    Sisters are doing it for ourselves! Looks great. Thanks Margot for sharing, I’m about to consider a horizontal screen using cedar and as it so expensive I can’t afford to mess up, so your tips have been very helpful. I’m trying to make it as a surprise for my other half, but as the slats are heavy I’ll probably have to get another “sister” in to help. I think my hubby will be over the moon he’s not had to help.😂

      Hi again Rachel, I just remembered that Glynn put the sizes in the video at the start when I am explaining the tile baton. It pops up so quick you probably missed it. The size is 19mm x 38mm and it came in lengths of 4800mm that I halved to make two screens. I could only fine one sawmill locally that did that size so you may have to shop around or use a different size. I hope this helps. Cheers, Margot

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  3 года назад

      High Mick, I’m not sure what you mean, remember I’m a total amateur. If you mean you don’t have a fence yet, only the posts, I think it should be possible to put a screen fixed between each pair of posts but without a fence behind the screen it would be too flimsy I think. Cheers, Margot

  • @shellynboys

    Absolutely brilliant, can I ask the total cost please?

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  3 года назад +2

      Hi Shelly, the wood cost me £72 from a local sawmill. The black plastic membrane was from a leftover role of weed inhibitor I already had lying in the shed. Sorry, I can’t remember how much the paint cost and the nail gun and nails are my husbands. I know he got them from Screwfix but no idea what he paid for them but hammering in ordinary nails would be cheaper but take a bit longer. Hope this helps.

    It's very lovely. Thank you for the inspiration. Could you please tell me what the membrane is made of? Is the membrane sun resistant? ♥️🌻♥️

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  Год назад

      Thank you for the comments. The membrane I used is plastic weed barrier but sorry, I have no idea if it is sun resistant but it has not faded in a year. I used that because it was lying in my shed from previous garden work . Otherwise I would perhaps have used something else that is black/dark and durable. Wish you well with your project.

      I bought the wood from a sawmill called Gilmour and Aitkin in Jamestown in Scotland. The black plastic was a role of weed inhibitor I already had lying in the shed. I had bought it from B & Q about ten years ago. The paint I ordered off amazon. Hope this helps.

    Roughly what was the cost of the material back then ?

    • @safemovies

      The total cost back then was £74. It will cost more now but still a fraction of what they cost if you buy them out of a store.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. Please can you tell me how you decided on the size of the gaps between the slats.

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  3 года назад

      Hi Wendy, Margot here (I'm using my husbands channel). He worked it out when doing his first one by adding the width of the baton plus the thickness of the baton (which was the gap). He kept adding that sum until it came to two metres which was the height of the fence and that worked out to 32 for the size of baton we used. It didn't come to 2m exactly but when coming to putting on the last six batons at the bottom, I just spaced them by eye and you can't tell they are fractionally different spaces. I hope that helps.

    Please could you link the tile battens, price and where you purchased from Please.

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  2 года назад

      Sorry, Margot can't remember the price she paid for the battons exactly but thinks it was around £75 - £80 but the cost of timber has gone up dramatically since last summer. She purchased from a local timber yard called Gilmore & Aitken in Jamestown near Balloch.

  • @ajducey1868
    @ajducey1868 2 года назад

    Dimensions please?

    • @safemovies
      @safemovies  2 года назад +1

      The batons, if I remember rightly, were 4.8m long and were cut in half to make two easy to handle screens. The 32 horizontal batons created the double, side by side, screen which is 1.8 high by 4.8 long. hope this helps. The ones I used from a local company were 22mm x 49mm but most timber merchants sell 25mm x 50mm which will still work. Hope this helps.
