Why Bother Replaying Video Games?

- So I have been away for about a month, and replaying lots of games, and while I am now making progress on my backlog finally, I am glad to have had some genuine fun replaying a lot of these games.
But does replaying these games really matter? Why should you? All of that and more will be discussed in today's video.

Achievement hunting has helped me get much more playtime out of games that I really enjoyed, I remember in borderlands 2 seeing a few things I missed purely because I was going for one of the weird achievements! I think this vid really nailed why it is fun and comforting to replay games and makes me look forward to replaying Celeste soon even more! :)
I'm glad! Always a great feeling to replay those childhood classics or just really good games :>
Even as a kid I've held replay value to such a high standard. The games I played were fun, they were enjoyable, and even when I got a stuck at a certain part I would simply boot up a new save and replay the game to where I got stuck. Especially when your younger and don't have the means of getting new games, it inherently drives you to replay the ones you do have more. There really all you have at the end of the day, and again it all ties back to the experiences themselves being fun and engaging enough to spark that urge.
Great vid dude! Per usual!
Thank you! Partly as a collector rebuying games I lost/sold, has made me slow down and look at the hundreds of games in my library and either start somethin new or replay games again and again. It's almost just how most kids grew up back than but I cherish the games I have and the experiences obtained through each replay.
Excellent video. Replaying video games (or just revisiting any media like TV shows, movies, albums, etc.) does something to the brain. Replaying something you are already familiar with helps you feel safe, happy, and a feeling of comfort because you already know everything thats about to happen. Its psychology baby!
Yeah comfort is the word that best sums up the real "root" of why I enjoy replaying games. Psychology is WILD man!
I hope you blow up. I've been watching your videos here and there pertaining to my interests and they meet my metric for walking my dog. Which is a pretty high bar. I may not watch every video due to not being interested or otherwise not wanting spoilers for games you talk about, it seems like all of them are genuinely good by my standards. I hope you keep making videos until you reach a large audience and onward. Especially when they are about general gaming concepts. Those videos are my bread and butter and how I found this channel.
This legit means a lot, and while I kinda looked away from my RUclips analytics and stuff for a couple of days for my own sake... This just makes it all worth it. I have two videos on 2 particular games coming out soon-ish and more stuff coming after so please look forward to it :3
You NEED more subscribers!
I wish I could just use my level 10 fishing skill in Stardew Valley to reel those subs in...
But all jokes aside I'm glad you think the stuff I make deserves to have a bigger audience!
I AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT
I agree
@@Brianycus THANK YOU !!
@@kingslothVR123 Thank you !! :D
hey man just wanted to say that this vid was pretty good and was surprised to see the viewer count
Super mario galaxy for me. I replay this game at least 1 time a year to admire it's beauty and the fun times it gave me as a kid. Nowadays i breeze through the entire game in an evening but I still ove every second of it
Same though!! I try to replay Galaxy once every year and have fond memories booting the game up even now :')
Nowdays I tend to view a game's worth based on its replay value. Can I go back and play this game and find new ways to play it? Or is it a one-set-done deal? This video made me realize that our childhood was on the former than the latter where we would always go back and play the same game over again because they were fun.
No matter how old I get, I'll always make time to play childhood games and even as I get older these modern games I love will just be as important to me. Replay value is so vital.
Gaming back in the day was way harder. It was more about improving skills and raising your score. So you'd play over and over to brag to your friends about your hi score. As time went on, it became more about story and spectacle. Today the majority of gamers want a story and to just have fun, which is fine. But the prospect of getting a high score is no longer a factor, and most modern gamers dont replay games
I find that so sad but storytelling in games is a lovely thing sometimes too! I enjoy games that can provide both elements and most of my favorite titles all balance those aspects quite well.
Often, I like to make the game artificially hard. Me and my friends have a competition on every game to see who can play through with the highest difficulty, and sometimes, the most handicaps.
Such as playing through mass effect or kotor with level 1 equipment, no mods, and only the basic version of ability upgrades on highest difficulty.
Just found your channel and can already feel the love you put in these videos. Safe to say im gonna stick around and see how far you'll take this channel. Excited to see more from you in the future
Glad you found my lil home on the internet :3 Feel free to stay as long as yoo like! I'll have new videos next month ish
I replay all the games from my childhood. I also replay Hollow Knight ALL THE TIME. I am obsessed.
I'm glad it resonated with you !! I love replaying games loads and still do all the time :> Replayed the hell out of the original Jet Set Radio and love Hollow Knight as well!!
Gamestop Credit for real isn’t worth it 99% of the time. Regrettably sold some copies that to this day i want to play again off from memory. Skate 3 being one of the victims. And omg the xbox power supply note lmao can’t be helped since at some point I’m gonna be in the Catherine rabbit hole lol. Really great video man!
Gotta get Skate 3 again but my collection took a major beating from trade ins/selling.
Richards note alone is the greatest piece of history I have ever read LOL
Always think of games as "one-and-done" experiences. Still, would be cool to get into a mindset that doesn't involve finishing a game then going to yt to watch others gush about how good the game is.
Cheers to your thoughts.
Getting into the mindset of replaying games if it's not something you do normally can take a while. Some people like me replayed games more out of need simply cause I couldn't afford many games growing up.
And the og 7 fnaf games I always return to because they are just great
I have no idea why but this video felt so nostalgic and comforting at the same time despite only been watching your videos for like a month or two. This video was amazing I can't wait to see what your opinions are in future videos
Thank you :'D I'm glad you find the videos I make as comforting and are enjoying what I have put out there!
FUCK YEAH GAL TALKS ABOUT THE MF RE2 REMAKE REPLAY EXPERIENCE
The GOAT tbh!
I've personally never been able to replay games no matter how much I enjoyed them, glad others can get something out of it though.
Yeah it isn't for everyone but glad you're so happy others can replay games!
@@VirtualMementos It's something enviable in my eyes, my distaste for replays is so bad it essentially forces me to play all games one by one, any hiatus or something like losing saves in a game kills any chance that I'll finish it even if I was enjoying it.
Another top tier video like always!
Thank you !!
I replay games when I find them fun enough to do so.
This is me and Batman Arkham Asylum.
The game is so satisfying to play and is in the sweet spot of not too long/big and 100% completion isnt controller snapping frustrating/tedious.
I never played many of the Arkham games but loved Asylum from what I played on the 360 back in the day!
I just enjoy them... nothing special... I just enjoy it...
Summed my 3AM essay in a sentence. LOL
Once I play a game I will never play it again. I have no nostalgia for anything and god I hate every game you mentioned. But I can't stand 99% of all games and genres so I don't think I make a good character study
It's all good, people are different and that makes things interesting for discussion lol
For me, I love replaying games, but I have conditions. Usually, I wait a year for story games at minimum to replay.
When I do replay, I try to challenge myself by artificially making the game harder.
