🇫🇷 Les membres d’Emperor font partie de ces musiciens d’avant-garde qui - en alliant style et ambition - ont contribué tout à la fois à la naissance d’un genre, à la création d’une légende et à la définition d’un art.
Fondé en 1991, Emperor a conquis les fans de black avant de devenir l’une des figures de proue de toute la communauté metal. Inventeurs du black metal symphonique, les Norvégiens ont régné pendant dix ans sur le petit monde des musiques extrêmes. En 2001 malgré cela, le groupe se sépare. Une tragédie vite oubliée grâce au comeback de ces véritables légendes quelques années plus tard. Depuis pourtant, les concerts d’Emperor restent relativement rares. Chacune de leurs performances est donc un véritable événement.
A l’été 2024, Emperor célèbre le trentième anniversaire de l’album album complètement culte In the Nightside Eclipse ! Est-ce qu’on a hâte de retrouver Ihsahn (chant) et Samoth (guitare) pour fêter ça avec eux sur la scène Temple du Hellfest ? Oh que oui !

🇩🇪 Emperor sind echte Avantgarde-Musiker, die mit jeder Menge Stil, aber auch Ehrgeiz, nicht nur ein neues Genre kreiert, sondern auch eine Legende geschaffen und den Grundstein für eine eigene Kunstform gelegt haben.
Die 1991 gegründete norwegische Band eroberte die Herzen der Black-Metal-Fans im Sturm und avancierte rasch zum Aushängeschild der gesamten Metal-Gemeinde. Die Erfinder des Symphonic Black Metal herrschten zehn Jahre lang über die kleine Welt der extremen Musik, bis sich die Band 2001 auflöste. Der Schmerz darüber war glücklicherweise nicht von Dauer, denn bereits wenige Jahre später feierten die Metal-Legenden ihr Comeback. Dennoch sind Konzerte von Emperor seither relativ selten, und jeder ihrer Auftritte ist ein echtes Ereignis.
Im Sommer 2024 begehen Emperor das 30-jährige Jubiläum der Erstveröffentlichung von „In the Nightside Eclipse“, einem absoluten Kultalbum! Die Fans können es kaum erwarten, Ihsahn (Gesang) und Samoth (Gitarre) auf der Temple Stage des Hellfests wiederzusehen und mit ihnen zu feiern!

Emperor shows the world of black metal how to age gracefully. Impressive set from one of the biggest bands in the genre.
yeah, doing everything right, they don't write new stuff that would only disappoint (cause expectations would be just too high), don't tour until they are burned out but instead play selected and INSANELY good gigs, I mean, this sounds better than from the albums...

@@euledj79 mmmh, what? It has almost all the stylistic elements of black metal (blast beats, fry harsh vocals, tremolo picking of parallel minor chords...). Oh yeah and they describe themselves as such on their website.
30 years of improving at their instruments, top notch gear, leaps in advancement of recording technology, and a little proper mixing and I’m finally hearing some subtleties to all these riffs that used to just be buried under the buzzsaw. this is such a fantastic performance from an amazing band
There's definitely been subtle changes and live flavors added over the years as well
I was just talking to a friend of mine about their mellow production in the past and how I always wanted it to be a bit more 'meatier'. And then we got this. Love it. ❤

Trym is insane. He makes it look like he is meditating while playing, so relaxed. What a legend
Trym Thorson(Kai Johnny Mosaker) for me one of the greatest drummer of all eras... Ihsahn one of the best black metal composers of all eras... The final result is simple, Emperor turns one of greatest bands from norway to eternity.
Samoth deserves a lot of praise too. I think Samoth is perfect with the way he compliments the rythm section with those masterfully crafted leads of Ihsahn. Really a duo unlike any other.

So a Strat can do this as well, if the sound is good determined-single coils or humbuckers, doesn't matter mainly💪🏻
I think it's a pale teal Aristides with Fishman Fluence pickups, actives that can have quite a lot of gain, very clear tone (also splittable to single coils). So yeah, not your average Tele, this has much more options and control. I doesn't sound to me like he's using the single coil sound, though indeed you could tweak it with gain and EQ to be like a humbuker, but why bother if you already have them on board?

Lots of black metal bands sound like each other…..no one sounds like emperor but emperor
There is a band called Vargrav that capture some of Emperor's essence. It is not a carbon copy of it though. Totally worth listening.

Emperor are astoundingly good, been a fan for 30 years - but whenever I see Ihsahn and Samoth live , I keep thinking Jonathan Davis and Jerry Cantrell formed a black metal side project band lol

Jorgen Munkeby on keyboard is the vocalist in the Norwegian Black Jazz band Shining.
He ruined last summer's Emperor live for me. All sorts of unnecessary goofiness and rockstar posturing. So glad I saw them in 2007 when shit was still cash

Dude. Big props to Munkeby on With Strength I Burn. When I saw them in Dallas Texas last year, his harmonizing was much more toned down.
It would seem HE is the one who found his Strength for this performance!! Fantastic. Made it sound a lot more like the Wacken 2006 performance.

Back in somewhere 1993-94, Emperor was the FIRST blackmetal band (of the second wave, "Scandinavian wave") I listened to...I bought a CD of. What a music, what a power, energy, horror and beauty! Now I am 55, still listening to this unique genre and seeking the bands pulling the (inteligent) limits further.

I've been still proud to be fan of mighty Emperor and the legend Trym as a drummer myself for 20 years. Those play instruments might understand what I say that finishing the concert with Ye Entrancenpium is a miracle and impossible thing as drummer🙏
