Nile talks about lab safety (Chemistry is Dangerous): • Chemistry is dangerous. - Наука
Nigel is a genius for freezing those taquitos so they'd last longer without going bad. 😂
Good one
He's a genius for calling them burritos
Wouldn’t want the mold to get moldy
if nile says "it doesnt smell that bad" you dont trust it because he has obliterated his nose
I just sat down to eat and thought "I'll watch a nice enjoyable NileRed video while I eat." Then 30 seconds later I see moldy taquitos. Thanks Nigel.
fucking same..
same...
Look at the hairs!
You ever see a sandwich so moldy, it looked from a distance like a pickle?
NileBlue content for sure.

I learned some time ago, when my fridge broke, that even household fridges can go surprisingly low. So what happened is that cold air was not getting pumped from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator. And it was working nonstop. In the end, refrigerator was at +10 C, but the freezer went down to -45 C.
Wow impressive
I had the exact same thing happen to mine, the fan simply got stuck on some of the paneling or a cable or something. It got so cold the back of the plastic drawer shattered.
the problem with it getting so cold is that even the refrigerant can start to stay in liquid form, which both the compressor constantly running and the refrigerant being liquid while it is supposed to be gas (called compressor floodback) can cause the compressor to fail prematurely
@@awesomestuff9715 that could explain why my fridge is louder and runs more frequently now. I've probably lost a lot of money on electricity bills. Thanks for that info
@@neoqueto yeah, in that case I would recommend looking into replacing your fridge sooner rather than later, especially if you live somewhere with high electricity costs. Ignoring the electricity costs, just the fact that the compressor could just fail at any moment is a reason to replace it, and honestly modern fridges (modern as in like, any fridge made in the last like 50 years or something idk) are just plastic garbage, especially when compared to commercial grade offerings. If you can afford it, I would recommend getting some commercial grade fridges, which should last longer, and be more serviceable... but at a hefty price tag
Nigel: "It doesn't smell that bad"
Hazmat suits on everyone, biohazard confirmed
Nigel: "What if I ate it?"
Reggie: "I dare you to"
Reggie, are you trying to put everyone there on unemployment by killing this man? 😂
The solvent smell of the mold you kept smelling was actually VOCs that all fungi produce to some extent when fruiting
This person molds.
"No I want that sushi". Video ends, cause he ran away to eat his sushi before nigel.
I was thinking “don’t freeze my sushi!😢”😂
"Cooking with Nile Red" is going to be a great series!

glad we get to see more of nilered's shenanigans
I wonder if you can freeze dry food, then turn it into a powder, then do chemistry with it. Like, what chemicals can you extract from sushi powder?
We need to go furþer wiþ þis.
How about freeze drying liquids like Coca Cola to make CC powder? Afterwards he can pour some in a glass of water and add CO2.

@@dubious_potat4587you were so close! it's þis, otherwise you're right! (old english followed different rules than icelandic, and ð was used in the middle or end of a word typically and þ was used for the start)
I read this as freeze a dead body then turn it into power
Isn't the freeze dryer supposed to suck away moisture too? If you bag your foos it won't be able to dry it right?
They were just testing the freezing and probably didn't want mold in the machine.
@@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 That's fair. Nigel wanted all the mold for himself
@@ChaosPootatoNigel is a mold fiend
I'm certain that weird noise is just the refrigerant expanding past the expansion valve. Don't worry about it.
Anyone else think it would be bad ass to hang out in his lab for a few days, just to watch him do stuff? ie slam things on tables, flip everything he holds, and science !
He seems like the kinda guy who'd just do safe but impressive science tricks while there are visitors around
These machines work by sublimation having your item in a plastic bag doesnt allow for the vapor deposition on the chamber walls. Whatever you're making in there be mindfull that smells and terpenes will end up in the ice and water.
Yeah. I was thinking that: “He, uh, does know the moisture needs a way to escape right?…”
He wasn't freezing that, he was just using it as a heat mass to check that he setup the freezer properly

Those mold spots are fingerprints from the assembler.
Nope it was made in C those are fingerprints from the Compiler;)
Sorry i couldn't help it:)
@@sanches2lol, i see what you do there.
Someone should make a compilation of very time Nigel says "So in theory..."
You gotta get the moisture out somehow. As long as they are in a zip lock bag I don't see that happening soon.
Nile GOLD!!!!! Just pop the grill in and make this stuff!!!!
Nile you mad man
Dear Nigel, you are a genius chemist.
Glad to see he's alive
Definitely have to leave shit in longer. I have a old GE upright freezer in my basement and at the max setting it goes down to -7F (-21.6C) and that freezer isn't designed for any sort freeze drying AFAIK.
nilecold
the mold solvent smell is real, i experienced this on a piece of moldy meat and it truly did not smell bad like rot, just a very strong chemical smell.
That bluish-green mold was Penicillium sp.
One day Nile will remember that he has literally no sense of smell 😂
Have you considered live streaming parts of your experiments?
How long till he trys to make penicillin from the mold?
You really shouldn't be sniffing that, you're breathing in spores.
I'd be interested to see if Nile could *do chemistry* and recover moldy foods to an edible state.
Thats a much better lab then most of the ones in my university in brasil
I would think, that you would have to not have in bag, so the moisture can escape 🤔
I've always been curious what that odor is; not sure if it's from a penicilium or what, but it seems to show up often when I have citrus, onions, etc. in the trash can.
Put it on the GC!
I was curious too. "mVOCs" reportedly include ethanol, terpenes, benzyl cyanide and things like octen-3-ol, 2-octen-1-ol, 2-methyl-isoborneol and geosmin.
What happens if you freeze-dry cryogenically frozen stuff?
freeze a freeze dryer next

That's what she said.
"Smells like solvents."
You need a second fridge my friend.
I dont know what it is, but when i first heard your shorts and videos i was really not all that interested. But then I saw a few shorts and videos where you were actually in them, showing your face and such... And I dunno I'm just immediately more interested. Putting a face to your voice just made it a lot easier to be interested.

how long those taquitos have been molding in there?
Now I'd like to see an ice cream sandwich put in, if this would make it like astronaut ice cream.

Who get's a Freeze Dryer and does not have a Ice-Cream Sandwich ready to test it?
Nigel is really hankering for that frozen sporitto.
Here are some suggestions:
Chopped fruits.
Thin sliced meats (about 3mm, 7mm at most, or up to 10mm if you don't plan on eating them all)
A petri dish of literally just water?
Hell, petri dishes of anything you'd think would be fun to freeze?
A model hand.
Something you despise?
How can they dry if they are in a bag?
The camera is so disgusted with the taco that it chose to focus in his cute face instead 😂
How does it dry when it's in a bag?
No shushi was harmed during the making of this video
maybe you could make instant coffee? it's pretty much just freeze dried coffee so it should be pretty easy
Yeah, I think by not let moisture to escape the zip bag you are kinda defeating the dryer porpuse
the vacuum wasn't on anyway, it was just a test of the freezing ability.
@@Sanity016 Of which, he didn't leave them in for a substantial time to freeze properly.
If that machine is a freeze dryer then you have to put the food without a polyurethane bag so it can dry its moisture.
I just found this channel today😂
What happens if you freeze dry something like vodka? Does it just suck out all the water or completely dry out everything?
It depends on how it handles a vacuum, freeze dryers work by getting things very cold, then pulling a strong enough vacuum that ice sublimates into vapor. I don't know for sure, but if I were to guess, ethanol would probably evaporate rapidly under similar vacuum/temperature conditions
Simply, no it wouldn't work.
3:34 12-48 hours, higher the moisture content, the more hours
Moldy taquitos. Yummy
I thought my mans would be like "haha lol let's freeze dry the mustard :3" NOT THE MOLDY TAQUITOS
my man was ready to sacrifice the sushii
That was an abrupt end.
The mold was so disgusting!
Why would you contaminate your new expensive machine by it?!?!?! 😂
They didn't. The plastic bag...
I was just watching the cross-contamination and I was like what is happening.
is it healthy to sniff the mould?
love inhaling those moldy spores. I heard it's great for you!
That's an absolutely heinous amount of mold for a taquito, that must've been in there for over a year lol
i'm pretty sure he tried a bite of those burritos off camera.
I avoid mold as if it were poison, but very few species are super bad.
That sound youre hearing is refrigerant boiling in the freezer dryer!
No no, I want that sushi😂
On the next episode, Nigel has food poisoning from old sushi.
rock hard
hi Nile and crew! love your videos, i really wanna get like an hour long video of you doing stoichiometry and just mixing left over or just CHEAP CHEAP chemical. have a good one
They prolly just did a speedrun to eat the last sushi
I chose the wrong video to sit down to my dinner and watch. 😢
Hey, I think you can try making instant coffee with the coffee you brew.
I feel like this was all just a ploy to convince Reggie that sushi was yours.
If only someone could Freeze-Dry Nigel's "Baby Juice" to create Clones... so every High School could have him as a Chem Teacher. :)
