      Dubas paid no dues. Shanny took him on, hired the best GM and coach to learn from then handed him the reigns. What did Dubas do? Ignored the obvious need for a 1st pairing D and went into FA and overpaid for a second line center. All this when Kadri was half the price and much more hard nosed.

    I'm not sure what Maple leafs fans don't understand here. And before you say you are from Buffalo what do you know I would reconsider. Buffalo fans know their sports. Regular season success means absolutely nothing. Sure, the Leafs have had great regular seasons under Dubas but playoff hockey is so much different than regular season hockey. Over an 82 game, 6 month schedule it's impossible to get your opponent's best game night in and night out. This is how the Leafs were able to get away with it with their talented roster. It is totally different in the playoffs. You will get your opponents best game EVERY game and this is where skill does you little good. You need players with both skill and grit to get through. Dubas was so attached to his core 4 and tried to insulate them with gritty players and that model doesn't work in the playoffs. Even I could have done a better job than Dubas. Ask yourself, how many gritty and talented players (Mathew Tkatchuk for example) does Toronto have on their roster?? I can't think of one. It's no surprise to me Toronto was a 1st round exit 3 of the last 4 seasons.

    @zackeryedwards4186 Год назад +1

    Never mind that Dubas is gone. Why was there no blood on the ice when the Leafs were down 2 and 3 nothing to Florida? What is this teams identity? Bring in a line that can raise hell at any given moment. They don’t need to fight. Just good hitting and energy. I don’t care if they score or not. This “big four” does not bring energy into the playoffs. Toronto is not an intimidating place to play hockey. Visiting teams constantly roll over the Leafs. Lines 3 and 4 should be full of bangers and the Leafs just don’t have that.

    He told Dubas to empty his office immediately and had Dubas escorted off the property, probably by cops.
    You don't think Dubas is still doing work for the Leafs until June 30 do you?
    Shanny then told Spezza to resign or he was being fired that day, too. Shanny didn't bother to tell you about this part though.
    Then Shanny held a presser to tell everyone that he didn't bother dealing with Dubas' agent, as Shanny was required to do, but, instead, Shanny drove to Ford Performance Center to deal with Dubas directly.
    Shanny then billed the Leafs for the gas money to drive to and from Ford Performance Center.

The Leafs drafted Auston, Mitch, Willy and had pieces like Rielly in place and only saw round two this year against a TB team that outplayed them and clearly were not bringing it cause they already had not one but two Cups to admire in the last few years - This as Crag Button stated, has been an epic failure.

Call it money, call it whatever you want, it was about how much $$$ is worth the family sacrifice. The agent did a crap job and Dubas should have spoken to Shanahan directly, not just an email. Amateur organization doing amateur things. Reilly said he couldn't believe the perks the players got. It's time to throw out the perks and make EVERY PLAYER earn it. Look at the Florida series. The coach was so badly out - couched it was farcical. Why is Keith still there? Look at Brindamour, Trotts, Bowman, etc. These great coaches are at the big show every year. WHY! It's because they are great coaches. The Big 4 players disappeared in round 2 because they weren't playing for anything but summer vacation.

Marner same, JT gone. Nylander is the face of the franchise. Front office will bring in older pedigree cup run experience. Shanny will revert back to a Dryden tested and true method of getting through the rounds.

As for Dubas he’s an arrogant & selfish individual that put together a cute NHL team that failed miserably in his nine years in Toronto. Shanahan has to take some of the blame and as for Toronto they are in a very dicey situation and the clock is running out.

    We all have an opinion on what is wrong or why can't the Leafs win more than they lose. At the end of the day, the Leafs are always fun to watch and they will continue to be fun to watch. Toronto is a great sports city regardless of the sport! Because it is, the media scrutinizes the sports team more than other cities. Toronto is a world-class city that wants world-class sports teams. That's fair. I always want to see Canadian sports teams do well. Especially Calgary and or Edmonton. Hockey is a great sport pretty much at all levels of play. There's always next year!
    Toronto sports fans keep your chins up! The Leafs did better than most of their rivals. Winning is tough at the professional level! That's probably why fans idolize winners so much!
