I don't think my mother ever made sweet potato pie, but I love all things with sweet potatoes. I think I will try your recipe first, I like the creamier texture and especially the spice.
I grew up in a household that was from up north. We were so surprised that people made pie out of sweet potatoes. I now am a lover of sweet potato pie.
❤ I’ll try them at Thanksgiving we have a large Family gathering. I’m catching up on videos I’ve missed for awhile…do to the move, and building etc…. . They both look bea and Delicious 😋 ❤❤.
Sweet Potato Pie is delicious! It’s odd that my Mom never made this pie, especially because everyone that had ever eaten any of her baked pies and cakes ( And of course all 11 of her children as well) knew she made the best pies around (my favorite was her Lemon Meringue Pie) She baked some type of desserts for us to enjoy after dinner. I had never eaten a SPP until my Mother-in-law made them. Pumpkin Pie was my favorite until I ate the SPP.
Hi Tammy, Another point to make about microwaving sweet potatoes or any fruit or vegetable is that it will denature them. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes.
We grew up keeping sweet potatoes around to eat. We rub the bacon grease around the skins, wrap in foil and bake them. The skins would just fall off. We never really needed honey or brown sugar on them, maybe some butter if they were still hot, but we used to just eat one a day later cold.
Hi Tammy, I'm thinking that maybe your Granny used more sugar was because her sweet potatoes weren't sweet. I'm just guessing . Both pies look delicious. I have some sweet potatoes so I'm inspired, thank you❤
I was too impatient to make a good crust, but my grandmother would make a good crust and then roll out the left over pieces and bake those. As much as I loved sweets, I loved eating those pieces of hot crust with no sweetening or spice on it.
Sweet Potato pie is Southern and no other. We did it and if it don't taste right they made it wrong. lol any where you go, that sweet potato pie, the roots, can from us. God Blessed ya saying that I love the sweet potato so if its not quiet right. I like it anyway
Hey Tammy ! You didn't say how the deep-dish pie took to bake, about another 10 minutes ! An how different would the pie taste using brown sugar, have done it this way before ! 😂❤
Make an 8-inch pie shield from the empty aluminum pie plate, cut out the center, and I just wash and reuse. You must be going somewhere and sharing, or you love sweet potato pie.
I've been using half sugar, half splenda the last few years and it still turns out great. So if someone is diabetic that's a decent option. These are such pretty pies!
Hi Tammy, I agree with you about not cooking the sweet potato in the microwave. I tried it once and it came out dry and pretty tasteless. I won’t do that again!
Tammy, I have tried both! My family is split on both pies! Me and my kids love your pie the best it’s sweeter! But my Husband loves your Granny’s the best less sweet! However, if we all just had Granny’s we would add cool whip and eat it too! They are both that delicious! Everyone should buy your cookbooks or download for free, no excuses! 🤤😋🥰❤️✝️
Hello. Tammy. I'll be 80 next year and love to cook. I have just found your site. I really enjoyed how you presented your recipes, especially that you told why you did your steps. I microwaved a sweet potato recently and wondered why it was so stringy and not creamy. I look forward to your next recipe.
Looks good! I like making sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie without a crust. I've always been able to cut out a slice just fine, or sometimes I pour the mix into individual custard cups and bake. Yum. ☺️ Thanks for the tips on how to tell the pie is done.
Hi Tammy, both look delicious but I prefer your Granny’s because there’s no cinnamon in it. That’s the kind I grew up eating from my Grandmothers. I saw a recipe for peach cobbler with cinnamon & I could never imagine putting cinnamon in a peach cobbler nor would I do that. I know that a lot of people like cinnamon in almost everything but there are also a lot that don’t like it in everything. I have stopped buying any types of sweets because it seems that they think cinnamon should be in almost everything that is sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I know that it should be in some things but not everything. I’m going to try your Granny’s because it sounds like it would taste just like my grandmother’s and I’ve been looking for a recipe that would resemble hers for years & this looks like it will be like what I grew up eating. Also it’s delicious eaten cold from the refrigerator as I remember. Thank you so much for your recipes. I so enjoy watching you and your husband in the kitchen and outside. Keep up the good work and God bless you both.
Tammy I want that sweet potato pie but I don’t want to go buy or make a crust, can I just put that in a buttered aluminum pan? Should I add a bit of flour?
Oooh! Gotta try these! I’ve always loved sweet potatoes. And in a pie? Even better! I’ve recently been introduced to the Japanese purple sweet potatoes or yams. And I have to admit, they are my new favorite! The texture and flavor is amazing! You must try them if you haven’t already. And, if you ever make a video using those for a pie, that would be fun to watch! ❤😊
@@javetteyoungblood1833 Ooh! You’ve got to get some and try them! They are so delicious! And, they are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Plus, a pie made with these would have a beautiful purple color to it. 😁
👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 Mrs. Tammy! Gimme a slice of BOTH... Stand by...😂..ill letcha know🤭 which i like more.. Im almost embarrassed to say how much butter and sugar i put in mine.. Sometime i will sweeten my pies half sugar half sorghum molasses..😋
Maybe your granny used so much sugar in her pie because her potatoes weren’t very sweet. Maybe not. I’ve never made sweet potato pie but have used the recipe when making pumpkin pie. Was delicious. I can’t imagine not putting cinnamon in it. Have you ever made a Sugar Cream pie on your channel? I’m too tired to look. My air conditioning is out and the temps and humidity have been in the high 80s and 90s for 3 weeks. I’m not getting anything done, cook very little and sweat a lot. I need my ductwork swept. They are coming Monday to my pigsty of a house. So embarrassing. My little dog is suffering but my cats like it warm.
I used to love the sweet potato pie served at school, it was barely sweet and had no spice, I'm guessing it was like your granny's but less sugar, they also prepared it in sheet pan, like a big sheet pan.
I love sweet potato pie and bake then a few times a year. Question: I used to bake mine for the length of time you suggested. However once out of the oven they sunk a little which is normal, but a little later developed a big crack in the filing. Of course pie was good just not eye appealing. Several people said it was because I was baking them too long. So now I bake until outer part rises but center is just a little wiggly, which is usually around 45-50 minutes. People said center will continue to cook once out of oven, but will not develop any major cracks. I would like your ideas on this.
I have never had a sweet potato pie but I love sweet potatoes! Guess I need to give these a go…Thanks so much…but do they taste anything like a pumpkin pie? Because I DO NOT like pumpkin pie at all…😀
I made Granny’s after I had volume 2 cookbook n loved it. My entire family did also. My mom’s had no cinnamon but 1 c sugar and again cream to make 2 pies was the amount she used. I thought 3/4 cup and so I think it was a combo. Of both. When making for my family I usually do my mom’s but that 1 Christmas when I didn't everyone liked it. Oh and 6T butter. Salted of course. Lol

Nice. I've always made sweet potato casserole.
Wow, picture perfect pies!😍

I just said the same thing.

Butter makes the world better😂😂
I love sweet potato pie, but not too sweet. So I would probably love yours. And I'm still enjoying my air fryer. Use it everyday!🥰
Make an 8-inch pie shield from the empty aluminum pie plate, cut out the center, and I just wash and reuse. You must be going somewhere and sharing, or you love sweet potato pie.

That’s one of the best tips I’ve ever heard. Thanks.

My granddaughters favorite pie. We may have to learn how to do this for this coming Fall.
Yummy 😋 My Granny used pecans on the top if I remember correctly Blessings 🙏❤️
I like pumpkin over sweet potato pies, but my sister loves the sweet potato pie the best! They both look delicious!
I have made them both. Love them but prefer your recipe. I like the cinnamon.
Tammy I want that sweet potato pie but I don’t want to go buy or make a crust, can I just put that in a buttered aluminum pan? Should I add a bit of flour?
Just butter it

I always put brown sugar in my sweet potatoes; would that work the same in a pie? Have you ever added cream cheese? YUMMY!
I have one like a cheese cake on collardvalleycooks.com
