A few years ago I saw my father at the computer with tears in his eyes. I was scared and asked why, so he showed me this video. He was 15 years old at 71 and watched this performance with his older brother who was on the team of sound engineers. What a privilege! I also cried ... because I was born too late 😭😭😭 My dad watched ALL of Led Zepp and Page / Plant's performances in Japan. I don't know who is more fanatic about LZ, my dad or me ...
I was also 15 in 71. Was a NY Yankee ballboy and Led Zep nut after seeing them live the first time. I saw them in 71, 72, 73 75 and 3 times in 77. 7 times all in NYC. My kids ask me all the time for stories I can tell. They love LZ. You brought tears to my eyes. This is the closest live performance of Stairway as it had recently been recorded. Plants voice is epic! Thanks for posting
Thanks for your story. It touched me. The reason why I uploaded the entire bootleg record about a decade ago was that it did something to me. I don't know what or why, I just felt the urge to share that one and make a proper presentation with images of that band era out of it. I struggled a lot at that time and creating this kind of footage helped me to cope with it. I come back to it on a regular basis and it flashes old memories linked to it. All the best to both of you!
Greg K this is wonderful! You have seen LZ live many times !. How many emotions you have lived, many good memories you have to tell your children. Just like my father. My uncle, the sound engineer who worked on the band's performances, also had many fond memories of the guys. My biggest emotion was when I met Jimmy. He came to Japan many times but I was always traveling on business, so only in 2014 did I realize this dream that I had since I was a child. I thought my heart would stop when he smiled at me ...
ZiSt1989 thanks for sharing! STH is special to me because my mom was listening to this song at the time I was born ... I'm 34 years old now and I've heard this song thousands of times and I always get emotional. It is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded, a true masterpiece. The best for you too!
@@marciashiraishi5891 yes indeed, stairway truly is a gem. Like a journey to a part of your soul, it definitely does something to me, gets my thoughts moving and inspires me to a certain extent. I turned 30 years last year and about 15 years ago a friend of mine introduced Zeppelin to me. First thing he's put on was 'Communication Breakdown' and this one tune was enough to convince me for more. It became a passion and Zeppelin will always be a big part of my relaxation and inspiration habbits. You've met Jimmy in real person?!? How cool's that! I'd act like you if that happened to me I guess. Shaky feet, no clear thoughts, although I'd know what to chat about with him (nothing Zeppelin related, though). I once attended a Jazz concert by Dana Gillespie. I bought her new record on the spot and they were sitting there, having a break. I went up to them to get my copy signed and have a chat with them. Somehow we came to talk about Zeppelin, and she, Dana, told me she knew Jimmy very familiar and that he stopped by at her place in London to hand her a couple tickets for the Reunion London O2 arena gig in 2007. She stated she knew Jimmy for about three decades, then, and that he was a very charming, friendly and handsome man with Gentleman manners. That's as close I had ever come to Jimmy Page, lol
The best version ive heard. Maybe because the song was still new and fresh for them to perform. From 7:00, Plants high voice crawls under my skin and Bonham loses his mind. Or maybe its me losing mine at 8:38. I was born in 1970, so it was not to be. I would give a lot to see a video of this version.
Every time I hear an obscure Zeppelin recording I go through the same thing, I listen transfixed, I marvel at their genius, I'm so grateful I was part of that when they were still here, then I'm sad that it's gone. If you missed or never understood the magic of Zeppelin I feel sorry for your loss, they weren't just a band they were a movement.
@Perfect Stranger Yeah, it was 1966 when they stopped touring. Who was out there playing 1-2 hour shows at the time? Also, take out those songs with string instruments and they're catalogue is miles ahead of everyone else's. I find it hard to hear an interview where Robert Plant or Jimmy Page don't mention the Beatles. Interesting isn't it? Fans will always, until the end of time, compare their favorite band to the Beatles. There's a good reason why.
It just before the album Four symbols were released so we hear this song the first time in this concert. このとき初めてこの曲を聞いたわけですが、その直後にアルバム4シンボルズ(LZ4)が発売されたわけです。。感激でした。
A real privilege indeed. Bet most in the audience did not realize they were hearing an iconic rock song that would become a classic, once and for all, after the LP was released so many weeks later. Plant is in fine voice this night. Thanks for this great post.
It’s just incredible how good John Bonham was … man … what a loss to music 🎶… he so inventive… with a monster sound … thank god people share these wonderful recordings…. It’s sometimes all that matters …
Today 23 Sep.2021,I went to the live of Mr. Jimmy at Roppong. He played the same songs as the live in Tokyo of 23 Sep. 1971. It was really fantastic. We enjoyed the live very much. He is amazing. We support Jimmy Sakurai.
The man is a genius !! Saw him with Jason in Canada a few years back......incredible as he can do sets from different eras of zeppelin like BBC or HTWWW or TSRTS or even Knebworth Mr Jimmy is the closest thing on earth to Jimmy Page !!! Uncanny.
I remember the first time I listened to that one. I was hot on '71 bootlegs and stumbled across the short, yet incredible Japan Tour. No comparison to the '71 US tour prior to it. I sat there in awe, listening to Tokyo and Osaka a consecutive week in total and felt the urge to share them.
It's just so raw and downright amazing! I wish Jimmy would acknowledge and release other shows than TSRTS for the 4th or 5th time. We get it, it was a great show, but there's so many more epic shows Jimmy.
