    Thank you for the video! This was very helpful and inspires me to pursue my own creative endeavors.
    In the beginning, you used designs from a 10x10 canvas. Why didn't you create the 12x12 canvas and use that to begin with instead of snapping and duplicating the layers?
    Thanks again!

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 года назад +2

      Hi! I’m so glad!
      You CAN simply begin with a 12 x 12 canvas. I had already drawn these patterns in a 10 x 10 because that’s the size I typically draw in, so I just went with it.
      (I also didn’t want my paper to be a perfect repeat tile because I only wanted to sell this as “paper” and not a pattern block, so using the 10 x 10 worked for me. I could easily offset the pattern a bit, so it wouldn’t repeat perfectly if someone used this square to try and upload it to sell it on products themselves. It avoids me having people buy then post my art onto print on demand websites like Spoonflower to sell it as their own. Maybe it’s overkill, but you have to protect your art! Does that make sense? 😜)

    1. What is the exact size in pixels for 12 by 12 inch digital paper??

    Please reply.
    Love the video

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  3 года назад +1

      Hi!
      1. Exact pixel size for 12 x 12 “ paper at 300 dpi (the absolute minimum I would recommend!) is 3600 x 3600 pixels.
      2. Etsy thumbnails look different on the desktop website and the Etsy app. That being said, I usually create my thumbnails at the screen size of my iPad (2732 x 2048 px) and make sure any important information fits within the central area for when Etsy crops the preview to a square (mobile app).
      I don’t think the actual size of the thumbnail matters as much as the aspect ratio 4:3. Like you don’t necessarily need to make your thumbnail as large as I do. I just do it that way out of convenience. I hope that makes sense.

    Hi.. do you save it to RGB or CMYK format? Or both? Because I found some people use it for digital planner, and some for printable for actual journal. Because both format kinda have a different color when display in certain situation. Thank you for your answer 🙏🙏🤗

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  3 года назад +1

      I save it as RGB. If people are printing at home this is the best option. If it’s something that’s going to be sent to a professional printer you’ll have to check their specs to see if they require CMYK. You could always include both for your customers if you’re concerned about how it will print! I just kind depends what it’s going to be used for, like you said!

    Awesome video, thanks so much for the tips! I hope you can answer my question please. Is there a particular reason your digital papers aren't in repeat and are there any disadvantages to having them in repeat?
    I ask because all my pattern designs are in seamless repeat and vectors by default (created in Affinity Designer). I create them as vectors so I can be flexible in what file format to export it, size/scale, editability and what it can be used for.
    I'd planned to sell my pattern bundles and make the files available for all applicable uses for customers who want digital papers, POD designs & Cricut/Silhouette users. Is this a bad idea and should I sell the bundles for them for different uses separately? Thanks 😊

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 года назад +2

      I think it's just personal preference. I purposely made mine not repeatable because I didn't want people to purchase my designs then turn around and post them for sale as their own on POD sites, etc. If you're creating patterns tiles to sell to customers for whatever use they wish - paper, POD, etc - then you could leave yours as is and make sure to put in the description that the pattern is a seamless repeat, which they can use for all that stuff!
      My suggestion, would be to make the price a little higher or you could even sell a commercial license as a separate listing if people want to use your designs in their own goods for sale. You just did all the hard work of creating the repeat pattern for them, which is time consuming, and you should compensate yourself for your valuable time!!! 😊Does that make sense?

    Can you explain why the images are 12x12, rather sized to 81/2x11?

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  Месяц назад +1

      @@vickigregory709 When I researched, I noticed most of the digital scrapbook paper that sells well on Etsy is 12 x 12”. My thinking was that people often like to make digital scrapbook albums that are square sized and get them printed on sites like Shutterfly, etc. If anyone want to print the paper at home, the excess will be cropped off when they choose 8 1/2 x 11 as the paper size on their printer. I thought it may be better to crop the paper down then try to scale up to make it fit a square.
      (It’s also a little easier (for me) to create a repeat pattern in a square tile vs. a rectangle!)

    Love your videos! You are very talented. I wonder if you could make a brick repeat pattern. I figured it out, but it was a brainteaser! There has got to be a better way. I used procreate on my iPad Pro. I staggered the bricks: the first row is in a line with a titch of space between the bricks, then the next row offset by 1/2 so the brick's left edge is lined up to the center of the brick above it. I hope that makes sense. Any help would be much appreciatedd. Thank you.

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 года назад

      Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy them! Yes you could make a brick repeat. It would be similar to a half drop repeat, but instead of offsetting the pattern tiles on the sides, you do top and bottom. It sounds like you’re doing it correctly from what you described! I have a playlist with pattern tutorials that may help (I have a half drop tutorial, but not brick), but it sounds like you’re on the right track!!! Maybe sure you have snapping and magnetics with the distance and velocity options cranked all the way in Procreate and that will help you snap your tiles to center and offset them perfectly. Hope this makes sense! 🥰
      I’ll grab you the link for the pattern playlist in case you need it. ❤️

      Do you mean papers you already own? You can right click / long press on one of them and choose “File Info”/ “Get Info”and look at the dimensions. It’s most likely displayed in pixels. If the file is 300 dpi (typical resolution) divide the dimension by 300 to get inches. Does that make sense?

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  3 года назад +1

      It depends on the size of the compressed file. If it’s over the file size limit for Etsy you won’t be able to upload it! (I think the limit is 20MB for Etsy.) In this case you’ll have to provide the files with an alternate method, such as a pdf. Hope this makes sense! 🙂

      @@nattsurfaren You can upload your compressed folder to an online file storage, such as Dropbox and share the link in the pdf. Technically someone could share the link with others unless you somehow lock it down or make it a one time access type of thing. You could always check to see what type of security features your particular file storage service offers! I hope your compressed file is below the max size, so you can simply upload it to Etsy. You can upload up to 3 files for digital products on Etsy. Maybe consider breaking your bundle into 3 smaller compressed files to get around all the issues you mentioned!

      @@TG-th6mv oh!!! Thank you for the timestamp. Ok so that is a separate document I would make. I basically create a scrapbook page template with my papers within Procreate. I would have a background sheet of paper, then a solid rectangle with a drop shadow that they could place their photo on top of and some other fun elements just like a scrapbook page
      would have. You can then export this as a Procreate doc by pressing “Procreate” in your share menu instead of jpg, png, etc. This preserves all layers and allows the user to open the document in Procreate and have all the layers set up for them just like yours. It becomes a template they can purchase from you. I thought this could be a cool way to help people quickly create digital scrapbook pages. :) Does this make sense?
