi germany wanted a general European war, it didnt want bits of territory, it wanted to overthrow the international order. Hoping putin will stop isnt a policy.
It's depressing seeing how our politicians dither and cower, yes.
How can we show strength? This whole response is born out of weakness and fear. Russia was never gonna invade Europe and no one even knew that Ukraine existed until the fearmongering started so this isn't about compassion. If fear controls you, you are weak. How will you show strength? These are the people that support prolonging the war and here are their fruits. Bon appetit!

Ben Hodges comments at 29:00 shine the light on a lack of US political will to lead and follow through. It is embarrassing and disgusting that they have the gall to shake a finger at Ukraine on their successful attacks against Russian oil refineries while refusing to do what's needed to end Russia's horrendous warring attacks against Ukraine.
The notion that crude oil prices won’t go up if Ukraine attacks Russian oil supplies, because the attacks are on refined oil and not crude oil, reflects a pretty profound misunderstanding of supply/demand.
General Ben Hodges. Run for president! I am listening for you for a long time. We need someone like you.

I wish any state leader was as intelligent, wise, and well spoken and caring as Ben Hodges!
Yes the “caring” warmonger
Both an excellent interviewer and excellent interviewee. I wish more of the politicians themselves could think with such clear logic.
General Hodges' willingness to participate in key organizations, as well as accept interviews readily accessible to the public is much appreciated. Regarding the Suwalki gap, why there is so much fretting over a ~60 mile section of border between Poland and Lithuania? That it is the shortest path between Belarus and Kaliningrad could pose as much a liability for Russia as an asset. NATO has 'boatloads' of defensive assets nearby, likely making it the WORST place for Russia to attack. If they did, NATO would declare 'open season' to invade Kaliningrad, sink all ships, and block use of the Baltic sea. Russia then must deal with a long, very narrow 'finger' of forces surrounded on 3 sides by NATO. That sounds like a nightmare for Russia.
Dont forget Russia's cyber war against everybody.
California is the worlds largest source of cyber attacks
Says who?
Well they do hack GPS in European flights

As an American, this entire MAGA congress policy blockade, don't attack Russian oil production, don't attack Russian territory is shameful and embarrassing.
With such politicions Hitler easy yould had got leader of the whole world.
There are many ways Biden could get around the Congressional road block. But he just lets it drag out. He’s no better than Johnson or Trump.
They probably invested money in Russian oil production and now they trying to protect it. The same was going on during WW2. American investors were protesting bombing of certain German factories for the same reasons.
The only rationale for western sources discouraging attacks on Russian oil refineries is a potential increase in gas prices in the U.S. during an election year. Losing the white house is worse than a several months ban on those attacks.
Concur. I'll reluctantly vote for Trump, but I hope he'll be smarter than his supporters are and make opening the American energy sector a primary objective. If Pedophi|e Joey had done so early on, Putin would have been beggared & destabilized last year.
Furthermore, Pedophi|e Joey could actually, I dunno, *LEAD* by rallying conservatives to support Ukraine & facing down the handful of Froot Loops like MTG who are believing Kremlin claims. It's pretty hard to pretend Russia should be anything but an international pariah once one becomes even moderately familiar with the vast assortment of crimes against humanity being conducted in the ethnic cleansing of Ukraine.
EDIT - I'm generally shadow banned by YewTub
My Scottish ancestors came from the Gunn clan, whose motto is “Aut Pax Aut Bellum,” - “Either Peace or War.” Ukraine’s allies need to prepare for war. We can’t be complacent.
There is a key phrase the general used; "political courage". This is key. Most politicians are cowards by nature (politically, I can't speak to their physical courage). Courage comes in the form of doing the right thing, even if it might mean the end of your political career. There are very very few people in government with "political courage."

Your guest Ben Hodge is quite a brilliant guy and an experienced military. His comments are clear and cleaver. I live what he's saying.
Being Danish, I'm painfully aware that blocking Russian ships would be a violation of international law. We can't even demand ships to have a pilot. We give tried that for half a century. So it's not as easy as the general make it sound.
Indeed it would not be a violation of International Law to insist that any ship that does not meet safety and inspection standards NOT be allowed to transit. It is done in other places and ports all the time. Denmark has the right to insist, in its waters, on Pilots and Standards. That you claim otherwise is based on ignorance of the law or simply displays your unwillingness or fear.
@@americanpatriot4227 According to an old treaty from 1857 Denmark is obliged to give free passage to all ships sailing to and from the Baltic Sea without demanding polit or any other restrictions. Only if ships are sailing to or from a Danish port we can demand pilot. Prior to 1857 the Danish kings would make a fortune by blocking the Danish passage to the Baltic Sea and demanding ships to pay a toll to pass through. England and other countries forced Denmark to abolish the toll and the treaty from 1857 were signed.

Like so many other initiatives: it took Joe Biden to complete the job. Any thinking person knew it would not be accomplished without tragedy. The sooner we withdrew, the sooner the killing of americans would end. And we were not defeated. Perhaps the more accurate assessment, rather than a 'lack of strategy', is the strategy of remaining willing for the People of Russia or wherever to solve their own problems with the disenfranchising authoritarianism. It's their bell curve (and ours too) of trust and mistrust of the complexities, variabilities, and uncertainties that are the lifeblood of the healthy democratic republic. The need to feel in control by authoritarian control is more important (to about half of the bell curve) than being aware of and trusting the processes of sharing control in the exploratory give and take of a democratic fellowship.
Ben Hodges makes complete sense, keep up the great work
Thank you for interviewing a very intelligent person who predicted this long ago.

Thank you for this show. Listening LtGen Hodges has renewed some of my waning confidence in the people who control the US military. All we ever see of them on news are the politically reliant people who are part of the government, and who have to filter all their comments through the political aspect. If you're a student of history, it's not hard to realize that what they are saying borders on idiocy and makes one wonder if they have any capability. Hearing Hodges views seem so realistic as an assessment of the threat Russia poses to us and how our chess game with them on the issues are failing miserably. Hearing his sensible and realistic evaluation of the threat Russia poses to us renews some of my confidence in the ability of our military leaders. Everyone in this country should watch the documentary that is available on streaming service, "20 days in Mariopul" to how horrible it can be to be really at war.

This is why we need people like you running the country. You know what's going on. Please help find us some true leaders and save our country
Ben Hodges: "Jonathan, you should have your own podcast. These are excellent questions."
Ben's right. We need to take this more seriously. The ruzzian imperialist war.
Ben Hodges led us to our defeat Iraq and Afghanistan. He may be “right” but he’s a yes man who’s opinion is about as credulous as Russian propagandists
That man is mentally challenged. The US overthrew the Ukrainian government in 2014 and has been filling the Ukraine with weapons ever since.
The US Imperialist War. Former US State Department official Mike Benz: "when the dust settles, we will find out that Ukraine was the largest CIA operation"

Tremendous interview. Thanks Silicone Curtain and Ben Hodges!
Respect for the great analyst General Ben Hodges.
Has he gotten one thing right?
Sheep in a herd, you don't know Ukraine from Adam. ...Wouldn't know that Russia offered everything back to Ukraine, JUST DON'T JOIN NATO.
Had a long conservation tonight with a German guy who repeated over and over again all RUS narratives / talking points. He was neither a Putin puppet nor a far right winger, just an ordinary guy. I told him what B. Hodges says in the first 3 minutes: we are already part of Putin´s war. He didn´t get it. I´m frustrated. There are so many ordinary ppl who have no clue abt what is going on. At least good soul Ben Hodges lifts me up a bit 😌...
I am a german and i know he is right. But i also noticed that the US lost every war they were engaged after WW II. from korea ,vietnam cuba lybia irak to afghanistan. Not by there brave military, but by there politicians. And now they sacrifice the ukranians youth. And if i look to the upcoming elections we will probably have the the most disgusting political leader of the western world ever. The GOP followers would even vote for Caligulas horse to avoid Jo Biden.
And here in germany, we also are in big trouble. The political system is about to crash. A lot of the politicians here dont even have any decent education. Most of them never had a normal job.
And last not least we will get an islamic party, wich will have a big influence in german politics. All this together makes me really hopeless.
Find other, more bright Germans. First question when u hear such crap is, 'what sides do you have in your browser history ?'
He, obviously has been a victim of russian propaganda channels.
@@farrider3339Feels like people putting their heads in the sand. If they want the information it's out there. I think a lot of us consume this information and have heard both sides but some ordinary people have no clue what the stakes are which is insane with how serious this situation is.
Well General hodges I think your knowledge and skills are very important to me and I am looking forward to seeing the end of this war,I'm too old to go back to work so I'm going to be supportive of all your work and you have a lot of answers to the issues in Ukraine please convince America and our allies this is what we need to do thanks for your advice and support good luck you are a champion for freedom in Ukraine cheers
A sensible and professional conversation about real maters. He who fails to plan plans to fail.
Gen Hodges for President. What good sense. What perseverance.
I'm a simple man. I see Ben Hodges, I click.
🤡
I see you are a simple man of culture as well
I’m a simple elderly woman (77)….I do the same…
So do I.
Good for you Madame !! - I dare say you would constitute a better choice for America than the current two in the running. Respect !@@georgettelevesque277

I love listening to Ben Hodges. He is so clear minded and to the point. Great man!
I wonder how many poor Ukrainian boys were inspired by this man. Inspired to go and die for American military industry.
Definitely, definitively spoken to the point, let's stop WW3, by stopping Putin, nasty little Tsar elf he is! USA hasn't given anything but old military material, that mostly would need to be scrapped in the next decade or two! Barley touches 5-6% of our stocks! 🇺🇦💙🇺🇲

I love him too. Brilliant military mind.
This interview was so good. Really great, thoughtful questions that could get real, thoughtful answers.
I watched TVP World's interview with Hodges yesterday and the interview structure seemed like SUCH a waste of this man's time. The silicon curtain interviewer is miles ahead, so, so pro and good.
Jonathon Fink is so smart that he goes above most people’s heads, let’s face it. The level of education in the U.S. is so dreadful, kids that graduate college can’t even understand plain English. Even Ben Hodges, who has been living in Europe for some time, is head and shoulders intellectually above most American generals of his rank, which is why all the European channels love to interview him.
To have Ben Hodges be President of the U.S. would be a dream come true!
I’m so proud as an American to have him speaking to the world on behalf of my country. 🇺🇦🇺🇸
I found Hodges explanation of how helping push Russia out of Ukraine also helps solve the issues with both the Houthies and Hezbola (because they're funded and supported by Russia) to be very prescient. Especially when considering how closely China is watching to see whether they could pull off an invasion of Taiwan.
Where is the discussion about Ukraine retaking Crimea?
Some good talking points, but your thumbnail is misleading.
Every word of questions is very well-chosen and answers are right to the point. Brutally honest. Please note that we are not in TV interview era any more, and finding a way or ways to have more viewers of these spectacular conversations is vital. I hope other channels on youtube which support Ukraine and free world in general, understand the importance of giving link to them. Many thanks
I wish all politicians of democracies listened to him and act according to his wisdom….
So do I.
Breedlove too
If u r listening to him there would be world war three he should look in the mirror of the invasions he has done the list is endless
Never forget that all politicians only care about is their personal security and how to make money for themselves in the process. The war at this point doesn’t harm them and is making them money under the table.
While I don't think A-10's would be that useful for Ukraine in current circumstances, however I wonder could the 30mm cannon, radar, and other parts be used to "Frankenstein" some C-RAM like anti-air defense systems out of them, I would think something like that would be possible and very useful for Ukraine!
Every western leader, or wannabe leader, really needs to listen this guy and understand how important, as he says, is clarity of purpose.
Patriots for Ukraine!
armchair ones.
Ben Hodges has been one of my favourite if not the absolute favourite military commentator. His softly spoken but hard hitting feedback is always welcome and I can verify that he has been complaining from no more than 6 months in from the start of the War about the marked lack of stated goals and strategies to to attain them.... I find it extraordinary, it does feel like Neville Chamberlain going to Hitler in 1938...
Same😊
"Lukashenko's army couldn't defeat his police force" That comment by Ben Hodges doesn't just have the ring of truth, but it's damn funny with it. Jonathan, please keep getting the quality of guests you have so far managed to. I enjoy watching/listening to your channel partly because you have the time to go really in-depth with your guests. Keep it up.
😂😂😂
Why doesn't General Hodges run for president? Please? Your country needs you sir.
Hodges should run for President, he is more qualified to be President than are the two primary candidates.
Hodges is a globalist shill. He chooses to live in germany rather than the usa........I think that tells you about his loyalties.
😂😂😂 He should run for clown show .
As an outsider, it's hard to imagine two primary candidates less qualified than those in question -much the same as here in the UK. God help us all..
@@Diwana71I doubt you can even run your own life. Bug off.
He prefers to live in Germany. For reasons...
Ben Hodges is a star.
The Russian Federation occupies a vast territory; it has land borders with 14 countries, but it only has a population of 144 million. Can we assume that part of the Russian mindset (paranoia, xenophobia, aggression, arrogance etc) is a result of knowing that they could not possibly defend their territory if it was attacked? Slava Ukraine!
💯💯💯👍👍👍
Time for Russia for using the Security Council as a psychiatrist then.
This is why they are attacking Ukraine 🇺🇦
They were vulnerable in 1917, 1991, and 1941. The west helped them. The way putin talks, you would never know it.
Errrrm, you do know that Russia has multiple times defended its vast territory from attack, most notably consigning both Napoleon and Hitler to the dustbin of history. Both times it ended up taking the capital of the invading armies - Paris and Berlin.
Now think for a moment, if as you suggest 140m population is not enough to defend its territory, then how many would it take and to hold that territory?
As I already said though, Russia historically has been the graveyard for invading great powers.
Such good common sense! Thanks Gen Hodges.
Lack of “clarity of objective” is WHY we have lost EVERY war since WW2! 😤🤮😭🤬
General Ben said one comment, that made most sense.... still to many people with their head in the sand?
Unfortunate but true!
