This sweeping exhibition showcases the amazing history of the Austrian Habsburg Emperors, who commissioned and collected households full of masterpieces by which to display their power. It focuses particularly on the three periods of their greatest flourishing.
The first relates the history of the Habsburgs from the dynasty’s origins in the 13th century until the 16th century. The central figure is Maximilian I, during whose reign the Habsburgs achieved world-power status. You’ll see how an international network of political and family relations aided in the amassing of unique collections of art.
Devoted to the Age of the Baroque, the second block explores the art, culture, and politics of the 17th and 18th centuries. During this period the House of Habsburg dies out in both Spanish and Austrian male lines, provoking considerable political complications and the loss of Spain. A female heiress, Maria Theresa, succeeded in establishing her right to rule as heir to the Austrian line, becoming the final ruler of the House of Habsburg. Visitors will discover the role of religion, art, and court festivities as instruments propagating the dynasty’s self‐image and claim to rule. Key figures include Leopold Wilhelm, Leopold I, Charles VI, and Maria Theresa.
The early 19th century saw the final demise of the Holy Roman Empire and the establishment of the hereditary Austrian Empire. With the growth of nationalism, the empire would be transformed into the dual monarchy of Austria‐Hungary. Key figures of this period are Francis II (I) and Franz Joseph. This section explores the long reign of Emperor Franz Joseph, the founding of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the creation of the multinational empire. This empire, characterized by a highly hierarchical social order, is represented by the lavish gowns of the imperial court. At the end of World War I in 1918, it dissolved into its component parts, bringing almost 600 years of Habsburg rule in Europe to an end. Развлечения
Regardless of how one may perceive the Habsburg dynasty’s legacy as a force for good or evil in the world, one cannot deny the absolute splendor and beauty created by the artists, sculptors, architects, and jewelers of their time. It is breathtaking to see in a video all of these priceless treasures on display in one place, and I can imagine it would be the experience of a lifetime to see it in person!!
and all of this power and art - to end such a bloodline through incessant inbreeding is a tragic but karmically fitting end.
@@zootdragon8246 the bloodline is still going on today, as are the habsburgs. They ceased to be rulers because of ethnic strife in their multinational empire, and being on the losing side of WW1.
Just because one of the spanish habsburg kings were inbred to the point of infertility doesn't mean they all were. That's just lazy anti-monarchical propaganda.
And to add to it, music, in all its forms and in all its glory!
The museam directers are insane. The Habsburgers is the biggest incest family. They even did so often they created a incest gen in their own family. They all got a Habsburg jaw, could not make children anymore, could barey eat, got epilepsy, etc. Most children died at young age because this.
And it was grandfather with grandchild, sister and brother, elder aunt with far younger first nephew, son with mother. This family is the best ecample in genetic classes. The whole 600 year branche can on a tiny sheet of paper so bad it was. Not telling all this is weird propaganda!
@@PaithanNL the Habsburg jaw was prominent in the family in the 16th to 17th century but begin to decline mostly because they stop inbreeding. Leopold 1 married his 3rd cousin Eleonor Magdalene and their children grew to be fine. His grandchildren grew to fine because their parent and grandparent were not closely related.
Was in Austria few years ago... visited a dozen palaces and museums.... Porcelain collection and religious objects were my favorite.
Schönbrunn palace and its horse carriage museum was beautiful...
Loved Vienna a lot...
Me too.
We took our son to Europe when he was 5 for the 1st time. Our visit to Vienna was far too short. The city was beautiful, people were so friendly. Schoenberg castle was so beautiful. I wish to visit Salzburg next because Sound of Music was and still my favorite childhood movie!
They forgot to mention that the Habsburgs also had a Spanish branch, through which they didn't only rule half of Europe, but also the colonies in the New World and in the Far East. The concept of "The Empire that the Sun never Sets On" was first designed for the Habsburg Empire. However, through poor political judgment and incessant inbreeding the empire fell fast.
+Rainer Vilumaa Inbreeding is actually healthy
+OhFortunae Yeah, no. Just no.
Lexi Vorce Yeah, uhm, just yeah. Read Anthony Ludovici the 'choice of mate'.
4th cousin marriages are the most healthy for the gene pool - the distance is farr enough to have no bad mutations and close enough to have no... too many bad mutations either.
+OhFortunae That man is wrong.
It was commonplace among the Habsburgs for an uncle to marry his niece, often decades his junior. That is wrong on so many levels...
Andre Reinaldo Godfrey. I really enjoyed this video. The Habsburgs were a monumental family. Good work.
Minnesota has a lot of Habsburg ties. The U of M was given the Austrian archives and Otto came here often. We have one of the highest Austrian populations in the country and that is why we were given the archives over Yale who wanted them.
How did Minnesota get so many Habsburg ties? What religion do they publicly say they are?
Minnesota has the largest number of Austrians in the US. I knew Zita von Habsburg personally and her son Otto and visited the former Empress in Switzerland in the 1980s.
Austrians and 99% Catholic and of course the Habsburgs were Catholic and considered the great defenders of the Faith.
When is the U of Minnesota going build its Somali Art Museum of a rock and a spear?
@@CoxJoxSox the Habsburg family were predominantly Catholic.
It was awfully nice of the Hapsburgs to lend their treasures and heirlooms for public display. We should send a thank you letter to Archduke Karl for his family's generosity.
The Spanish branch of The House of Habsburg was the most important in the European History and the Spaniards called it Casa de Austria.

Fascinating and beautiful presentation. I had no idea the Habsburgs had such a strong connection to Minnesota, a region of the country I associate more with Norway, Finland and Sweden.
i could not watch it without crying. it is so beautiful in so many ways - hope one day, the ancestors of this noble family will get back to our country and take back the throne that we can finally get rid of the Cabal and their international banking fraud.
They inbred themselves out of existence.
lololol true that - by the end of their dynasty the "royals" couldnt even close their own mouths or chew their own food, some were frail and infertile, the others had "bouts of insanity". yes please let them take their rightful places as rulers of your country. lolololol

It worked for quite awhile, longer than some rival dynasties.

The Austrias yielded power not by war but by marriage. They knew how to play the war of thrones through marriage it is fascinating, I'am obsessed with the Habsburgs. They ultimately lost the Chess game by their own sacrificial move which was through marriage within their own family. They let in a male heir from a powerful rival family and took a hold of their family but they lost their game through Charles the II in the Spanish branch.
It’s a dynasty of decadent people, full of incests. Uncle married with their niece.

Mike Anderson 2002 : You forgot Slovakia, Slovenia, Lombardia, South Tyrol, Tuscany, Modene and a few german and swiss small Rhenan principalities/counties (not to mention the usurpation of Luxembourg and the secession of The Netherlands)! But the original Habsburg Dynasty is extinct since Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, the last Habsburg, who maried Franz I of Lorraine/Lotharigen: their children and descendants to the present day are Habsburg-Lorraine to be precise!
Justin von Habsburg : The Austro-Hungarian Empire besides being very rich and multicultural was essencial for the political balance of Europe, acting as a bridge or a defending barrier (depending of the need) between the east and west european empires and also between the christian countries and the asian near eastern muslim territories! It's a shame what happened after WW I...
Roland Steinmassl If that cabal exists the Habsburgs are basically in the middle of it, even if they don't rule anymore. Just look at their involvement in the founding of the European Union.
Shocking how the most beautiful painting in the world by Velasquez was not shown.

Long live the Monarchy and Habsburg dynasty.
hab is from habicht, which in this case basically stands for the eagle of rome. burg is castle btw. according to hinduism, we live in the dark age, so called kali yuga. ages are also defined by the leaders, from gold-best to iron-worst. in kali yuga, buildings stack high and rulers belong to the lowest of the lowest. its not just that theyre incapable or just plain useless, theyre parasites and a huge burden for the people at least.
It seems there has never been a time when human beings failed to use propaganda to further themselves. Perhaps the cave drawings had a similar purposes - showing future generations how they dominated the land or mastered survival in those days, certainly with help from the spiritual world, i.e., the natural world imbued with spirits. That's my take on human history.
Propaganda is not a bad word, is just Latin for basically spreading or promoting. I believe the exact English word for it is "propagate" . It's strange that when modern ears hear that word, it's always negative because of the " propaganda minister " in the third Reich.
