    Looking for more topspin on your backhand? Try out this two-handed backhand grip that really shuts the racket face which is how Rafael Nadal hits his backhand groundstroke.

    good clear instruction. I'm just moving to a double backhand and have been told to have more of an eastern grip with left hand, It doesnt feel right, I;ll try the Nadal one tomorrow!

    I've always been a one hander and have started trying two handed. One of the things that totally changed my shots was how I gripped the racquet with my right hand. When I have the butt of the racquet almost resting in the lower most part of my palm, I get tremendous control and power. If I hold the racquet how I normally do in a forehand, the two hander doesn't seem to work for me. Just moving my grip down a bit totally changed my shots. I'm not sure why this is, or if this is even the correct way to hold the racquet.

    Hi Brady, as a one hander thats trying to switch to a 2 hander (yes i giving up on my one hander after 8 yrs because i'm tired of slicing higher balls or backing up). is it okay to keep the eastern backhand grip with the right (non dominant hand) with the index knuckle on bevel 1? i find the acceleration a bit faster as my left arm turns over quicker with my right hand grip like this, but not sure if this is a path i shouldn't go down. thank u

      A grip change is almost mandatory if you're making a switch to a two-hander. In my experience it's better to just rip the band-aid off and go with a new grip with the new stroke. Best of luck and keep me up to date with your progress!

    i personally put my index knuckle of my bottom hand bettween the bavel 2 and 3, like if i take a hammer.
    Is it too extreme in a way of not enough top spin? Just to know if i have to change my grip or not , cause ur grip seems very unconfortable for me

      Louis Le vu Your grip is pretty close to the grip that we described in yesterday's video. That grip is good and generally better for driving the ball yet you can still get plenty of spin with it. Remember generating any kind of spin is all about the racket path!

    Thanks Brady for all the great videos you have posted on this channel. They helped me a lot to improve my game. Regarding grips, I too play with the forehand and backhand grips which Nadal uses in his game. However, during fast paced rallies, quite a few times I find myself in the wrong two-handed backhand grip which ultimately leads to less aggressive shots and/or errors. I tried to analyze from Nadal's videos on how he switches between his forehand and backhand grips during rallies, but wasn't able to figure out the exact technique. Could you please share your thoughts on what would be the most efficient way for switching grips ?

      +Kamal Verma - semi-western on forehand & two-handed backhand grip. When you hit a forehand, you're already holding the semi-western grip so all you have to do is take your non-dominate hand off. When you hit a two-handed backhand, you're already holding the semi-western grip so all you have to do is take your non-dominate hand & let it move into a continental grip (same as your volleys). Voila! You'll be ready for forehand or two-handed backhands without much movement of the hands & your two-handed backhand is also setup to make a one-handed slice (continental grip).

      +Jerry Christner gr8 explanation of the core idea. I know this definitely works for many ppl. But somehow I used to struggle with this during fast rallies. Holding the racquet with semi western forehand grip and using the other hand to hold racquet throat in the ready position is giving me better results now. With this the only addition to your explanation is to drag the dominant hand down quickly before hitting a backhand. Nadal seems to start with this ready position as well.

      +Tennis I Like It !!! - Actually, my dominant hand is already in position so you don't waste time (both forehand & backhand dominant hands are in initial position). So, it's not on the throat of the racquet at startup but down where it should be for semi-western grips.
      The only change comes from my non-dominant hand (i.e. let go on forehand, move to Continental on BH). The more you can reduce movement, the more time you can concentrate on hitting the ball!

    I use this grip for my two hander and I've been debating changing it to the standard grip like what Djokovic uses. This grip isn't great for low balls and I find myself hitting one handed slice a lot instead of my two hander.

    • @DailyTennisLesson
      @DailyTennisLesson  5 лет назад +3

      It is tougher on low balls, no way around it.
